Materials I use
  • W
     orsted weight yarn in your colour choice
    (I like to use Stylecraft Special Aran in camel and white).
  • S ize 3.00mm Crochet hook or 3.25mm hook - if you want to increase or decrease the
     size of the monkey – use the correct yarn type for your hook… amigurumi requires a tight
     tension.
  • Black cotton yarn for the smile.
  • Needle and thread in black for smile.
  • 12mm black safety eyes.
  • Tapestry needle to weave in ends.
  • Poly fill stuffing.
Height of monkey is around 19 cm when using worsted weight yarn and 3.00mm hook.
Abbreviations
CH = chain
SC = single crochet
INC = single crochet increase (2 single crochets in same stitch)
INV DEC = single crochet invisible decrease - see notes
DC = double crochet
St(s) = stitch(es)
                                               2
Notes
   • Pattern is in US crochet terminology.
   • I worked in continuous rounds apart from the tail.
   • I used a 3.00mm hook throughout the pattern to get a tight gauge.
   • I advise you to use a stitch marker to keep count of your stitches.
   • In all of my animal tiebacks I use an invisible single crochet decrease. Steps for the
      invisible decrease are: insert hook into front loops only of next 2 stitches, yarn over, pull
      through 2 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through final 2 loops on hook (ends up as 1 SC).
   • T he magic ring starts most of the pieces in this pattern. If you don’t want to begin this
      way then follow these steps: Chain 2 and crochet 6 single crochets into the first chain and
      then continue onto round 2.

   • Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing closed and begin to sew closed the ends.
   • F latten the shape and begin to sew on the monkey’s smile with black cotton thread.
      Use a needle and cotton to hold the smile in place.
                                                    3

Sew on the arms underneath the head on the body and to the back of the body so the monkey’s
head is looking to the correct direction that you prefer. Do the same with the legs and the tail.
Make sure that the arms are securely sewn onto the body. Your monkey is complete!
