SET UP

Materials

4mm crochet hook 6mm safety eyes Tapestry needle Stuffing Stitch Marker

Blue Yarn Yellow Yarn Pink yarn orange yarn Scissors


Abbreviations TIP:

This pattern is written in US terminology 1.To keep track of where you are, use a stitch
mr Magic Ring marker to mark the beginning of each rnd. Each
ch Chain time you start a new rnd, move the stitch marker
sc Single Crochet to the first stitch of that rnd.
inc Increase
dec Decrease 2.Each round start with a chain,not count as
dc Double crochet a sts,and end up with a slip stitch.slip on 1st

Terminology

A Working yarn Yarn connected to the ball of yarn


B Top loops of a stitch Where you usually insert the hook, to start the next stitch
C Yarn tail End of yarn not connected to the ball of yarn
D Single crochet stitch The main stitch used in amigurumi
E Round A series of crochet stitches in a circle.

How to read the pattern

Round 3: [sc, inc] x 6 (18)

For Round 3,repeat the pattern in the brackets 6 times,the pattern is single crochet in 1 stitch, then
increase stitch in the next stitch. Increase means,you have to do single crochet twice in one stitch.
(18) means the total number of the stitches in this round.

Round 1: 6sc in magic ring (6)

A chain for standing.not count as a sts,Use the needle to find the first hoop which is "V".Place the
marker on the first stitch "V",Weave 5 single crochet in sequence.Pull the yarn to close the ring.
Place the marker on the last stitch.Slip on 1st sc to join together.Tighten the slip sts

Round 2: inc*6 (12)


a chain for standing.not count as a sts,Increase means,you have to do singles crochet twice in one
sts.In this round,make increase for 6 times.Total 12 stitches in this round.

Round 3: [sc, inc]*6 (18)


Round 4: [sc,inc],[2sc,inc]*5,sc (24)
Round 5-7: 24sc (24)

In this next round we will be creating the tail and fins.

Round 8:[5ch,sc in 2nd ch from hook,sc in next 3 stitches]*2.back to body,sl,ch as a


standing,7sc,3ch,hdc in 2ch from hook,hdc in next stitch,back to the body,10sc,3ch,hdc in 2ch from
hook,hdc in next stitch,back to body 7sc.End up with a slip stitch.

Round 9: blo: 24sc (24)


This round is worked in the back loop only.

Round10:sc,dec,[2sc,dec]*5,sc (18)
Round11: [sc,dec]*6 (12)

Insert the safety eyes between Rnd 7-8,with 4 stitches between them and stuffing fully.
Round 12:dec*6 (6)

Cut the yarn leaving a tail and pull through last st. Weave the yarn tail through the front
loop only of the final round and pull to close. Hide the end inside the whale

Techniques

Single crochet (sc)

1.Insert the hook under both loops of the next stitch.


2.There should now be 2 loops on your hook
3.Yarn over,Pull through the remaining loops on the hook
4.You’re done! You should have one loop left on your hook

Increase(Inc)

1.Insert the hookunder both loops of the next stitch,and single crochet .
2.Insert the hook into the same stitch, and single crochet again.
3.This is what a typical completed increase single crochet stitch.

1.Insert the hook under the front loops of the next two stitches.
2.Yarn over, and pull through the 2 front loops.There should now be 2 loops
3.Yarn over, and pull through the 2 loops on the hook.

Half double crochet(hdc)

1.Yarn over from back to front,and insert the hook into the next stitch.
2.Yarn over, and pull up a loop.

3.You should now have three loops on the hook.


4.Yarn over again, and pull the yarn through all three loops on the hook.
Now have one loop remaining on the hook.Great job,you finished a hdc stitch.

Double Crochet(dc)

1.The first two steps are the same as hdc.the step 3 is yarn over,pull through 2 loops on the
hook.then yarn over again, pull the yarn through the rest 2 loops on the hook.

How to change color

1.When you get to the last stitch in the current color, insert hook into the next stitch, yarn
over, and draw up a loop.
2.Yarn over with the new color.
3.Draw through both loops on the hook.

Fasten off with long tail

Before you cut your yarn, measure out at least 6 inches of extra yarn beyond your last
stitch. You’ll use this yarn to either secure the yarn you’ve just used or to attach this piece
to another.

1.Finish your last stitch and yarn over.


2. Pull the yarn all the way through the loop on the hook.
3.You’ll be left with a knot in the yarn.

Magic Ring

1.Wrap the yarn around your index and middle fingers in an X, so that the working yarn is
on top of the tail.
2.Use your middle finger and thumb to pinch the loops,pull the yarn through the ring then
yarn over and pull the yarn through the loop on hook.
3.Yarn over and pull the yarn through the loop on hook

4.This is a chain for standing,not count as a stitch.now we have completed the actual part of
the magic ring,then you will make the first single crochet,and place a marker on the 1st sc.then
follow the pattern to complete the first round.
5.Tug on the tail to close the hole in the middle of the work.
6.Just like magic.This is an example of a magic loop with 6 single crochets in it.
