            Spreadsheet Package
It is an application package that is used for mathematical, accounting and statistical problems.
It consists of rows and columns where data can be entered, manipulated then retrieved for
graphical illustrations or mathematical analysis. Also it can be defined as a matrix of rows and
columns used for mathematical and accounting calculations and numerical analysis

A spreadsheet is an interactive computer application program for organization, analysis and
storage of data in tabular form.
A worksheet is used to store, manipulate, and display data.
An Excel worksheet is a single spreadsheet that contains cells organized by rows and columns.
A worksheet begins with row number one and column A. Each cell can contain a number, text or
  formula.
                                                                                        JSS Three

   CALCULATIONS IN WORKSHEET
One quick and easy way to add values in Excel is to
use AutoSum. Just select an empty cell directly
below a column of data. Then on the Formula tab,
click AutoSum > Sum. Excel will automatically
sense the range to be summed. (AutoSum can also
work horizontally if you select an empty cell to the
right of the cells to be summed.)
AutoSum creates the formula for you, so that you
don't have to do the typing.
Calculate the average of numbers in a contiguous row or column
   1. Click a cell below or to the right of the numbers for which you want to find the average.
   2. On the Home tab, in the Editing group, click the arrow next to AutoSum , click Average,
   and then press ENTER.
   ADDITION
Adding and subtracting in Excel is easy; you just have to create a simple formula to do it. Just
remember that all formulas in Excel begin with an equal sign (=), and you can use the formula bar
   to create them.
SUBRACTIONS
Subtract two or more numbers in a cell
1. Click any blank cell, and then type an equal sign (=) to start a formula.
2. After the equal sign, type a few numbers that are separated by a minus sign (-).
For example, 50-10-5-3.
3. Press RETURN .
If you use the example numbers, the result is 32.
Subtract numbers using cell references
A cell reference combines the column letter and row number, such as A1 or F345. When you use
cell references in a formula instead of the cell value, you can change the value without having to
change the formula.
1. Type a number in cells C1 and D1.
For example, a 5 and a 3.
2. In cell E1, type an equal sign (=) to start the formula.
3. After the equal sign, type C1-D1.
4. Press RETURN .
If you used the example numbers, the result is 2.

MULTIPLICATION
Suppose you want to multiply a column of numbers by the same number in another cell. The trick
to multiplying a column of numbers by one number is adding $ symbols to that number's cell
address in the formula before copying the formula.
In our example table below, we want to multiply all the numbers in column A by the number 3 in
cell C2. The formula =A2*C2 will get the correct result (4500) in cell B2. But copying the
formula down column B won’t work, because the cell reference C2 changes to C3, C4, and so on.
Because there’s no data in those cells, the result in cells B3 through B6 will all be zero.
To multiply all the numbers in column A by cell C2, add $ symbols to the cell reference like
this: $C$2, which you can see in the example below.
Using $ symbols tells Excel that the reference to C2 is “absolute,” so when you copy the formula
to another cell, the reference will always be to cell C2. To create the formula:
1. In cell B2, type an equal (=) sign.
2. Click cell A2 to enter the cell in the formula.
3. Enter an asterisk (*).
4. Click cell C2 to enter the cell in the formula.
5. Now type a $ symbol in front of C, and a $ symbol in front of 2: $C$2.
6. Press Enter.
Tip: Instead of typing the $ symbol, you can place the insertion point either before or after the
cell reference that you want to make “absolute,” and press the F4 key, which adds the $ symbols.
Now we’ll step back a bit to see an easy way to copy the formula down the column after you
press Enter in cell B2.
1. Select cell B2.
2. Double-click the small green square in the lower-right corner of the cell.
The formula automatically copies down through cell B6.
                                                                                     JSS Three
CTAN Curriculum Training and Technical Committee
And with the formula copied, column B returns the correct answers.

How to divide a cell in Excel
To divide two cells in Excel, you use the divide symbol exactly like shown in the above
examples, but supply cell references instead of numbers.
For example:
       To divide cell A2 by 5: =A2/5
To divide cell A2 by cell B2: =A2/B2
To divide multiple cells successively, type cell references separated by the division
symbol. For example, to divide the number in A2 by the number in B2, and then divide the result
by the number in C2, use this formula: =A2/B2/C2

         Spreadsheet Package
It is an application package that is used for mathematical, accounting and statistical problems.
It consists of rows and columns where data can be entered, manipulated then retrieved for
graphical illustrations or mathematical analysis. Also it can be defined as a matrix of rows and
columns used for mathematical and accounting calculations and numerical analysis
         Examples
Lotus 1-2-3 Ms Excel SuperCalc GS Calc Easy Calc

Column: A Column is a vertical line of cells in a worksheet usually identified by letters across
the top of the sheet. There are about 16,384 columns in Excel 2007.
Cell: A Cell is the intersection of a row and a column. The highlighted rectangle on the cell is
the cursor but is known as ‘cell pointer’ which enable users to move around the sheet. They
can be identified by the combination of column header (e.g ‘A’) and the row header (e.g ‘1’)
   to give cell
Active Cell: The active cell is the cell that contains the cell pointer, while the active worksheet
is the worksheet where the cell pointer is currently located.
Worksheet: The worksheet (synonymous to page) is the working area of the package where
entering of data and calculations are handled. It consists of rows, columns, cells and a cell
pointer where data are actually entered and manipulated.
Workbook: It is the collection of worksheets. Each workbook contains many work sheets just
like a normal single book with a number of pages
   Types of Data/Cell Entries
Three types of items can be entered into a cell
        i. Label
     ii. Raw data
    iii. Formula
Label: It is a general name for a range of cell in a worksheet e.g. Name, Gender, Description
   etc.
Raw Data: It is an actual value or alphabetic value for an item e.g Adeola, Female, 1070
Formula: It is a value obtained by the use of specific formula. It is started with “=”
