INTRODUCTION

when we look around there are so many things laying around like-
newspapers, cardboard box, containers, plastic bottles, old utensils etc.
which we think are of no use, but when we put our creative mind into work,
we can add aesthetics to an inexpensive and recyclable material by making it
more usable and pleasing by turning a scrap into a functional product.
when we put our creative mind into work, we can look for possibilities
regarding how we can make " best out of waste" or how we can reuse a thing
again for better environment conditions. for making a product usable again
there are so many processes we can opt for like: up cycling, recycling, re
purpose, DIY and so on. all of these process acts as a creative brainstorming
to our mind through which we can explore our astute more with challenging
and limited resources. it also makes us appreciate our amenity more.
when we reuse or up-cycle any product or material we get to know about the
importance of aesthetics and design thinking.
up cycling is the process of reusing or rebuild old and unwanted products and
materials into new usable products of finer quality. the other name of up
cycling is creative reuse. we can reuse waste material in many ways by
adopting any technique of our own choice. instead of throwing away things
we can reuse them for different purpose, reusing things make us think how
differently one thing can be used and it will also increase a product's
durability and also makes us aware of our contribution and consideration
towards our planet regarding Les-sing the pollution by using our resources
substantially.

BENEFITS OF UPCYCLING
 Preserves our limited resources.
 Preserves the environment.
 Reduce the cost of production.
 Instigates our creativity and novelty.
 Minimal use of natural resources.
EXAMPLES OF UPCYCLING

 Wine bottle candle chandelier

 Book lamp with Burlap shade.
 Shark Art.
 Gorgeous Ring made from Skateboards.

In this picture we can have a look at various ways in which upcycling has
been done by artists in exhibition around the world.
Chandelier made from empty wine bottles, A lamp made out of books,
Shark art made from recycled fence wood and scrapped plastic.

USE OF UPCYCLING IN TODAY’S WORLD

When people talk about “designing for future” many people think about
future of design is all about technology, production method and so on. But
without sustainability it is impossible. When we make and educate our self-
aware regarding the importance of upcycling and reusing which is often
being ignored by most of us, but it should be heard and headed and not
overlooked and ignored. Many great designers have taken initiatives by
upcycling everyday products and creating them into art. Through such
inaugural they gave a powerful message to the world of design that “designs
are not just meant to be visually attractive but also environmentally
responsible and sustainable”.
BRAINSTORMING

Brainstorming helped me a lot in improving my critical thinking and

problem-solving skills. It helped me to gather and include different
perspectives and improving my ability to think outside the box. It also helped
me to find conclusions for specific problem by gathering verities of idea
around specific domain of interest. Brainstorming is an extremely crucial step
before finalizing any concept it helps you to modify your choices and to
iterate more for better outcome, in this step I’ve looked for availability of
material and different things from which I can make something useful for my
project and then start to draw all the ideas and techniques which can be used
with the shortlisted material.
In this stage I’ve came across loads of scraps like newspaper, canvas, wire,
paint bucket, rope and plastic bottles which were of no use. So, I thought to
run my mind around these materials and started the brainstorming session.

SELECTED MATERIAL:

 Plastic bottles
 Wire
 Paint bucket lid
 Rope

REASON FOR SELECTING THE MATERIAL:

In our project brief we have to select a material which was available with us
at our home and have to create something useful out of it. When I looked
around, I found some plastic bottles, paint bucket and a rope. So, I thought to
make something useful out of it. We find plastic bottles everywhere and Its
not good for the environment too. Instead of throwing them and polluting the
environment. We can reuse it by making something functional and usable.
Also, with such reuse of waste things we are taking steps closer to substantial
use of our limited resources and reduction of pollution or wastage by saving
energy, reducing greenhouse gas emission, and keeping landfills space free
for other materials that can’t be recycled.
SELECTED CONCEPT:
DIY Wreath
A wreath is a collection of blossoms, leaves, natural products, twigs, or
different materials that is built to shape a ring. In English-talking nations,
wreaths are utilized ordinarily as family adornments, most generally as an
Advent and Christmas beautification.
The roundabout state of the wreath, without a start or end point, additionally
represented everlasting life. The tones red, green, white or purple were
regularly utilized in wreaths to address the blood, life, bliss, penance or
absolution in Jesus. Customarily, evergreens have been utilized to make
Christmas wreaths.
TECHNIQUE USED:

I have used plastic bottles to make flowers by the help of candle for molding
it.

DOCUMENTATION AND PROGRESS OF CONCEPTS:

In these pictures flower petals were drawn out of plastic bottles and then
molded using a candle.
And then they were arranged in the form of a rose.

In the above pictures ring is excluded from paint bucket lid and then the rope
was coiled around it in order to exaggerate the look.
Generation of more layout ideas as a part of form generation with the help of
placement. This helped me in knowing which form and elements can make
the base more stable so I ended up removing the wheels around.
3D MODEL OF CONCEPT :

3d model generated in Autodesk fusion 360.

Outcome:
PRODUCT USAGE:

A Wreath is used for hanging on the door. By hanging a wreath on the door,
Christians welcomed the spirit of Christmas. For the families who hang
these wreaths, they are implying that their loved one's soul lives on.
HOW USED TECHNIQUE MAY HELP IN FUTURE

The technique I have used while making this product is completely

handmade. Handmade goods can promote environment’s sustainability, can
promote employment and help many communities to start their own local
independent business. Through such crafts people value the creative spirit in
others.

People can engage themselves in such activities that require no use of

expensive material and can think of various ways to expand their creativity
and instead of looking for opportunities they can create few for themself even
in this tough time and pandemic.

MY LEARNING FROM THE PROJECT:

This project helped me to explore various way in which I can put my creative
thinking to work and how we can make the most from the things which other
people consider to be non-usable. When we push our self a little by taking
such projects as challenge it brings out the best of our work and allow us to
explore our innovation a little more. Even during this tough time of pandemic
this project engaged me a lot by creating a room to express and play with my
creativity with limited resources and objectivity in mind.
