B. READING
Read the following text.
I’m Emily and I live with my family in a lighthouse. It’s a normal
house but with the best view of the ocean. The sound of the waves
is the only thing we hear around.
My grandfather was the lighthouse keeper when my father was
a little boy, so my father has very fond memories of the lighthouse.
When he saw it for sale, he couldn’t resist and bought it! He
designed the project himself to keep the original building, but with a modern touch. He kept the vintage floor
and the tiny windows but built two extra rooms and installed a modern fireplace and solar panels.
He had lots of pictures of the lighthouse from when he was young. He framed his favourites and put
them on the walls. When he took my grandfather to see the lighthouse as our home, grandpa couldn’t
believe how beautiful it was. He was so happy to go back to the place where he spent his life. I love sitting
outside with him, listening to the ocean and listening to the amazing stories from when he was the
lighthouse keeper.

TESTS
UNIT 5: TEST A
Listening script
Part 1
Tom: Hey, Matt this is a very nice house.
Matt: Yes, it's comfortable and cosy. Minimalist, the way I like it.
Tom: Well, it is a bit small. Do you live alone?
Matt: No. Two months ago, Sam, my friend from university, asked me if he could live with me, so we live together now.
Tom: Oh, that’s nice. Do you get along?
Matt: Yes, but he is very disorganised and lazy, he never helps with the cleaning. Or the cooking. Or the laundry. Or… anything!
Tom: That must be annoying.
Matt: Yeah. He's a great person and we are good friends, but he is never motivated to do anything, not even study! I don’t get it! He has a
personal blog project, so he spends most of his time online.
Tom: Are you going to tell him he has to move out?
Matt: Well, no. I am going to ask him to sign a friendly contract with some commitments and I will insist on asking him to do some chores.
Hopefully, it will work!
Tom: Good luck on that!
Part 2
Tom: Hi Matthew, you look tired!
Mathew: Yes, I was up all night. I’m finishing a special project and I usually work when the ideas flow.
Tom: Well, I imagine being an architect is not easy. Is the project for someone special?
Mathew: Yes, it’s for myself! I bought an old house by the river and I want to start rebuilding it. But I have so many ideas and I know I can’t
carry them all out.
Tom: A house by the river must be fantastic! All the peace and quiet. Are you going to build a very modern house there? Mathew: No, I
want to keep the original layout and design but include a few modern features. If I can build my own home, it must reflect my personality.
Tom: Oh, I’m looking forward to seeing that project!
