1.0 Preface/Outline of the Subject

The importance of Public Policy and Governance is derived from the crucial role it
plays in shaping almost every aspect of the modern world. All great civilizations in
the history were founded on the basis of effective public policy coupled with effective
governance principles. In the present times with the government launching a large
number of socio-economic programmes being implemented through diverse
channels, creates a space for public policy education rooted in theoretical reflections
and skills relevant to contemporary situation with competencies grounded in the
Indian reality taking full account of our nation’s vast geographical, cultural and socio-
economic diversity. The course is a novel initiative integrating the fields of public
policy and governance to enable the students to make pragmatic and fruitful
contributions to public institutions and to the overall public life. The course integrates
theoretical perspectives with practical skills touching a wide range of disciplines such
as law, economics and sociology along with relevant analysis. Public policy is best
described as the broad areas of government laws, court decisions, local ordinances
and regulations. The course is set to study public policies and governance with
emphasis on current initiative and equip them to face the emerging challenges in the
field.

2.0 Objectives of the Course

1. This paper tries to make basic understanding of fundamental concepts of Public


Policy and discipline of Policy Science.
2. The objective is to broadly examine Public Policy Analysis and its structure in
a comprehensive manner.
3. To understand the Public Policy interventions in India through different
policies of Government of India.
4. The objective is to find out the Public Policy dimensions in Indian Constitution
through the lenses of legal spectrum.
5. To evaluate and comprehend the current trends and issues of Governance in
India.

module coordinators in schedules weekly Class Discussions.
