⁃ The ancient word for rabbit is “mao” sounds like a cat’s meow sound,
and the Vietnamese word for cat is “meo”, which is also similar to mao

⁃ Kitchen God Day: ông công ông táo (December 23th)the three gods would.
Travel up to the heaven to report he information to the Jade Emperor nc pray for
prosperity in the coming year. People also believe that they will return to the
Earth in the New Year Eve to continue their duties for the rest for the year

⁃ Lucky money (li xi) kids are given red envelopes containing cash (压岁
钱)

⁃ Cay neu (like Christmas tree) extremely high bamboo tree planted
outside of the house, decorated with lucky red paper, li xi, bells. In addition to
the luck, red wards off lurking evil spirits, especially during the seven-day
absence of the Kitchen God

⁃ “Tat nien” includes the days leading to “giao thua”. Traditionally,


this time is reserved specifically for family reunions, cooking, and making
preparations for the upcoming celebrations

⁃ New Year’s Eve (giao thua), the most sacred time of the year of the
year. Midnight í the time for praying and lighting the incense in hope that
ancestors will accept the family invitation to enjoy the party. Being present at
your house at midnight is of the utmost important

⁃ New Year (tan nien) once midnight has struck, “tan nien” officially
kicks off. This period last for. 3-7 days, often 3 days. The first day is set for
visiting the nicer family, starting with the husband’s side. The second day is for
visiting the wife’s family. And the last day is time for showing respect to
teachers
