In many countries, the amount of household waste like food packaging is increasing.
What are the causes of this problem? What measures could be taken to reduce it?
In recent years, the amount of household waste, such as food packaging, has increased at an
alarming rate. This essay will pinpoint the causes of this phenomenon and offer feasible
solutions to address it.

The rise in household waste stems from two primary causes, the development of
consumerism and the growing preference for convenience. In terms of the influence of
consumer culture, the boom in advertisements and e-commerce has encouraged people to
shop more than ever before, leading to a significant increase in waste, particularly from
delivery packaging and old products. With the growing belief that more possessions lead to
greater happiness, consumers are convinced they need new products to live more
comfortably, even when existing items are still usable. This creates a continuous cycle of
purchasing and disposing of products, contributing to the growing waste problem.
Additionally, modern individuals often prefer convenience, which drives them to purchase
more food with single-use packaging or order food deliveries to save time. As people are
increasingly busy, they prioritize products and services that reduce the need for cooking and
cleaning up after meals. However, this convenience comes at an environmental cost, as it
leads to increased waste disposal.

Although household waste is a growing issue, government intervention can help mitigate the
problem. First, raising public awareness is essential and can be achieved through nationwide
campaigns, such as public service announcements or social media initiatives. When
individuals understand the environmental impacts of their waste, they are more likely to
make mindful purchasing decisions and prioritize recycling. Another important measure is
implementing comprehensive recycling policies. This could involve providing clear
guidelines on how to categorize waste and enforcing strict regulations to ensure compliance.
Effective recycling programs can reduce the amount of waste entering the environment and
promote a more sustainable approach to consumption.

In conclusion, the increase in household waste can largely be attributed to the rise of
consumerism and the pursuit of convenience. However, with timely government action, such
as raising public awareness and implementing better recycling systems, it is possible to
reduce waste and foster more sustainable living practices.

Despite better access to education, many adults today are still cannot read or write. In
what ways are they disadvantaged? What can governments do to help them?
Despite the increased accessibility of education, many adults remain illiterate. This inability
to read and write significantly impacts their lives in several detrimental ways. However,
government intervention can mitigate these challenges by providing practical support to help
these individuals acquire literacy skills.

Illiteracy severely hampers personal development and employment opportunities. Without

the ability to read books, documents, and other informational materials that contain a wealth
of accumulated knowledge, individuals are unable to broaden their understanding of the
world, appreciate scientific and cultural advancements, or realize their own potential. This
limitation not only stifles personal growth but also impedes the development of vision and
goals, leaving individuals unable to chart a meaningful life path. Furthermore, illiterate
individuals are often confined to low-skilled, physically demanding jobs that offer minimal
wages and limited benefits, thereby restricting their economic mobility and quality of life.

To address these issues, governments can implement several measures aimed at illiteracy
removal. Firstly, providing free literacy classes is essential, and the learning programs should
be tailored to accommodate the specific needs and schedules of adults. Indeed, the
effectiveness of these programs can be enhanced through flexible class timings, practical
learning materials, and community-based support. For instance, in Vietnam, numerous
classes are held across the country, particularly in rural and remote areas where illiteracy
rates are high. These initiatives have successfully enabled many children and adults to
become literate, thereby opening up new opportunities for them. Additionally, governments
should launch awareness campaigns to encourage participation in these classes. Adults may
feel ashamed or fear ridicule due to their illiteracy, which deters them from seeking help.
Campaigns that promote a supportive and non-judgmental learning environment can
significantly increase enrollment in literacy programs.

In summary, illiteracy deprives individuals of both personal and professional opportunities,

limiting their access to valuable knowledge and confining them to low-wage jobs.
Governments can combat these disadvantages through free literacy classes, and awareness
campaigns, thereby fostering a more inclusive and educated society.

Nowadays, celebrities earn more money than politicians. What are the reasons for this?
Is it a positive or negative development?
In contemporary society, the income disparity between celebrities and politicians has
reached appreciable proportions. This essay delves into the underlying factors behind this
phenomenon and presents a perspective on whether it is a positive or negative development.

There are a host of reasons contributing to the significant income gap between celebrities
and politicians. Notably, celebrities often derive their income not only from their primary
profession but also from lucrative endorsement deals with corporate giants. Take, for
instance, Cristiano Ronaldo, an iconic footballer whose earnings extend beyond the pitch. In
addition to his salary as a player, he amasses substantial wealth through sponsorship
agreements with major brands like Adidas, where he promotes their products on his social
media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter. Even less well-known celebrities could also
generate multiple sources of income in a similar fashion. This diversification of income
streams is a primary driver of celebrities' superior earnings when compared to politicians,
who predominantly rely on fixed salaries and are constrained by their roles in the political
arena, which seldom intersect with the commercial world.

From my perspective, while the growth in income for celebrities means better living
standards for such individuals, the lopsided income distribution has the potential to yield
adverse effects on a societal level. Chief among these is that the disproportionate gap
between the salaries of politicians and celebrities might drive an increasing number of
people, especially young ones, towards the entertainment industry rather than politics as well
as other fields. This can be seen in Vietnam where many young adults, especially those in
Generation Z, attempt to become influencers on popular social media platforms such as
TikTok and Instagram due to the high stream of income. This might contribute to the
imbalance in the job market. More worryingly, a society that excessively rewards fame and
fortune over public service and leadership may prioritize materialistic values over qualities
such as integrity, empathy, and altruism. This shift in values can have detrimental effects on
societal cohesion.

In conclusion, the substantial income gap between celebrities and politicians arises from the
diverse revenue streams available to celebrities and the constraints of a political career. This
phenomenon could pose serious challenges to the job market and the development of society.

Many people are now spending more and more time traveling to work or school. What
are the reasons? How can we solve this problem?
In recent years, the issue of prolonged commuting time to work or school has become a
pressing concern in many urban areas. This essay will explore the reasons behind this trend
and propose potential solutions to mitigate its impact.

Two primary reasons for the increase in commuting time are urbanization and housing
issues. Regarding the former, as cities expand and populations grow, urban areas become
more densely populated, leading to congestion on roads and public transportation systems.
This results in longer travel times for commuters navigating through crowded streets and
highways. Concerning the other factor, high housing costs in urban centers force many
individuals to seek more affordable housing options in suburban or rural areas, leading to
longer commutes to reach their workplaces or educational institutions.

To address the growing problem of increased commuting time, several solutions can be
implemented. Perhaps one of these is to promote telecommuting options, as this can allow
employees to work remotely from home, thus reducing the need for daily commutes and
providing flexibility and work-life balance. Another possible solution is investing in public
transportation systems, including buses, trains, and subways, which can provide efficient
and affordable alternatives to driving. Improving public transit networks, increasing the
frequency and reliability of services, and modernizing infrastructure can encourage more
people to use public transportation, thereby reducing traffic congestion and commuting
times.

In conclusion, the increase in commuting time to work or school is influenced by factors

such as urbanization, housing costs, job opportunities, and transportation infrastructure.
Addressing this issue requires a multifaceted approach that promote telecommuting and
public transportation.

Environmental damage is the problem of most countries. What factors damage the
environment and who should take responsibility?
The deterioration of environment has been one of the major issues that need urgent action to
be addressed. I believe that air pollution and deforestation are the main culprits of this
phenomenon. Therefore, both parties, namely individuals and governments, should ensure
accountability to solve the problem.

The two main factors behind this degradation are contaminated air and clearing forests.
Concerning the former, the excessive growth of industrial production combined with the
substantial increase in the number of transportation leads to the disposal of harmful gases to
the environment. These substances are generally considered as the key factor destroying the
ozone layer which protects the Earth from detrimental effects of ultraviolet rays. The second
point is that overpopulation and lucrative timber harvesting have negatively driven people to
deforest. As a result, some adversely worth-concerning consequences are animals’ struggling
to survive and the frequent occurrence of natural disasters, which creates an imbalance in the
whole ecosystem.

Both authorities and individuals are accountable for the issue of environmental damage.
Obviously, governments have to pioneer in saving the environment as those competent
authorities can make collaborative efforts in enacting new international laws which ensure
citizens’ compliance with all regulations in protecting our surroundings. In addition, each
person is responsible for not doing harm to the environment as his or her daily performance
would directly impact the habitat. For example, provided that individuals awareness of
reducing plastic use on a daily basis, the total amount of this substance disposed to the
environment would significantly plummet.

In conclusion, environmental degradation is the disadvantageous impact of polluted air and

deforestation; therefore, there is a call for responsibility of both governments and individuals
in tackling this problem.

Many researchers believe that we can now study the behaviour of children to see if they
will grow up to be criminals, while others disagree. To what extent do you think crime
is determined by genetics? Is it possible to stop children from growing up to be
criminals?
Many psychological researchers advocate that we can study the actions of children in order
to determine their potential to become future criminals, while others believe that this is
neither accurate nor ethical. In my opinion, the environment is a much larger factor in
individuals’ propensity to commit crimes, and therefore, such endeavours will not stop
children from breaking the law in the future.

Firstly, it could be argued that there are indeed biological factors that can predispose
individuals to certain behaviours, including antisocial ones. Theories of natural selection
suggest that the gene for aggressiveness can be passed down through generations, as it was
more likely to help previous humans survive. Therefore, if we are able to discern which
mechanisms in the brain can trigger such emotional responses in children, we might be able
to identify which children are at risk of becoming criminals. For instance, brain scans studies
have shown that criminals who have committed crimes but pleaded insanity have a less
developed amygdala than normal people.

On the other hand, it could be said that seeing crime as an individual issue takes away the
collective responsibility of taking care of children so that they do not have to resort to crime.
Studies show that there is a direct correlation between poverty and crime rates - thus, it is
safe to infer that individuals are much a product of their circumstance as much as their
genetics. If children are raised in an area with ample economic opportunities, I argue that it
is likely they will commit less crimes in the future. Therefore, efforts to predict children’s
behavioural patterns should instead be redirected to providing for their needs.

Overall, I believe that while a neuropsychological approach to crime can be attractive, it is

far too simplistic and takes into account an inadequate role of nurture. Thus, I believe that
using children’s behaviour to prevent crime is unnecessary and ineffective.

Today, TV channels provide men's sport shows more than women's sport shows. Why?
Should TV channels give equal time for women's sport and men's sport?
Television channels today regularly devote more air time to men’s sporting events over
women’s. Personally, I believe that the reasons for this are financial, and whilst efforts
should be made to give equal time to men’s and women’s sports, viewership means that this
would be a difficult task.

Firstly, the main consideration of television channels and studio executives to prioritise
men's sports is viewership, as more views mean more advertising revenue . Television
channels need to make a decision on how best to utilize the amount of time they have in
order to secure the highest ratings, and the reality is that men’s sports tend to be more
popular than women’s sports. The men’s World Cup Finals, for example, had viewership in
the billions, whilst this number was much lower for the womens’ World Cup. Since TV
channels’ main purpose is to make money, it is not difficult to see why they would prefer to
showcase men’s sports over women’s.

However, there is the consideration that giving women sports more publicity can help to alter
public perception over time. If something gets a huge amount of newspaper, radio, and
television coverage for decades, it is unsurprising that it would eventually become popular.
Therefore, what may help make the world of sports coverage less divided would be to report
more on women’s sports and to increase its air time. The overwhelming popularity of
women’s football in the United States, for example, provides a stunning testament to the
ability of the media to be able to thrust women’s sports into the limelight. Applying this
method to other sports might mean they can become popular as well.

In conclusion, I argue that the reason why men’s sports have been given more coverage than
women’s is due to ratings playing a fundamental role in how media companies operate.
Nonetheless, by shifting the attention to female sports, the media can make them as
successful as men’s sports in the long run.

Research indicates that some consumers nowadays are less influenced by advertising
than in the past. Why and positive or negative development?
In recent years, studies have found that advertisements are losing their effectiveness in
influencing some consumers compared to the past. This essay will explore the reasons for
this shift and argue that it represents a positive development.

There are several factors contributing to the decreasing influence of advertisements on

consumers, two of which are greater consumer awareness and the effects of economic
downturns. In terms of awareness, numerous campaigns and educational programs have
raised public consciousness about the persuasive techniques used in advertising. For
instance, consumers are now more familiar with tactics like celebrity endorsements and
exaggerated promotional offers. This heightened awareness has made them more critical and
selective about their purchases, reducing the influence of ads on their buying decisions.
Furthermore, the recent economic downturn has led to tighter household budgets, compelling
people to prioritize essential spending over discretionary purchases. As a result, consumers
are less swayed by advertisements and more focused on necessity, rather than desire.

From my perspective, the reduced influence of advertising on consumers is beneficial not

only for individuals but also for society as a whole. Although businesses might experience a
decline in sales due to less effective advertising, this could foster a shift towards innovation
and product quality. Companies may allocate more resources to research and development to
meet consumers’ real needs rather than relying on persuasive marketing strategies.
Moreover, this change can lead to more mindful consumer behavior, where people purchase
only what they truly need, thus saving money and reducing financial stress. Environmentally,
decreased consumerism results in less waste production, as fewer unnecessary products are
purchased and discarded. This contributes to a more sustainable lifestyle and reduces the
environmental footprint associated with mass production and disposal.

In conclusion, heightened consumer awareness and economic challenges are key reasons
why advertisements are becoming less influential. This trend, I believe, is a positive
development as it promotes responsible consumer behavior, supports environmental
sustainability, and encourages businesses to focus on quality over marketing gimmicks.

Companies use different ways to increase sales. What different ways do companies use
to increase sales. What is the most effective?
As the market is expanding, resulting in increased competition, businesses must come up
with innovative ways to increase sales and their presence in the customer’s mind. While
there are various marketing strategies that a firm can adopt, the most effective one must be
possessing a unique and desirable product.

To begin with, companies can take on different branding schemes in order to boost their
profit. One of which is to increase their product’s physical presence. By making frequent
appearances in a consumer’s shopping addresses, the shopper is prompted to buy the goods
out of curiosity. Another strategy is to offer promotions such as discounts and gifts along
with purchases. With the help of tempting phrases like “last chance”, “biggest of the year”,
and et cetera, this scheme hits most people’s fear of missing out and thus motivates them to
make a purchase even if they have no need for it.

Nevertheless, among all strategies that a company can adopt to increase sales, I believe that
the most effective one is to own a one-of-a-kind and sought-after product. In this case, the
business enjoys the advantages of being a market leader, with the most outstanding one
being near-zero competition. Furthermore, as the product creates its own segment in the
market, the company can have full control over the price and distribution, which will not be
viable if the product is a duplicate. For example, that the iPhone is a pioneer in the
smartphone industry has enabled Apple to still make huge profits off iPhones though
competition has gotten more cut-throat, thanks to its expensive price tag and well-known
brand.

To sum up, businesses can employ a number of strategies to push sales, yet the one which
yields the best results is to offer customers a product that is unique and desirable.

Many people are travelling to other countries. Why? Is it a positive or negative
development?
More people today find themselves interested in travelling to foreign nations. I believe that
this phenomena is a result of increased access to information on social media, and yet is
fundamentally adverse to the local cultures that experience mass tourism.

Firstly, I believe that social media has allowed people to catch a glimpse of foreign locales,
which in turn entices them to visit destinations that they otherwise would not have before.
When people see travel adverts through online platforms, they are compelled to explore it
themselves and showcase their experience on social media. This is why many people on the
internet today have been able to create a career out of travelling and posting pictures on the
internet alone: there is a huge market for the advertisements of travel destinations on apps
such as Instagram and Facebook today.

However, increased travel to tourist destinations has inadvertently internationalized them

over time as governments and urban planners aim to make the stay of rich foreign tourists
more comfortable and luxurious. Gradually, little by little of what makes the place special is
replaced by a generic, commercialized shell. This creates a situation in places such as
Angkor Wat in Cambodia, where the serenity of the temples is destroyed by the
overwhelming number of tourists.

Overall, I believe that the rise of the internet and social media in particular has contributed to
the proliferation of global travel. Nevertheless, tourism has thrived at the expense of the
destinations' local cultures. On the whole, I therefore argue that this development has been
an unwanted one for most local populations.

An increasing number of people are choosing to have cosmetic surgery in order to
improve their appearance. Why do people have operations to change the way they
look? Do you think this is a positive or negative development?
People worldwide increasingly opt for plastic surgery to enhance their appearance, a trend
fueled by the societal emphasis on beauty standards. However, I believe this development is
negative as it can harm a person's health.

Cosmetic procedures are in high demand because people want to meet society's expectations
for beauty. Those with ideal facial features or body shapes have advantages in social and
professional settings. Some professions, such as acting and flight attending, are especially
concerned with physical appearance. Even in other job vacancies, recruiters and HR
representatives may eliminate candidates who do not meet beauty standards before assessing
their skills or experience. In Korea, where appearance is particularly important, plain-looking
citizens not only face difficulties in securing jobs but also appearance-based discrimination.

While plastic surgery can offer benefits, it also poses physical and psychological risks.
Complications such as infection, scarring, and post-anesthetic issues are common. In severe
cases, patients may experience facial dysmorphia, cardiovascular or respiratory
complications, or even death. Patients may also become dissatisfied with the results, leading
to body dysmorphia disorder, a mental health condition in which they become overly
preoccupied with perceived flaws in their appearance. They may also suffer from depression
and anxiety or become addicted to plastic surgery, all of which contribute to poor mental
health.

In conclusion, the pressure to conform to beauty standards has led to the popularity of the
cosmetic surgery industry. However, indulging in plastic beauty can have a negative impact
on people's health. Therefore, this trend should be monitored and controlled.

In some parts of the world, people try to find out one’s own family history. Why do
people do this? Do you think it is positive or negative?
Ancestral lineage research has been argued by many people to be important in recent times.
In this essay, I will seek to show why individuals in certain regions make an endeavor in
knowing more about their families and reach an accord that the phenomenon is positive.

The trend of discovering family history can be explained by the urge to get closer to one’s
own family and the desire to learn about the health records of the family. Concerning the
former reason, it is true that ancestral lineage research enables the reconnection of family
members. This could potentially be of great comfort to orphans or those who do not know
who their parents are. DNA tests, for example, have helped many people without family to
track down their long-lost relatives and discover brothers and sisters they never knew they
had. Turning to the second point, knowing the medical history of a family enhances the
understanding of genetically inheritable medical conditions such as asthma, obesity, and
diabetes. Therefore, people would take appropriate action to identify ways to mitigate the
adverse effects of diseases.

From my perspective, the overwhelming desire of finding family history can be deemed
positive due to its role in preserving familial culture and customs and motivating individuals
to overcome life’s troubles. Chief among these is that the discovery of ancestry plays a
crucial role in maintaining the culture and traditions of one’s family. Once the descendants
are fully aware of the significance of cultural values passed down from previous generations,
they would show more willingness in preserving as well as promoting those intangible
merits. Moreover, a means of self-motivation can be regarded as one of the worth-
mentioning advantages of examining family roots. During the discovery, people would be
more mindful of obstacles that their ancestors overcame, thereby driving them to be bold and
brave in dealing with issues in life.

In conclusion, research on ancestors is prompted by the desire to form a close bond with
former generations and to know about familial health records. I would opine this
development positive due to its benefits in maintaining culture and boosting individuals’ will
in life.
12/01/2023 chủ đề kiến trúc (Architecture):Some people believe that certain old
buildings should be preserved more than others. What types of old buildings should be
preserved? Do you think the advantages of preserving old buildings outweigh the
disadvantages?
Preserving historic buildings is a contentious issue, with some arguing that certain buildings
should be preserved more than others. I believe we should prioritize the preservation of
buildings with the greatest cultural and historical significance. In addition, the drawbacks of
keeping historic structures exceed their benefits slightly since preservation expenses and
their effect on economic growth must be acknowledged.

Firstly, buildings with significant cultural or historical value should be preserved. This
includes landmarks such as ancient temples, castles, and churches, which serve as a
testament to a region's rich history and cultural heritage. Preserving such buildings helps to
maintain a sense of continuity and connection to the past, providing a window into the
history and culture of a community. Secondly, buildings with unique architectural features
should also be preserved. These could include art deco buildings, Gothic-style churches, and
Victorian mansions. Such buildings represent the pinnacle of design and architecture from
their respective eras and remind them of the evolution of architectural styles over time.

However, preserving old buildings also has its drawbacks. Maintaining and preserving such
buildings can be prohibitively expensive, and resources are often limited. This can divert
resources away from other pressing needs, such as the construction of new infrastructure,
affordable housing, and public services. Moreover, preserving old buildings can sometimes
come at the cost of economic development. Preservation efforts may hinder economic
growth by limiting land use and obstructing new development. This can lead to reduced job
opportunities and economic prosperity for the region.

In conclusion, the most culturally and historically significant structures should be preserved
first. Moreover, the expenses of preservation and its influence on economic growth must also
be evaluated, and these factors marginally offset the benefits of keeping historic structures.

Nowadays people use bicycles less as a form of transport. Why is that? What can we do
to encourage people to use bicycles more?
It is less common for people to use bicycles as a mode of transport. This essay will explore
the reasons behind this phenomenon and then suggest some viable solutions to it.

The decline in bicycle usage as a form of transport can be attributed to inadequate

infrastructure and safety concerns. Regarding the former, as cities grow and become more
densely populated, there is often a lack of adequate infrastructure to support safe and
convenient cycling. Narrow roads, limited bike lanes, and inadequate cycling facilities can
deter people from using bicycles as a mode of transport, especially in areas with heavy
traffic or poor road conditions. Concerning the other reason, certain perceived risks
associated with cycling, including accidents, collisions with motor vehicles, and theft of
bicycles, can deter people from using this mode of transport, especially in busy urban areas
with high levels of traffic congestion. This is the case of Vietnam where cyclists often voice
their concerns with potential collisions with motorcycles when navigating busy roads, which
has undermined confidence in cycling as a viable mode of transport.

To encourage people to use bicycles more as a form of transport, several measures can be
implemented. To begin with, governments and urban planners can invest in building and
improving cycling infrastructure, including dedicated bike lanes, separated cycle tracks,
bike-sharing programs, and secure bike parking facilities. By creating safe, convenient, and
accessible cycling routes, more people may be encouraged to cycle for transportation
purposes. Another possible approach is to launch education and awareness campaigns that
can help promote a positive cycling culture and encourage people to view cycling as a viable
and attractive mode of transport. These campaigns can highlight the health, environmental,
and economic benefits of cycling, as well as showcase successful examples of cycling-
friendly cities and initiatives.

In conclusion, the declining interest in cycling stems from worries related to infrastructure
and safety. By investing in cycling infrastructure, and promoting cycling culture, the
authorities can create cities that are safer, healthier, and more sustainable for cyclists.

Nowadays, some parents put a lot of pressure on their children to succeed. What are parents’
reasons for doing this? Is this positive or negative development for the children?
In contemporary society, many parents exert considerable pressure on their children to
achieve success. This essay will examine the motivations driving this trend and argue that
while some parental expectations can inspire children, excessive pressure often leads to
detrimental effects on their well-being.

Many reasons can be given to explain why some parents impose high expectations on their
children and pressurize them to become successful people, one of which could stem from
genuine concern for their children’s future. Indeed, they believe that a good education will
secure promising career opportunities and ensure a comfortable life for their offspring.
Meanwhile, some parents associate their own pride and happiness with their children's
achievements. This causes them to set unrealistic goals and exert relentless pressure on their
children to excel academically or professionally.

From my perspective, moderate parental pressure, coupled with encouragement, can serve as
a motivational force for children to strive for personal growth and improvement.
Nonetheless, when parents solely focus on how successful their children can be, hold
burdensome expectations, or neglect the child's well-being as well as interests, they can
inflict significant harm on their children. Instances from countries such as Korea and Japan
highlight the severe mental health consequences of excessive parental pressure, often
resulting in stress, anxiety, and more tragically, suicide among young individuals striving to
meet their parents’ expectations of success. This is why I hold the belief that when parents
place unrelenting pressure on their children, they could make their children miserable.

In conclusion, while some parents may pressure their children to succeed with the intention
of securing a better future or fulfilling their own aspirations, this approach often has adverse
effects on children's mental and emotional health. Therefore, I contend that the pervasive
culture of parental pressure is a negative development that undermines children's well-being
and happiness.
