Rationale
The transition from junior high to senior high school is an important phase in a
student’s academic career. Students must choose a specialized academic strand during
this phase that’s related with their future goals and job interests. Their entire high
school experience and education may be greatly influenced by this choice. It is crucial
for themselves to understand how students make this decision and the experiences that
follow within their chosen strand. The study will investigate senior high school students’
experiences with their chosen academic strands, highlighting the disadvantages and
advantages they face as well as providing insights into the ways in which these
experiences affect their academic performance and future professional. This pivotal
choice often influences their academic trajectory and career prospects
In the contemporary educational landscape, senior high school students in
various countries are faced with the crucial decision of selecting an academic strand or
track that aligns with their interests and career aspirations. Strand selection refers to the
process by which students choose an academic or vocational pathway in senior high.
Their education will be focused on either academic subjects, technical-vocational
training, sports, or the arts and design as a result of this decision. Their future jobs
options, skill development, and courses are all impacted by the chosen strand.
A accurate decision takes into consideration a person’s career goals, hobbies, and
resource availability. The process sets the foundation for a student’s future academic
and career opportunities.
Senior high school offers these academic strands: Academic, Technical-
Vocational-Livelihood (TVL), Sports, and Arts and Design. Each strand caters to different
interests and career aspirations, shaping students’ future paths. Choosing the right
strand is crucial as it lays the foundation for academic and professional goals. Students’
experiences within these strands can vary widely, influencing their engagement and
academic success. Ultimately, their choice impacts their long-term career satisfaction.
A student’s experience in their chosen strand is influenced by factors such as the
quality of education, available resources, and personal interests. TVL strands often
provide practical training and vocational skills that directly lead to job opportunities. In
contrast, academic strands offer rigorous coursework and preparation for higher
education. To fully understand these experiences, it is important to examine how
students perceive their curriculum, their interactions with peers and teachers, and how
their strand aligns with their career goals. These factors collectively shape their overall
educational experience and future prospects.
Different strands present unique advantages and challenges. Students in
academic strands may face significant academic pressure and high expectations.
Conversely, those in TVL strands might struggle with issues related to training facilities or
job placement opportunities. Despite these challenges, students can benefit from a
more focused education, enhanced skill sets, and clearer career paths. Analyzing these
factors helps identify areas needing support and improvement to enhance the overall
educational experience.
Understanding how these choices affect students’ academic performance,
personal growth, and career paths requires researching senior high school students’
experiences with their selected strand. It assists in identifying the difficulties students
encounter when their interests do not coincide with the strand they have chosen, as
well as the resources that help them have a positive experience. The results of this study
can help educators and decision-makers design career guidance programs that are more
successful and enhance the resources that are available for each strand. Furthermore, it
offers important knowledge into students’ mental and emotional health. Understanding
students’ experiences with their chosen strand is essential for educators, policymakers,
and stakeholders to enhance educational strategies and support mechanisms. This aim
to explore and analyze the experiences of senior high school students regarding their
selected strands, shedding light on their motivations, challenges, and perceived
outcomes.
It Is important to conduct additional study on senior high school students’
experiences with their selected strand in order to discover discrepancies in the quality
and accessibility of education among various paths. Teachers can better customize
assistance and instruction for students by knowing how their socioeconomic
circumstances, personal goals, and school resources influence their strand choices.
Interventions. Additionally, this study may reveal areas in which students lack the
necessary skills for further study or the workforce. Indicating the need for extra skill-
building opportunities or curriculum modifications. Additionally, investigating the
emotional and psychological experiences in regard to choosing strands can clarify the
the value of mental health services at educational institutions. Over time, this kind of
research aims to create a more welcoming and a framework for instruction that is
student-centered and supports academic and personal development outcomes.

academic performance, motivation, and future aspirations. The primary goals of this
study are to determine the critical elements affecting students’ contentment and
difficulties in their selected fields of study, as well as the best resources and support
networks for them.
This study seeks to address the following questions:
   1. What is the level of academic performance of the:
          1.1 male
          1.2 female
