Warm-Up
T: Good morning!

Ss: Good morning, teacher!

T: How are you doing today? How was your English exam?

Ss: Fine. The exam was easy.

T: That is good to hear. It means you studied well. Today, I want to start our lesson with
something from my childhood. It was a nightmare for me. It was a sound. Can you guess what it
was?

Ss: Hmmm … nope.

T: Alright, I will play it then. I hope you can guess it. But first, I want you to take a deep breath
three times because it is a really annoying noise, and I am still a bit afraid of it. Let’s take a deep
breath together: Inhale deeply, hold it, and let it out.

Ss: (Doing the breathing activity)

T: Now, we are ready for it. Close your eyes and listen carefully.

(The teacher plays the ‘’Vacuum Cleaner Sound’’ for ten seconds)

What was it?

S1: A robot?
T: It is kind of a robot but it has a specific name.
S2: I guess it was a vacuum cleaner sound.
T: That is right S2.
S1: What? But our vacuum cleaner does not sound like that!
T: Probable, you have a newer model. They do not sound like the old ones. You are lucky.
(The teacher shows an old vacuum cleaner and says such a monster.)
Lead-In
T: When do we hear this noise?

Ss: When we sleep. (Students laugh)

T: Hahaha, most likely. But seriously, when is this sound typically heard around our houses?

S3: During housework?

S4: While cleaning?

T: Exactly! In English, we also use another term for housework – ‘’chores’’. But it has a slightly
broader meaning. It's not only about tasks inside the house but also includes activities outside,
like gardening, going shopping… and it may also refer to duties we have at home. We are going
to discuss all of this today.
Remember, when you are a university student living far from your family, you'll have to do all
this by yourself, like the boy in the video.
(The teacher plays the video)
