This bear backpack is perfect to take to school. With this bag, every child will be ready for the next school year:
Ready to go back to school! The main body of the backpack is crocheted with Durable Macramé, which makes for
a sturdy and durable bag.
Yarn
Durable Macramé, 100% cotton, 100g/80m/87.5yd.
Yarn A: 340, Taupe, 6 balls
Durable Cosy fine, 58% cotton & 42% polyacrylics, 50g/105m/115yd
Yarn B: 385, Coffee, scrap
Crochet Hook
5.0mm/ US size H, or size needed to achieve gauge.

Round 25: Crochet 76sc. You don't crochet this round all the way around, this is where the zipper will be placed.
Cut yarn and weave in ends.
Repeat round 1 - 25 for the back of the backpack, but don’t cut your yarn after round 25, turn your work.
Round 26: crochet 1t-ch, place round 25 from the front of the backpack against round 25 from the back of the
backpack. Make sure the right sides of both pieces are on the outside of your work.
The sist that you will work in this round is crocheted as follows:
Starting at the front of the backpack, pull the hook through the front loop and then pull the hook through the back
loop of the back of the backpack. Now crochet islst. Crochet a total of 76sist in this way.
Now place the zipper in the opening that has been created. Then sew the zipper to your work with the sewing
thread and the embroidery needle.
Attach a nice piece of strap to the end of the zipper. This makes it easier for children to open and close the zipper
and it gives the backpack a nice look.
Ears:
Using yarn A and a 5.0mm/ US-H hook.
The ears will be crocheted on the front side of the backpack in the front loops of round 21.
Round 1: Start in the sts at the right side, where the zipper is ending, attach yarn with 1ch (counts as 1st sc) and
crochet 11sc more, turn [12]
Round 2: 1t-ch (counts as Ist sc), crochet 11sc more, turn [12]
Round 3: 1t-ch (counts as Ist sc), skip next sc, crochet 10sc, turn [11]
Round 4: 1t-ch (counts as 1st sc), skip next sc, crochet 9sc, turn [10]
Round 5: 1t-ch (counts as 1st sc), skip next sc, crochet 8sc, turn [9]

Cut yarn and weave in ends.
Then work a sc edge around the ear from the first st of round 1, along the side of all rounds, to the last st of round 1.
Cut yarn and weave in ends.
‘Skip 20sts at the left side of this ear and repeat round 1-8 of the ear for the other ear.
Eye:
Using yarn B and a 5.0mm/ US-H hook.
Round 4: Crochet 6sc in a magic ring [6]
Cut the yarn long enough to sew the eye to the backpack.
Crochet another eye in the same way.
Snout:
Using yarn B and a 5.0mm/ US-H hook.
Round 4: Crochet 3ch [3]
Round 2: Starting in the 2nd ch from hook, crochet 2sc, isc in next st, turn [3]
Round 3: 1t-ch (doesn’t count as 1st sc), crochet 2sc in next st, 2sc, turn [4]
Round 4: 1t-ch (doesn't count as 1st sc), crochet 2sc in next st, 3sc, turn [5]
Round 5: 2ch (counts as ist dc), idc in same st, 2dc in next st, isc in next st, 2dc in next st, 2dc in next st [9]
Cut yarn and leave a long end to sew the snout to the backpack.
Shoulder straps:
Cut the shoulder strap in half so that you have 2 100cm/39.4" long straps.
With yarn A and a tapestry needle, sew the rings to the back of the backpack as follows:
‘Two rings on either side at the top of the bag and two rings on either side at the bottom of the backpack.
Pass a shoulder strap through the left ring at the top and place the end of the shoulder strap against the long end
of the shoulder strap. Sew this together with an embroidery needle and the sewing thread. Then attach a buckle to
the shoulder strap. Then pass the other end of the shoulder strap through the bottom ring on the left. Insert the
end of the shoulder strap through the buckle and fold the shoulder strap in half so that the end is just below the
buckle. Sew the end to the shoulder strap like this.
Repeat with the right shoulder strap.
