Here's a brief history of the Bombay Stock


Exchange (BSE), one of the oldest and
largest stock exchanges in India:

*Early Years (1840s-1900s)*

1. 1830s: Informal trading begins in


Bombay (now Mumbai).
2. 1850: First organized stock exchange,
"The Native Share and Stock Brokers
Association," formed.
3. 1874: "The Bombay Stock Exchange"
officially established.
4. 1887: BSE moves to its first dedicated
building.

*Growth and Expansion (1900s-1980s)*

1. 1900s: BSE introduces trading in cotton,


textiles, and other commodities.
2. 1921: BSE shifts to its iconic Phiroze
Jeejeebhoy Towers building.
