Mercerize Machine

Why Mercerize
Mercerizing is done after the dyeing. This process is used to equally increase the dyeing
brightness and strength of the fabric.

How to Mercerize:
In the caustic solution fabric is submerged for a while and then washed in the machine. Normally
solution will be between 17 to 30 boum. The following appliances are in the machine:
1. To keep the density of the caustic solutions fixed there is an automatic boum controller.
2. There is a tank for caustic solution equipped with roller.
3. There is an area for aeration with cylinder.
4. There are 8 washing water tanks with rollers. Each tank’s tempareture can be
controlled separately.
5. The penultimate tank has got appliances to control PH automatically by acetic acid.
6. There is hot drying cylinders through which fabrics come out dry.

Operating Procedure:
1. Make sure there is green signal in the machine.
2. Set all the padders’ air pressure correctly.
3. Fill all the washing chambers with water and set temperature between 95-98 degrees.
4. The tank which mixes acid does not add steam. The tank before the acid tank should
have less temperature.
5. Density of the caustic solutions shall be measured by boma meter.
6. Set the PH in the acid tanker.
7. Set people on the entry and exit side of the machine.
8. On the entry side checking the face and back of the fabric, keeping the face up, the joint
should be sewed in the batcher.

9. When everything is ready, start the machine slowly.

Check point:
1. Caustic solution density normally for cotton fabrics between 24-28 boma.
2. The temperature for washing tank between 95-98 degrees.
3. Fabric PH normally between 6-7.
4. Fabrics absorbency is kept between 3-4 CM.
5. After every 1000 meters sample should be cut to send to lab for test.
6. Keep checking for faults like line mark, spot, crease mark etc.

Safety:
1. If the body parts or worn clothing gets caught in rolling parts of the machine, press the
emergency button to stop the machine. If hurt or injured, see a doctor.
2. Wearing ornament like finger ring and bangle is prohibited.
3. Wearing loose fittings is prohibited.
4. If injured by hot part of the machine, apply appropriate oitment.
5. If injured of spilled with chemical, wash with plenty of water.
6. If mechanical parts are broken, call mechanical department.
7. If electrical problem observed, call electrical department.
8. Always wear rubber shoes.
9. Do not touch any rolling roller or padder when machine is on.
10. During chemical mixing and handling use appropriate PPEs.
11. When moving fabrics trolley and batcher be extra cautious.
12. All should be aware about first aid tips.

Neat and Clean:
1. Everyday at least once clean the steam roller and padders of the machine with fast
flowing water.
2. Clean the adjacent production area everyday or when necessary.
