Overview of the Module

2
This modified module contains different competencies and activities for Self-Help skills that
are easy to implement in everyday life and designed for children with Intellectual
Impairment.

Self-help skills are different skills of a child to take care of himself/herself independently. It
is also called “Activities of Daily Living” or ADL and includes bathing, grooming, dressing,
feeding, and toileting skills.

This module will help the teacher teach the skills to a child with intellectual impairment in a
detailed approach, specifically, the skills for toileting, feeding, and bathing.

The first lesson is Toileting Skills, which has 16 activities. The second lesson is Feeding
Skills, which has 15 activities. The third lesson is Bathing Skills, which has 16 activities.
For each lesson, a short description is given followed by the Competency, Learning
Outcomes, a Reminder, and the detailed Activities. Each activity has a picture to visualize the
idea better. After the activities, an Assessment will follow wherein the means used to rate the
child’s capabilities are as follows:

4 – Independent
3 – With Minimal Assistance
2 – With Maximum Assistance
1 – Dependent

In every activity, the teacher must provide a Remark, and the Impression will follow at the
end of the activities. It will guide the teacher in creating an Intervention Plan for the child to
address the challenges.
