Hello everyone, it’s me again, Anh with the headband.

In the last seven weeks,

we’ve talked about family and friends, about whether we’re right for the job.
And today, let’s talk about sth more entertaining, which is my favourite TV
show.
To those knowing little about me, I have a big passion and love for food and
I’m always eager to learn new cooking reciples, that’s why I spend most of my
freetime watching Masterchef – the world’s most successful food format.
I. The show introduction:
1. A short description of the show’s genre:
- MasterChef is a competitive cooking show where contestants are instructed to
prepare meals within specific requirements under a time limit for evaluation by
a panel of judges, which can include celebrity chefs and other notable
personalities.
2. THREE most memorable things about the show:
- Firstly, it is now produced in more than 40 countries and airs in over 200
territories. And the show I’ve loved most so far is Masterchef US season 3. In
the show, apart from the talent of the judges and contestants, I was also amazed
at how Christine Ha – a blind woman fullfilled her dream of becoming the
Masterchef US 2010.
- Secondly, it is hosted by the world’s most prestigious food judges.
+ Graham Elliot with three times being nominated for a James Beard Award.
Or Gorden Ramsey who won seven Michelin stars.
They provide the beating heart of the format, and represent the best of the best
in culinary talent all over the world.
- Thirdly, is the SPIRIT OF MASTERCHEF. The message to its millions of
viewers across the world is that they too can transform their lives through food,
encouraging home cooks to become home chefs, and inspiring professional
chefs to innovate and excel.
II. Summary of one episode
-mystery box challenge. The contestants have to prepare, cook, and present one
incredible disk including all or some ingredient inside the box. After that, the
judges will give them comments and choose the best contestant with excellent
performance. This person will be given a special reward for the next challenge.
-elimination test. After the challenge is explained, judges evaluate all dishes
based on taste and visual appeal. The judges nominate the worst dishes for
elimination and criticize them before eliminating at least one contestant.
III. The episode’s entertainment values:
For a person loving cooking like me, watching people prepare food with great
technique and ɪnˈθjuː.zi.æz.əm is a good way to relax. Besides, there’s
sometimes a sprise change in the rule of the challenge. For example, in ep 17,
season 3, the contestants was able to choose their favourite ingredients for their
dish but it turned out that they had to exchange to their opponents.
IV. The episode’s language values
While watching the episode, I see some interesting collocations and phrases like
-I’m on the fence
-come up with that idea
-…., let alone…
-I’m gonna
After that, I will search for their meanings, pronunciation. I highly recommend
Cambridge dictionary and The free dictionary.
Also, I write down all these phrases on my note book and try to make sentences.
For example:
-be on the fence: not able to decide something
Ex: Tony’s still sitting on the fence, trying to decide which school he wants to
go to.
-come up with: to suggest or think of an idea or plan
Ex: They came up with a plan to make us more efficient.
