world of science?
I am teacher Gratziella and I will guide
you in our journey in the world of
science.

b. prayer
But before we start our journey, let us
(All students remain standing and the
first ask for the guidance of the Lord.
Class Student will lead the prayer.)
Zyrine, kindly lead us a prayer.

Thank you Zyrine.

c. classroom Now class, it seems like all of you are

management tired. Everyone shakes your hands
upwards, now sidewards, now
downwards and if you see some (Students will pick up all the trash,

you’re your assignment in the center
aisle and past it forward.

A. ELICIT (Review) Do you still remember our topic last (Students will do what the teachers
discussion? instruction.)

What is the topic of our last

discussion?
Yes, teacher!
What are the different storm warning
signals again? It is about the different Public Storm
Warning Signals, ma'am.
Now, what are the effects of typhoons
on our environment?
Khim: It destroys farmlands, ma'am.
Very good! What else?

Very good class! Ronalyn: It causes flood, ma'am.

B. ENGAGE
It seems that you are already for our
new lesson but before that I want all of
you to observed this picture:

Yes, we are ready!

Based on the picture can you please

answer this following question:

• How often do you see this

moon phase in a month?
• Where does its light come
from?
• Is the moon always a circle in (Answers may vary)
shape? What other shapes of
the moon do you see at night?
• Why do you think the moon
changes its shapes?

Thank you for sharing your ideas, you

have lots of misconceptions and ideas
about the moon.
Our topic for today is very exciting
because it is all about the moon.

C. EXPLORE But before we proceed, let’s have a

short activity. Our activity is called,
deleMOONdo.
I will group you into three.
And in each group will received the
following materials:

• Globe
• Flashlight
• Small ball
• Black box
And here are the instructions:
1. Place the globe at the center of
the table.
2. Turn on the flashlight. Be sure
to focus its light on the globe.
3. Hold the small ball in between
the globe and the flashlight.
4. Turn the ball slowly around the
globe. DO NOT MOVE THE
FLASHLIGHT.
5. Observe what portion of the ball
reflects light.

And you will answer this following

question and you will explain it later.
Questions:
1. Observe what portion of the ball
reflects the light. Does it change
its shape? Please explain.
2. Does the ball change its shape?
Please explain.
3. On a piece of paper, draw the
lighted portion of the ball in the
different positions.
4. Compare your drawing with your
classmates.

D. EXPLAIN Let’s start from the group 1 and to be

follow by other groups share your
answers from your recent activity
Yes Teacher!
Very Good everyone let’s give (All groups will share and explain their
yourselves a very good clap! answers.)

What is moon?
An object that sees in night time.
Yes, we see it in night time but
Moon is a massive, heavy rock ball
that orbits a planet.
In the recent activity do you thinks
moon have its own light? None teacher

The moon doesn’t have its own light

source. It absorbs the light of the sun

and reflects it to us.
The Earth and the moon are 384,400
kilometers apart. The Earth revolves
around the moon. It completes one
full revolution every 27 days, 7
hours, and 43 minutes.
It orbits the Earth at a distance of
406,676 kilometers and has a diameter
of 3,476 kilometers, or around 14% of
the Earth's diameter. It is almost as
large as Mercury.
When it orbits around the Earth, the
moon rotates from west to east. The
shape of the moon appears to change
as it rotates and orbits around the
Earth. The various “shapes” of the
moon are referred to as phases.

So, class why do you think that the moon It depends on how light of sun reflects to
changes its appearance from time to the moon.
time?

Very good!

The shape of the moon that is illuminated

and visible to the observer is known as
the phases of the moon. New Moon,
Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing
Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous,
Last Quarter and Waning Crescent are
the eight lunar phases.

On this model you can see different

phases of the moon.

1. New Moon - In this phase, we cannot

see the moon between the sun and
the Earth. The sun shines on the side
of the moon, which is away from the
Earth.
2. Waxing crescent - In this phase, we
could see a tiny edge of the moonlight
one or two days after a new moon.
The moon appears to be growing, and
it is in the midst of a waxing phase,
wherein the moon started to take on a It because of the rotation of the earth
semicircular shape.
3. First quarter moon - In this phase,
we can see half of the moon's
illuminated side about a week after the

new moon.
4. Waxing gibbous - In this phase, more
than half of the moon is visible in the
sky.
5. Full Moon - In this phase, we can see
the full lighted side of the moon a
week after the first quarter moon when
the Earth is between the moon and
the sun throughout this phase. The full
moon appears in the sky as a perfect
circle.
6. Waning gibbous - In this phase, it
occurs when the lighted part of the
moon becomes smaller.
7. Last quarter moon - In this phase,
the half lighted part of the moon can
be seen again on the third week of the
month. The moon soon disappears.
Only then can it be replaced by
another new moon.
8. Waning crescent- In this phase,
most of the moon is visible in the sky
but decreasing every night time.

Did you understand class? Yes teacher!

Any question? Clarification? None!

E. ELABORATE
If none let’s have an activity
I will group you into 4 groups all you need
to do is follow the instruction that will be
given in each group and answers the
following question that written on the
activity sheet

Materials:
Cream o (biscuits) 8 pcs
Spoon (plastic)
Illustration board

Instruction:
1. Place the illustration board flat on a
table. Each member of the group will
be given two cream O biscuits and a
plastic spoon.
2. Use the plastic spoon to carefully
scrape off the cream filling from one
side of each biscuit, leaving a crescent
shape on each biscuit to represent the
different phases of the moon.
3. Arrange the cream O biscuits in a row
on the illustration board, with the
scraped side facing up.
4. Line them up in the order of the
phases of the moon, starting from full
moon to new moon and then back to
full moon.

Questions:
1. Did you enjoy the activity?
2. Using your improvised/finished
moon phases, have you seen on it
the different phases of the moon?
3. What are the different phases of
the moon? Explain it.

Thank you everyone good job! You discuss

and illustrate the different phases of the
moon.

Now let’s look back, what do you call to the

only satellite that rotates around the earth? The moon

That’s correct! And how many days do it

takes to completely go around the earth? It takes 27 days, 7 hours and 43 minutes
to completely go around the earth.
Very well said! Then what do you call to the
changes of the moonlight shape as the
moon revolves around the sun? It is called phases or lunar phases

F. EVALUATE A. Directions: Match the descriptions in

Column A with the Phases of the Moon in
