SECTION A (16 Marks)

explain the negative effects of this particular common practice.
5. (a) Distinguish between translocation and transpiration
(b) The mammalian heart is enclosed by a double layer of the membrane called pericardium.
Explain the following;-
(i) What makes this membrane prevent the heart from over-expanding when it is beating very
fast.
(ii) Why the inner part of the heart is lined with blood vessels? Explain by giving three points
6. If a pancreas as endocrine gland was by mistake removed during surgery from a patient,
describe six (06) problems which the patient would get.
7. (a) Various human activities trend to produce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, but the
amount of carbon dioxide in air tends to remain less or more constant. Explain how is this
possible?
(b) Why breast feeding is more important than bottle feeding
8. In six (06) points differentiate animal growth and plant growth.

9. Human stomach plays important roles in the food digestion process along the alimentary
canal. Explain four ways the stomach is adapted to performing its function.
10. It may not be obvious to everyone the amazing way our bodies are structured and working to
keep us healthy and free from diseases. Briefly explain this to people by informing them
three ways the components of the natural barriers and three ways the immune system
successfully keep us free from diseases.
11. Form four biology students went Temeke hospital to collect data for their project titled “why
increasing in number of drugs addicted people to our society”? As a medical doctor of
Temeke Hospital how would you respond to these students with six points?
