BIOGRAPHY
Nitin Gadkari was born on 27th May 1957 in a Maharashtrian family with roots in
agriculture the orange-city Nagpur.
Gadkari’s mother left a huge influence on his life.
He imbibed and always practiced his mother’s kind-hearted and philanthropic nature
of helping the needy even if it cut a hole in their modest resources.
By the mid-seventies the optimism of the early years of Independence was replaced
with disillusionment. Disenchantment was building up among various sections of the
society. The imposition of Emergency in 1975 only precipitated the angst of a
betrayed populace. The extent of excesses carried out by the government then,
shook Gadkari out of his comfort zone. As a student, he aggressively campaigned
against the Emergency.
Gadkari got involved very closely with the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS)
and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and took to social work in a big
way. He was particularly inspired by the RSS founder K. B. Hedgewar’s ideals of
Humanity and Nation Building.
Political belief
Antyodaya means uplifting of the weakest section of the society. As a follower of Dr
Deen Dayal Upadhyay’s Integral Humanism and trusteeship, Gadkari Ji has always
believed that politics is an instrument of socio-economic change.
A politicians duty is to serve the poor and underprivileged. These ideals have always
reflected in his governance models.
Under his leadership the Maharashtra BJP contributed in the Annadata Sukhi Bhava
Yojana of a Voluntary Organisation and reached out to the widows of those farmers
who have committed suicides.
Believing roads to be the gateway to prosperity of Mr. Gadkari gave top priority to
constructing roads to tackle the problem of tribal malnutrition in Melghat – Dharni belt
of Amaravati district and provided all- weather connectivity to the 91 remote villages
of the belt. Malnutrition has decreased drastically and socio-economic conditions of
the people elevated.
This activity was adopted in Vidarbha and other parts of Maharashtra and around
126.05 lakh cubic metre material was extracted, creating 12,605 TCM water storage
capacity in the state, saving about Rs 187 crore of the state government.

a toll basis, however, it was only after Gadkari took over as PWD Minister[31] that the
construction of this project was fast-tracked. Gadkari entrusted the work of the
construction of Mumbai-Pune expressway to MSRDC in March 1997 on Build-
Operate-Transfer basis with permission to collect toll for 30 years. The tender
notice[32] was published in leading newspapers all over India and also on the Internet.

tenders were received. After technical and financial evaluation, tenders were
accepted and work orders were given on 1 January 1998 to four contractors.
Thereafter tenders for widening of the Khandala and Lonavala-Khandala bypass
works were invited. The tenders were received on 24 August 1998 and orders were
