National Honor Society

October 7th, 2024

Dear Sadie Dykstra,

Congratulations! Membership in the National Honor Society is one of the highest

honors that can be awarded to a high school student. Our chapter of NHS has worked
hard to bring the accomplishments of outstanding students to the attention of parents,
teachers, peers, and the community. Our chapter and the more than 16,000 chapters in
schools across the nation strive to give practical meaning to the Society’s standards of
Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character.
These four ideals have been considered as the basis for your selection. No student is
inducted simply because of a high academic average. The National Honor Society strives
to recognize the total student—one who excels in all of these areas. The standards used
for your selection were: scholarship - by maintaining a 3.5 cumulative grade point
average, service, leadership, and character, as demonstrated by activities and teacher
input.
Membership, however, is more than an honor. It incurs a responsibility and an
obligation to demonstrate those outstanding qualities that resulted in your selection.
Your membership also carries a responsibility to the chapter. If our chapter to the
National Honor Society is to be effective and meaningful, each member must become
involved. As a member, you will be accepting the responsibility to complete a
mandatory 15 hours of community service by the beginning of May 2023. Part of those
hours needs to include participating in 5 events that I advertise through Remind or are
directly affiliated with Yale Public Schools. I have enclosed your sheet to log your hours.
At the beginning of May, I will collect your sheet. If you do not meet the required hours,
you will lose your standing in National Honor Society. If you have any questions, please
send me a message through Remind.
The NHS Induction ceremony will be taking place on November 4th at 7:00pm in
the high school cafeteria. I would ask that you arrive by 6:45. We also bring a
dessert to pass for this ceremony. We enjoy those desserts after the induction! We
will be having a mandatory meeting during Growth Time on October 31st in the
cafeteria to practice the induction ceremony.
You should be very proud of this achievement; it is a testimony to your hard work and
dedication as a student and an individual. I look forward to working with you very soon!

Sincerely,

Nicole McIntyre
Adviser, National Honor Society
