New Information
Based on my research Pica is a medical condition where people tend to have
craving for non-nutritive substances that may have metallic elements to them. Along with that
the consumption of these substances helps them feel more relived and relaxed. According to
Mosley (2018), It acted as a way to purge pent up sadness and anxiety. These ingestions
could be rely weird and unusual for example, feces, chalks, cigarette, etc. These
consumptions could be really treating for the consumers and thus their medical condition
needs to be closely monitored. However according to some resources Pica is considered to be
a result of a mineral deficiency whereas some resources state that the deficiency is caused by
these consumptions.
Treatment
According to the articles, the videos and The Bold and Beautiful (2016)
anyone can develop this disorder however mainly young children and pregnant women are
non to have appetite for these unusual substances. People with other mental disorders might
develop this disease too.
The articles and the videos also included several solutions. These include either going to the
best physician and getting a cure for the disease, to prevent deuteration of health or to try to
resist these cravings. Moreover, it is important to keep a close eye on the children to make
sure they are not consuming any non-nutritive substances. Parents and family members both
need to help these consumers to get over these cravings and appetite. It is also important to
look up to a doctor to help during these situations.
Usefulness and my learning from the articles
Discussion on Disorders 3
Yes! I believe Pica is a very significant disease and almost anyone could be
suffering from it. If we are interacting with world and talking to people it is important to
know that we might be meeting people or children who are facing Pica.. As given in the
article by Karla (2018) it would help me to understand my clients or patients in a much better
ways.I definitely got to learn a lot from the sites I checked for example I got to know how
digestion of not addible substances could be dangerous for patients with pica.I read the article
by Mosley on NEDA and I intend to apply it to my future work by having a better
understanding about how to deal with people with disorders.
