MODULE OVERVIEW
The production of vegetables cost a high value in terms of providing health benefits, providing a
job opportunity for a willing to be a farmer and how it will be create a high income.

IMPORTANCE OF VEGETABLES
Vegetables provides health benefits and people who eat more vegetables as part of an
overall healthy diet are likely to have a reduced risk of some chronic disease not only for the
health but also to create job opportunity for the farmer and to generate income revenue for the
economy.

LESSON OBJECTIVES
At the end of this lesson, the participants should be able to understand the concept of
creating jobs in vegetable production.

LESSON PROPER
I. CREATE JOBS
Farmers may gain a business opportunity in vegetable production through selling
vegetables. When manage perfectly, it is a best business idea since it has a low in investment but
high in revenue. Some people who own an organic cultivation farm tends to be a vegetable
distributer firm open to retailers.

Talking about job opportunities, in some areas there are a lot of people who are
unemployed due to global pandemic and won’t take the job of agriculture. The table below
shows the summary statistics of unemployed person dated from 2019-2020 respectively.

The increasing number of unemployment is also the effect of the global pandemic that
affects mainly the agricultural sector in dealing with selling the agricultural productions. On the
other side, business agricultural farms tend to lay a hand to those in need of job so that the
agricultural industry still functional.
II. ALLEVIATE MALNUTRITION
It is a typical health issue in our country when talking about malnutrition. It refers to
deficiencies or excesses in nutrient intake, imbalance of essential nutrients or impaired nutrient
utilization. The double burden of malnutrition consists of both under nutrition and overweight
and obesity, as well as diet-related non communicable diseases.

The link between nutrition and agriculture in the Philippines has focused on leveraging
agriculture to improve nutrition. The programs that had been initiated by the government,
conceptualized and implemented before the elements of a nutrition-sensitive agriculture
framework were identified.
Different programs were implemented to address food production and the nutritional needs
of individuals, families, and communities only with reference to nutrition security.

III GENERATING HIGH INCOME


Farming is where the money is. This may be hard t believe in a country where farmers are
mostly old and poor. Based on 2017 survey of the Department of Agriculture (DA), the average
age of farmers in the Philippines is 60 years old and their average income is around P100,000 a
year according to latest Family Income and Expenditure Survey, or just over P8,000 a month,
which is below the poverty line.

Farmers have to contend the rain and floods, then drought, loans they can hardly pay
because of these seasonal trials, as well as low market prices for their produce. It’s a hard life
and no wonder farmers’ kids do not want to become farmers themselves and dream of other
careers.
Aside from this, selling the vegetable production with a high quality has a higher value in the
market. So it is very important to consider the health of the vegetable and also its site plantation
with a good soil and water irrigation.
