UNDER ITS INFLUENCE, A LOW PRESSURE AREA IS VERY LIKELY TO FORM OVER THE

IT IS VERY LIKELY TO MOVE WEST-NORTHWESTWARDS AND INTENSIFY INTO A

DEPRESSION BY 22ND OCTOBER MORNING AND INTO A CYCLONIC STORM BY 23RD

SUB: CYCLONIC DISTURBANCE LIKELY TO DEVELOP OVER BAY OF BENGAL AND AFFECT ODISHA
COASTS DURING 23RD-25TH OCTOBER: PRE-CYCLONE WATCH

An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over North Andaman Sea in the forenoon (0830 hrs
IST) of today, the 20th October 2024. Under its influence, a Low Pressure Area is very likely to
form over the Eastcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea during next 24 hours.
It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression by 22nd October
morning and into a cyclonic storm by 23rd October, 2024 over Eastcentral Bay of Bengal.
Thereafter, it is very likely to move northwestwards and reach northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-
West Bengal coasts by 24th October morning.

Forecast for next five days:

Day-1 :(Valid up to 0830 Hrs IST of 21.10.24):

Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of South Odisha,
North Coastal Odisha & dry weather very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha..
Day -2 :(Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 21.10.24 to 0830 Hrs IST of 22.10.24)
Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Koraput,
Malkangiri, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati & dry weather very likely to prevail in the rest
districts of Odisha.

Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Balasore,
Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Koraput, Malkangiri & dry weather very likely to prevail
in the rest districts of Odisha.

i) Flash flood/Water logging in low lying areas, inundation of agriculture field,
Mudslides/landslides in vulnerable hilly areas.
ii) Possibility of some damage to informal/Kutcha road, wall collapsed of vulnerable kutcha
houses.
iii) Water logging in underpass road and occasional reduction of visibility causing traffic
congestion in urban areas.
iv) It may lead to significant rise in water level of rivers.
v) Keep arrangement for drainage of excess water from nursery bed, preparations for
sowing of paddy crops, seed collections may be done.
vi) Avoid movement in affected areas, stay in safe place.
vii) Postponed fertilizer/chemicals application in agricultural field, keep livestock in safe place.
viii) Mining activity may be judicially regulated.
ix) Avoid staying in vulnerable kutchha houses. Advisory on traffic congestion may be
followed before leaving for your destination.
Orange warning (Be Prepared to take action)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) & thunderstorm with lightning very likely to
occur at isolated places in the districts of Kendrapara, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal,
Gajapati .
Impact and action suggested
1. Temporarily water logging likely in low lying areas and underpass road.
2. Poor visibility during intense spell of rain and traffic congestion in urban areas.
3. Some damages to kutchha Road and possibility of wall collapsed of vulnerable
kutchha houses. Some damages to vegetables and horticultural crops likely.
4. Avoid staying in vulnerable kutchha houses. Advisory on traffic congestion may be
followed before leaving for your destination.
5. Arrangement for drainage of excess water from nursery bed, preparations for sowing
of paddy crops, seed collections may be done.
6. Mudslides/landslides in vulnerable hilly areas.

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) & thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at isolated
