Joevia:Cluttered with research papers and medical journals. Dr. Rose Capeding, is in her pediatric
residency training, sits at her desk, deeply immersed in her work. The clock on the wall ticks past
midnight as she meticulously analyzes her research data, her brow furrowed in concentration.
Daniel: Sige. Huwag kang magpupuyat nang sobra.
(With a faint smile)
Lacey: Opo, mahal
Joevia: Dr. Rose continues to work, her mind racing with thoughts and calculations. She takes a moment
to stretch her stiff muscles, the weight of responsibility heavy on her shoulders. As she sits through piles
of data, a sense of urgency drives her forward, fueled by her determination to make a difference in the
lives of her patients.
(whispering nang tahimik)
Allen: Ma, pwede ba kaming pumasok?
(Nagulat, ngunit may pagmamahal)
Lacey: Oo naman, mga mahal. Lumapit kayo rito.
(Allen, Mars, and Ejay cautiously enter the study, their pajamas slightly rumpled from sleep. They
approach their mother, their eyes filled with curiosity and concern.)
Lacey: Salamat, Ejay. Napakabait n’yo.
[Mars, Ejay, allen NOD IN UNDERSTANDING]
[next scene: morning]
(After a few hours, As the sun gets brighter, Dr. Rose keeps typing away, even though she’s really tired.
She ignores her ringing phone and drinks some coffee to stay awake.)
(Hours pass, and Dr. Rose starts feeling really tired. She wishes she could take a break from all this
work).
(Suddenly, her kids, mars, allen, and ejay, sneak into the room. They look worried seeing their mom still
working.)
Allen: Ma, buong gabi ka nang nagtatrabaho. Hindi mo ba kailangan magpahinga? Mahalaga rin ang
iyong kalusugan.
(Ngumingiti nang mahina)
Lacey: Salamat, Allen. Kailangan ko lang tapusin ang ilang bagay.
Ejay: Pero Ma, mukha kang pagod.
Lacey: Tama kayo. Kailangan ko nga mag-alaga ng sarili. Salamat sa paalala.
(Nang mahinahon)
Daniel: Tama sila, Hon. Sobrang pinaghihirapan mo ngayon. Baka kailangan mo nang magpahinga nang
kaunti.
(Dr. Rose closes her laptop, stretches, and hugs her kids, thankful for their support.)
(With new energy, Dr. Rose gets up, ready to spend time with her family.)

Lacey: My love affair with research began during my pediatric residency. Those late nights and the
excitement of discovery... it’s been a journey of passion and dedication.
I remember the thrill of presenting my findings, the innovative approach we took... it was just the
beginning.
Over the years, my research evolved, from winning hospital competitions to leading trials for a dengue
vaccine. It’s been a privilege to contribute to public health in such a significant way.
Being recognized as a finalist for the Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial Awards was a proud moment for my
family and me. Their support has been invaluable throughout my career.
To be honored with this award is truly humbling. It’s a testament to the dedication of everyone involved
in my research, from my family to my colleagues and partners.
For over three decades, research has been my passion and my purpose. And as I look to the future, I'm
excited for the greater things to come, for science, medicine, and the Filipino people.
