CHAPTER 1: ABOUT PG LAB

Personal Growth Lab (PG Lab) was conducted on 3rd, 4th,and 5th of November 2022 which was
an intensive learning experience which gave the students a opportunity of self-assessment and
new opportunities of growth. It equipped me mentally, emotionally and physically for living
and working with others and oriented us towards our future careers as professional managers
and leaders.
PG Lab provided us a safe environment which helped us in experimenting with our thoughts,
feelings and behavior in order to assess, identify and understand our areas of strengths and
the areas of improvement. The PG Lab provided us the opportunity of not only becoming
self aware but also learn about team dynamics. It helped us in boosting our confidence and
courage.

The pedagogy of PG Lab was unique blend of psychology, technology and design thinking
with several management exercises, behavioral simulations and games, feedback
instruments, theory input lectures and personal reflections, which helped us in introspection.

Also it sharpens insight into how people work as individuals and teams in real life, increased
self-awareness about one’s own behavior in a team and was well quoted as –

“UNTIL AND UNLESS ONE DOSEN’T FIND ANY MOTIVE AS INDIVIDUAL IN A

GROUP ACTIVITY HE/SHE CAN’T GIVE THERE 100% in it.“
6

CHAPTER 2: EXERCISES CONDUCTED IN PG LAB

ACTIVITY 2.1-Setting Up Personal Agenda

PURPOSE
• The purpose of setting up personal agenda was to establish a safe environment
between the students and help them to be self-aware about their advantages and
weaknesses.
• Agendas are an easy, inexpensive, and flexible instructional strategy that will benefit
both the instructor and students. It helped in achieving the objectives of the session.
• Also, it provides the plan in how they will be achieved. It served as a communication
tool between the faculty coordinators and the students. It was a simple and reliable
way for students to anticipate and prepare for the class session. It briefed the students
about the main purpose of organizing this PG Lab session.

OUTCOME/LEARNING

• Setting up personal agenda was the first activity of the Personal Growth Lab, which
was conducted by professor Dr. Pallavi Joshi Kapooria where she introduced students
with the importance of self- growth.
• Setting up personal agenda is the first thing of any new beginning as it shows the
right way to achieve our goals. We got to learn a lot through this activity as we
recognized ourselves what we are doing and what is our purpose.
• Also, we got to know about our strengths and weakness which cleared up our vision.
This activity was very helpful as we came to know ourselves in a better way, by
which we can improve our personality and skills for betterment of our future.
7

CHALLENGES

• There were few challenges which were faced during this activity like-at first it felt a
bit difficult to figure out things in correct way.
• It took quite good minutes to understand the proper criteria but within few minutes
everything was clear and up to the point.
• After listening to the session I realized that I usually don’t set a personal agenda in
my daily life, it made me realize the importance of setting personal agenda for my
goals and motives to be achieved in near future.
8

ACTIVITY 2.2: ICE BREAKING ACTIVITY

PURPOSE
• As the name suggests itself, the purpose of this activity was to break the ice i.e.
awkwardness between the students.
• We were instructed to introduce ourself to others as all the students were new there
and unknown to each other, so just to know each other certain groups were formed
with ten member each.
• These groups were formed randomly so that all the students can get a chance to
interact with new people.
• Each group was provided with fake currency notes varying from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 10
and were instructed to earn the earn the currency note of highest value through your
introduction by branding yourself.

OUTCOME/LEARNING
• Ice breaking activity helped me to overcome my hesitation in talking to new people
and it gave me an opportunity to interact with strangers, open up in front of others
and to understand different mindsets.
• Also, this activity taught us to adapt to the new surrounding so quickly and be
interactive and friendly to others even though you don’t know each other.
• We got to know about each other, and it even nurtured my thinking and speaking
skills as I had to give my introduction in a innovation and appealing way that
everyone finds it the best among the group.
• I even discovered some traits of leadership qualities in myself during this activity
while I was coordinating with everyone.
• I learned that you need knowing your good traits is important because only if you
value yourself then only can make others value you.
• Also, we learned so many different qualities and skills from different people which
helps in improving our skills and knowledge.
9

CHALLENGES

• Although Ice breaking activity was a fun and educational activity but at first it was a
little difficult to understand the allotment of currency notes accordingly.
• There were many challenges which were faced during this activity like- everyone was
new to each other, so understanding their mindset was difficult at first as it was to do
be done suddenly, they all have different thought process and different point of view
so getting through all of them was bit difficult at that time.
• The group had a combination of heterogenous people, so for extroverts it was not so
hard to cope up with the situation whereas for introverts it was hard to open up.
10

ACTIVITY 2.3: WORD MAKING ACTIVITY

PURPOSE

• The Purpose of word making activity was to help students in brainstorming in a group
as well as individually and it even helped in building spelling skills.
• The faculty provided us with a word and allowed us to choose which letters to use,
without having to rely on memory for the alphabet symbols, and directed us to make
as many words as possible form the given word.
• It also develops thinking ability and improve thought process.

OUTCOME/LEARNING

• We got to learn that individually we could reach to a certain extent of brainstorming

and from a less number of words whereas when we are working in group, we can
reach the extent of anything and the results can be better and more creative as
different brains were indulged in it to complete the task effectively and efficiently.
• This strategy builds holistic understanding of language by exploring how sounds form
words and words form ideas.
• This game-like elements made learning domain-specific vocabulary words fun and
easy.
• Also, it helped us to recognize that unity is strength because when one person
worked, it took more time but when everyone did it together it was quicker. It’s a
social bonding experience.
11

CHALLENGES

• While performing this activity, some members wrote a great number of words while

some wrote only a few words which brought the question of individual contribution
in the task.
12

ACTIVITY 2.4-PASSING THE BALL

PURPOSE

• Passing the ball is a team building activity, so the main purpose of this activity was to
build coordination among the team- members and to elucidate them about the
importance of team-work in any group task along with some leadership skills.
• This activity was a very entertaining team activity where we practiced working
together towards a common objective while following certain rules.

OUTCOME/LEARNING

• This activity was fun-loving and enjoyable but also delivered the salient of the
coordination in the team work.
• This shows how each and every member of the group or organization is important in
each task given to the group.
• This activity was ideal for exploring leadership, planning, strategic thinking,
communicating, decision making and creative thinking. These are all the basic traits
which help in living a successful life.
• And also, this activity taught us that how to get adjust in various situation easily, as
all the member have different mindset with different ideas so sometimes we have to
take back our idea and keep others.
• We even saw a glance of never giving up attitude in some people as few of them fell
still they got up within a second and continued the task without any second thought.

CHALLENGES

• The major challenge that took place while doing this activity was the main motive
itself of this activity i.e. coordination.
• Every member’s performance and efforts mattered and any mistake even by one
member could lead to loss for the whole team.
13

• If one member of the group was not available then whole team had to suffer as the
whole team would be disqualified.
• Some situations while performing the task, such as if mistake a member of a team
falls or by any other reason like untying of knots aur mismanagement among the
group members even caused the chances of conflict among the team members.

ACTIVITY 2.5: PSYCHOMETRIC ASSESSMENT-MBTI

14

PURPOSE

• The purpose of this activity was to make students aware about the terms self-
assessment and self- awareness.
• The main goal of an aptitude or psychometric assessment is to ensure that a candidate
inculcates the amount of skill and cognitive ability required to perform any kind of
job/role.
• The most common skill sets being measured by this test include numerical, verbal
and non-verbal reasoning skills. They're often used during the preliminary screening
stage, or as part of an assessment.

OUTCOME/LEARNING

• It helped us to assess about how much we know ourselves as we had to

answers some questions which required quite a lot thinking and we got to
know how would we react or tackle different situations in our life.
• Psychometric assessment helped us understanding the aspects of mental ability
and behavioral style that organizations are unable to gauge during
conversations and interviews.
• This activity was basically a self-assessment personality test where the got the
answers of unsaid questions about themselves like:-
 Which type of personality they carry z?

 Are the introvert or extrovert ?  And many more

CHALLENGES
• One challenges faced during psychometric assessments is that it was impacted by the
current state of mind that the respondent may be in. This impacts the overall
personality and behavior that an aspirant depicts in the assessment at that point of
time.
15

• Psychometric assessments can be effective too but typically depict the current state
and has a reference point of 1 to 3 years.
• Some students were not satisfied with their results as they were not honest while
giving the test.

MY RESULTS OF PERSONALITY TEST WERE

ACTIVITY 2.6: STORY CHAIN ACTIVITY

16

PURPOSE

OUTCOME/LEARNING

• While performing this activity your listening skills were judged as every member had
to catch the last sentence of the previous member and continue it with same theme on
the ongoing story in such a way the story makes sense.
• Chain story, in which each member added a different segment to a story, was a great
way to learn through cooperation.
• And also it helped us to improve communication skills and thought process. This
activity lead us to know the correct meaning of coordination and cooperation.

CHALLENGES

• Challenges faced during this activity was-we were unable to think accurate sentence
due to lack of time.
• All of us had stage fear as it was performed on stage, which lead to low confidence
and some of us got very nervous.
• The main problem faced was with the interlink of the sentences framed by different
members of the group as for some groups, the base of the story and the moral of the
story was sometimes not at all connected to each other.

ACTIVITY 2.7-HULA LOOP ACTIVITY

17

PURPOSE
• Motive of this activity was to shape up coordination among the team members and to
elucidate them about the importance of team-work in any group task.
• This activity provided us an opportunity to build coordination, teamwork and
leadership skills, learn how to be quick-witted and tackle situation in a good way by
performing the task in a fun and entertaining manner.

OUTCOME/LEARNING

• This activity was ideal for learning and improvising our strategic and creative
thinking,
• It helped us to enhance all the basic traits necessary to achieve your goals like
communicating, decision making, planning, coordination, strategic management etc.
• And also this activity taught us that how to adjust according to others in some matters
and accept their thinking and ideas.
• We even realized the importance for motivation and while performing all the
members were motivating each other which helped us to perform the task efficiently
and be more energetic.
• We understood the essence of individual efforts and group efforts, both has their own
value and importance.

CHALLENGES

• The challenge of this activity was the fear of breaking of hola loop as one mis-
judgement or breaking of the hola loop could disqualify the whole team.
• Second major challenge was timing. Completing the task was important, but
completing the task before the other competing team created a little amount of
pressure among the students.
• All the members had different mindset, different strategy so few times
misunderstandings happened. as all the member have different mindset with different
ideas so sometimes we have to take back our idea and give equal importance to others
thinking.
18

• In some groups the hola loop broke in the middle of the activity and they even started
blaming each other because of their poor performance.
19

ACTIVITY 2.8: JOHARI WINDOW

PURPOSE
• This model was based on two ideas- analyzing oneself by being true to yourself and
learning about what your personality portray to others form their feedback.
• The Johari Window is a model used to help people improvise and understand their
relationships both with themselves, and with others.
• As such, it's a useful technique for improving an individual's self-awareness and
development in group situations. It also aids two-way communication with the group.

OUTCOME/LEARNING
• A Johari is represented as a common window divided into four segments. Two of
these segments represents self and the other two parts represents the part unknown to
self but known to others.
• The important idea behind the Johari Window is that it can help us better understand
more about ourselves, which ultimately creates another level of self-awareness.
• Its helps us in knowing about others perspective and acknowledge their feedback and
accepting it.

CHALLENGES
• There were few challenges which were faced during this activity- honestly,
manipulation,
• Some things are perhaps better not communicated with others. People may pass on the
information they received, further than you desire or use it negatively.
• Some people have a very open and accepting approach to feedback; some do not
which lead to disappoint among the students.

ACTIVITY 2.9: BALLOON PYRAMID ACTIVITY

PURPOSE

• Balloon Pyramid is a team building activity, so the main purpose of this activity was
to inculcate students about creative thinking and team work in a fun way.
• This was an entertaining as well as educational activity where we practiced working
together towards a common goal while following certain rules.
• Time management also played an important role in this activity.

OUTCOME/LEARNING

• Here, every group member used their creativity and made a pyramid put of balloons
given.
• Time management, distribution of task, and helping others in their allotted work were
some important trails we learned while assembling the balloons.
• The time limit and seeing others doing better degraded our performance as it created
a little pressure on all the members which lead to a little chaos.
• We were not able to make a proper baseline for the pyramid as the balloons were
bursting randomly, disfiguring the sequence and shape of pyramid.
• During the last 2-3 minutes everyone was very efficiently but due to time pressure we
were not sticking the balloons in a proper way because of which we couldn’t form the
right shape despite of putting a lot of efforts while performing this activity.

CHALLENGES
• Our pyramid fell down few times and also we left with very few balloon till last but
all after we played smartly and dealt with the situation.
• One major challenge faced during the execution of this activity was proper
connection between the imagination of the product design and actual product.
• Each and every member of group was trying to find different ways to perform the
task in short time which was getting chaotic.
22

• Members were unable to decide and accept any one idea of performing the task and
were trying to complete the task in a hurry even though they were making a
complete mess.
• Although it was a very challenging task for all of us with so many learnings.
23

ACTIVITY 2.10: LEARN BY FUN (GROUP ACTIVITY)

PURPOSE

• Providing your team with fun activities to do at work contributes to a happier

experience. Team-building activities are not only a fun break from work.
• They also boost our personality and bring out creativity, collaboration, and
competition. They also help to improve communication skills. One great way to build
a strong culture is to build trust among team members and leaders at all levels.

OUTCOME/LEARNING
• Every group was instructed to give presentation on the topic given on the first day which
was supposed to be prepared within 2 days.
• Our group was allotted the topic Disney Movie And we presented a skit on this topic
by convey a small message on deforestation.
• This group activity helped us to learn enormous and fascinating variety of strategies,
decision making skills, stage presentation and grow individually.
• It helps to explore how perceptions are presented, how meaning comes to be shared
between individuals and groups and how organizational strategies are developed to
account for the wide range of individual thinking and learning styles.

CHALLENGES
• In starting all the students had a very casual approach but later everyone took the
presentation seriously and involved themselves in every way possible.
• Time and energy that group work consumes that individual work does not, including
the time it takes to coordinate schedules, arrange meetings, meet, correspond, make
decisions collectively, integrate the contributions of group members
24

CHAPTER 3: SUGGESTIONS AND CONCLUSIONS

“It is never too late to be who you might have been”. Personal Growth Lab was educational,
delightful and taught a lot of many things. Personal development contributes to one’s career
growth. Developing oneself is a way of life and is unending in itself. As one develops in
career, lifelong learning should be restricted not only to one's work, but also a balanced
approach to the growth of each area of one's cultural, social, intellectual and professional life.
Science has also proved that we learn best through practice and training as human beings.

As a individual I would be delighted to be part of this kind of activities held by the campus. I
personally found many changes in my personality just within these 3 days and found myself
more confident and interactive. I even realized that I started to convert from introvert to
extrovert.

Personal development is a continuous process that only ends when life ends. To improve your
living conditions as well as your mental, physical and social health, you need to continually seek
upward progression.

In this 3days session plans were achieved by improving the performance of students,
developing their capabilities and enhancing their professional skills.

students and develop their abilities and professional skills.

It was a great experience at PG Lab, got to learn so many new things. This entire 3days
workshop going to contribute a lot in my entire life. It helped me to know myself better, what
I am. And by this 3days workshop I got to interact with so many new people it was lovely
