Blkout Lore
Blkout Lore
2022 - The VLA receives mysterious radio activity from deep space. The US government and NASA
covertly dispatch space telescopes for data. The covert effort is masked by a massive PR effort
advocating space exploration, generating favor and funding for NASA in the US.
2023 - Israel launches a massive offensive into Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria in response to coordinated
penetrations and terrorist attacks by Hamas and Hezbollah. Iran’s quick support, funding, and supplying
from the rear halts the offensive and begins to turn the tide. To the west’s dismay, Qatar also supports
the Palestinian side of the war effort.
2024 - As the new Pan-Arabic Coalition (PAC) pushes Israel to its breaking point, the media and PR
outcry reaches an all time high. As an election year hosting an unpopular president with one term, The
US joins the war leading a coalition consisting of the UK, France, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq. This
begins the Great Middle Eastern War of 2024.
2025 - Fearing the consequences of a possible massive nuclear exchange, the US continues its renewed
funding of NASA focusing on livable space stations and planetary terraforming. Photos of grass on Mars
(in climate controlled domes) go viral and boost worldwide support for the US and space travel as a
whole.
Winter 2025 - As US funding and attention is diverted elsewhere, Kyiv falls to the Russian Federation.
Putin’s 3 day “special military operation” lasts years, but is ultimately successful. Several former Soviet
states pledge their renewed loyalty out of fear.
2026 - In the final push of the Great Middle Eastern War, the US invades Tehran. Rather than surrender,
elements of the Iranian government flee to Saudi Arabia and detonate a nuke in the heart of Tehran
during combat operations. The US loses almost two divisions of troops along with an untold number of
civilian casualties. In the same stroke, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, the UAE, and Armenia join the PAC and
reorganize into the Pan Arab Oil Coalition (PAOC) to control the worldwide price of oil. This
comprehensive military and economic move forces the US to the negotiating table, and a peace treaty is
signed.
2027 - European countries buckle under the weight of a massive refugee crisis in the wake of the Great
Middle Eastern War and the Fall of Ukraine. The EU declares a state of martial law and urges the United
Nations to send additional troops. The US refuses to commit troops to the dismay of the EU, NATO, and
the UN. Adversaries see an opportunity, and Russia, China, and India commit massive amounts of troops
in exchange for international favor and political leverage against the EU.
2029 - As Russia and China’s European relief deployments end and the world continues to recede into
multipolar blocks, the bucking cities and expanding mega shantytowns of a financially and militarily
depleted EU remain a dangerous hotbed. A voluntary UN vote is called to unite Europe, India, and any
willing country into a single centralized republic governed by the UN. Most countries invited agree,
establishing the United Nations as its own global superpower.
2030 - The data and pictures captured from the space telescopes suggest that a small planet near the
signal origin could sustain human life. The planet is named ABOL using the initials of the NASA
astronomers who discovered it. In a move to regain international favor and appease the UN, the US
government pitches the LEAP (Leaving Earth Program) to the UN and offers to financially and
geographically lead the construction of the colony ship and space station, citing increased security and a
reduced risk of sabotage. The UN agrees and the 10 year timeline begins.
2031 - Countries and corporations throughout the world push the “Hope” PR campaign for the LEAP.
“Hope” quickly dominates the internet as the largest organized information operation in history. Oliver
Espidoza, an infamous and eccentric American tech billionaire, announces his promise of cryosleep
technology in limited (and expensive) quantities aboard the starships in development, opening the eyes
of the wealthy and middle class to the 30 year journey to ABOL.
2032 - In a summit broadcasted worldwide, the UN insists that it should be the sole governor of ABOL
“for the good of the people.” The feed of the summit cuts early and for a private negotiation between
world leaders and corporate lobbyists. After two hours, the feed restores and discusses the results of
the negotiation. In the new “LEAP Act,” space will mostly follow international waters laws and the UN
and private corporations will be able to land immediately with nationally aligned ships being required to
wait 2 years “in the interest of unobstructed human and infrastructure development.” The PAOC wins
primary mining rights insisting they have no wish to hold territory on other planets, merely mine
resources to send back to a straining Earth, citing religious reasons. Additionally, all ships and
organizations not in the “First Wave” must negotiate their own contracts with the UN to land on ABOL.
2035 - Smaller research ships are launched by the UN, US, the PAOC, and Russia to confirm ABOL’s
viability, pick a suitable landing site for the colony ship, and begin any necessary terraforming
operations. Every faction has their own covert goals for ABOL, and about 1000 nationally aligned
explorers take the journey.
2040 - The “Hope” and the rest of the First Wave ships leave Earth with about 250,000 people and begin
the 30 year journey to ABOL.
2044 - During the First Wave journey, the UN uses the time to prepare and develop advantages to seize
and maintain control of ABOL. Secret scientific and military projects are perfected over the course of the
long journey, namely the Twin Moons Project.
2045 - A groundbreaking whistleblower intelligence and media report proves the PAOC covertly
supports insurgent factions waging war in UN territories to increase the price of oil and solidify global
resource dependency on the PAOC. Pakistan and India declare war amid erupting tensions on the
border. The US enters the war on India’s side to solidify an oil deal in US dollars, the PAOC backs up
Pakistan and the UN backs India.
2046 - Peace is quickly negotiated between the UN and the PAOC after India and Pakistan kill millions
and displace almost a billion with a massive nuclear exchange. Rogue nukes also strike Israel. A joint
infowar campaign blames the US for escalating the conflict as the UN and PAOC make their own energy
deal.
2047 - Scientists predict major flooding of global coastlines due to the global temperature increase and
weather conditions created by nuclear fallout. Many begin to believe Earth will not make it to the end of
the century.
2048 - Hundreds of thousands of refugees die as the PAOC and UN jointly lock down their borders,
forcing refugees into Africa, Asia, Russia, and South America. Many states buckle and fail in the worst
refugee crisis in human history. The remnants of the Indian government declare war on China for
resources to support a starving and irradiated populace. The Indian government and the G5 African
states fund the largest ever private military to invade China. The US aids with logistics and special
operations.
2049 - Several organizations begin to organize the “Second Wave” of spaceflights to ABOL to alleviate
the gargantuan refugee crisis. However, due to recent events, the second wave becomes extremely
popular for young people choosing to gamble on ABOL rather than risk almost certain doom on Earth.
2050 - The Second Wave leaves Earth in hundreds of ships carrying about 1,000,000 people. Most ships
are corporate in nature, promising passage for work.
2065 - The First Wave receive marking beacon transponder signals from terraforming stations and
habitable landing zones, but receive no other communications or signs of life from the recon and
research teams. The beacon data also transmits that the north pole of the country emits strong
radioactive signals.
2069 - The UN announces to the First Wave that the Hope and accompanying UN fleet is outfitted with
several experimental ship to ship missiles and guns to enforce the LEAP Act. It also announces that it
holds several surface to orbit missiles and ground to ground long range artillery guns to sustain long
term compliance.
2070 - Upon approach into ABOL, several Russian vessels fire upon the Hope in protest of the LEAP Act,
but ultimately stand little chance against the combined might of the UN and PAOC fleets. The Russian
ships that survive break contact on the far side of ABOL’s moons. No other ships violate the LEAP Act.
The UN lands the Hope vertically in the massive Cenriv I crater, the most naturally habitable region on
the planet, and begins construction of the space elevator out of the colony ship along with their new
capital city, Ethron, in the center of the crater. There is no sign whatsoever of the research and recon
teams from Earth. About two thirds of the ships that left Earth make it to ABOL’s orbit.
2071 - The UN establishes a series of satellites in low orbit. When questioned, the UN claims they are
meteorological satellites to monitor ABOL’s unique weather patterns, however, their orbit always seems
to follow the waiting national ships. These satellites were in fact control nodes for an orbital minefield
and sensor system designed to give precise targeting data to the mines, munitions launched into orbit
from the Hope, and munitions launched from the UN Resplendent class destroyers and the Salvation
class frigates monitoring the national fleets. The UN also denies several requests by the American fleet
to search for its pathfinders from the missing scouting expedition.
2072 - In compliance with the LEAP Act timeline, the national ships begin their final approach into ABOL.
In a surprise pincer ambush, the UN satellites and ships launch a massive payload of nuclear missiles at
the national fleets. Most ships are vaporized instantly. However, due to advanced American armor,
point defenses, and shielding technology, some ships manage to slip past the satellites but are lost to
the Hope’s defenses, making easier targets as they move slower entering the atmosphere. Some Chinese
and American ships break through the UN trap, sporting better point defense weapon systems, but then
begin firing on one another in the chaos and confusion. At the end of the engagement, the surviving
American and Chinese personnel and ships were killed or captured by overwhelming UN numbers. A
lone experimental US stealth ship leaves orbit and breaks contact behind the newly created ship
graveyard drifting in space. The UN tells its people that the old earth governments were planning on
uniting to take the Cenriv 1 crater for themselves and planned to leave no UN personnel alive, and that
this was a purely defensive operation. Survivors of the betrayal and some inspired colonists begin small-
scale guerrilla activity, vowing revenge against the UN. Out of the 250,000 who left Earth for ABOL in the
First Wave, less than 100,000 reached the planet’s surface.
2073 - Falling ship debris and mysterious ash storms start to kill hundreds of explorers and colonists in
the more exposed badlands, halting colonial expansion outside of naturally protected cities controlled
by the UN and the PAOC. As cities become cut off and begin to starve, the Sabra cartel out of San Christo
gains fame and wealth through not only their advanced agricultural production, but also an exceptional
ability to smuggle food, water, and supplies through storms and borders alike. Factions within the most
isolated cities begin to fight over the available food and water in some extreme cases, forming local
militias to seize food from UN aristocrats and protect small farms from UN peacekeepers rather than
watch their families starve. This is the beginning of the civil defense movement known as IMPISI.
Additionally, in the confusion of the storms, several UN blacksites are raided with scientific materials
and experiments stolen. Isolated in their cities and bored, citizens and aristocrats alike begin to bet on
the success or failure of hired supply runs and raids in a game called the “Killwager.” Successfully betting
on the Killwager, especially your own job, could make, break, or kill you overnight.
2074 - As terraforming efforts begin to bear fruit and data models are developed, the UN quickly realizes
it must consolidate valuable land and water in Centriv 1. The UN’s Service, Settlement, and Security Act
(SSSA) redistributes land in Ethron and establishes protected reserves, designating settlement zones
aligned with a meritocracy system designed by the UN. Employees and citizens deemed more valuable
to the UN and partnered corporations lived and worked in areas with cleaner air, grass, and even water
in some suburban areas in the reserves for aristocrats. These sectors had better security, schools,
hospitals, services, and public transportation both ground and air to transport employees from their
homes to work in the UN and corporate high rises near the centrally located space elevator. Most
citizens of Ethron were left in the growing urban sprawl of Ethron proper, relegated to small apartments
in megaplexes along overcrowded and dirty streets. Residents are given 3 years to comply with the new
laws, and the UN begins seizing most civilian-owned weapons in Ethron. The UN expands this program
to their other cities, starting with the smaller ones as rehearsals for Ethron.
2077 - When the SSSA grace period ends, the UN concentrates almost all of its combat power on a two
front assault on the city, both inside out and outside in. However, the last year has also given the people
of ABOL time to prepare as well. A massive protest around the military base surrounding the space
elevator provides a blocking position for militia forces to engage the attacking UN forces working outside
in first, bringing the assault to a standstill. Or at least that was the plan. A warning shot fired above the
crowd from a UN interdiction suite deflects and blows the arm off of a girl in a yellow dress in the crowd.
The enraged mob storms the base and space elevator, changing the UN policing operation into a full
scale military operation to secure the space elevator. Thousands are killed in the streets and thousands
more flee into the caves on the rim of Cenriv 1, creating the network of shanty towns built into the side
of a crater known as the Scatter. A group known as IRAFEL begins a campaign demonizing the UN for its
tyranny and celebrating as the heroes who gave their lives defending the citizens of Ethron. Several
thousand citizens across ABOL leave UN-controlled cities. This riot became known as the “Yellow
Revolution” for the little girl in the yellow dress who was the first casualty in the war against UN tyranny.
IRAFEL vows revenge against the UN at all costs.
2078 - As the UN attributes more and more “terrorist attacks'' to IRAFEL, they pay Ibragim–a covert
corporate private security wing of the PAOC–to hunt down IRAFEL cells across ABOL. In the cities, the
UN kills IMPISI militiamen and forges bodycounts, insisting that citizens are “safe” from the IRAFEL
“terrorist threat” while maintaining martial law through fear mongering.
2079 - Anti-UN sentiment reaches an all time high as the pop star Gaia explodes in popularity, singing
about the UN’s tyranny and the events of 2077. The UN officially outlaws her shows and consumption of
her music is highly illegal, but that only adds to her popularity.
2080 - The Second Wave reaches ABOL. Several corporate interests manage to negotiate contracts with
the UN or PAOC and are cleared to land. Some ships attempt to run the blockade and are destroyed by
the UN. Some ships slip past the defenses undetected. Many ships sit in orbit waiting in a queue to
negotiate. This could take months or even years as ships create banded drifts for security while piracy is
rampant. Most notably, Harlow Kinetic Solutions makes planetfall to support UN counterinsurgency
efforts. The UN headquarters in Ethron is bombed, starting an explosion of hostilities all over the planet.
This starts what becomes known as the Second Landing War.
2081 - The eccentric technologist and chairman of ABOL Labor, Oliver Espidoza, is found dead in an off
the books mining site in the far northern reaches of ABOL. While publicly IRAFEL is blamed, a covert
investigation by Jackal Team, an elite Harlow Special Operations unit aided by local partner forces,
uncovers that the assassination was done by none other than the PAOC to seize mining sites in the
North that were somehow… different. After reporting these findings to Harlow and UN command, the
State powers betray Jackal Team to keep the truth concealed. The attempt to assassinate Jackal fails,
and they create an underground network to continue investigating the PAOC and what they want in the
North. Jackal Team gains planetary fame competing in the Killwager to fund their intelligence network.
2082 - The joint effort of Jackal Team, Impisi, Irafel, Sabra, turned elements within Ibragim, and
partnered mercenary contacts uncover that the PAOC is building a massive space station with UN
funding. Upon further investigation, this space station is actually a superweapon capable of creating
massive geostorms, which the PAOC plans to use to move Ash concentrations from the North into other
parts of the planet. Successful use of this weapon will result in hundreds of thousands of casualties,
leveling complete cities. This revelation results in a massive assault on PAOC facilities all over the planet
by many different factions, kicking off what becomes known as the PAOC/Ibragim Civil War. Gaia
sacrifices herself to save countless lives on ABOL, detonating the space station with a man-portable nuke
as it safely reaches orbit. As the PAOC superweapon leaves the ground, it activates prematurely,
reducing its effects but still killing thousands before Gaia manages to destroy the station.
2083 - In the following years, several factions scramble to take PAOC territory, equipment, and
technology for themselves as PAOC remnants are hunted and destroyed. The UN pleads ignorance to
the development of the superweapon, insisting they invested in an exploratory star ship. Nevertheless,
the UN capitalizes on the power vacuum to take valuable territory and resources while covertly housing
escaped PAOC royalty and command on their space station at the top of the elevator. The UN takes San
Christo, Sabra’s base of operations, in an effort to control the food production on ABOL.
2084 - A new alliance out of the war effort emerges. The Headless, led by James Vasquez, Mary, and a
council of represented factions, govern a confederation of independent cities and factions, organizing
when needed to coordinate trade and war. They manage an uneasy stalemate bordering on cold war
with the UN.
2085 - The UN and its allied factions consolidate into The Authority to manage gains made and solidify
control over new populaces. The Authority mandates Martial Law in its new territories, citing the
emergence of the anarchic terrorist nation, the Headless.
2103 - The Chimera, a religiously fanatical faction obsessed with technological perfection of humanity,
descends from their moon and begins an assault on Fort Hope at the base of the space elevator.
2104 - Task Force Boone drops an EMP device in the atmosphere of ABOL and creates a planetary
blackout.

The Headless
In the early years of colonization, UN cities developed at breakneck pace as nearly the entire
population was put to work developing infrastructure. Ship hulls were repurposed into skyscrapers,
making steel readily available for rapid development. During the early few years of near universal
employment, few had the time or energy at the end of a long shift to question the UN’s rule. However,
after two short years, Ethron reached an “acceptable” level of development to the dismay of the
population. While UN buildings, corporate headquarters, and military installations hosted reinforced
steel, bulletproof plexiglass, and luxury furnishings, the average person was left with the hastily erected
prefab stacked megabuildings that were supposed to be temporary dwellings during infrastructure
development.
In addition to this initial shock, unemployment skyrocketed as the UN announced the
termination of the infrastructure development program. Most had no choice but to enroll in the UN’s
federal contract program, signing up for a number of years first before being assessed and assigned to
jobs based on aptitude. This led to many being conscripted into the Armed Forces of the UN under
threat of imprisonment. Those who valued their freedom more than guaranteed hot chow every night
turned to whatever jobs they could find, as most corporations had special employment deals to
disproportionately or almost exclusively hire UN Federal Contractees. Citizens who still refused to live
under the thumb of the UN were often denied white collar employment, forcing them into the service
industry for independent employment to make an honest living. For those with some skills and some
smarts who dislike the UN, few choices remain but all manner of illegal work.
In 2073 the emergence of the ash storms cut off the UN supply network, forcing many to turn to
cartels like Sabra for food and water. As UN cities buckled and rations grew scarce, many began to turn
to private farming and smuggled goods against the UN’s wishes, legitimizing widespread mercenary
work like protecting farms and supply convoys with the introduction of the Impisi civil defense social
network. As mercenary work raiding and protecting supplies became a way of life, the bored citizens of
the protected cities began betting on the outcomes of these jobs. This betting game became known as
the Killwager. Betting on your job can make you rich overnight, but too big a pot likely means getting
backstabbed by a third party lying in wait.
By 2077, anti-UN sentiment reached a climax as the forced resettlements and martial law of the
Service, Settlement, and Security Act (SSSA) of 2074 reached Ethron. Citizens organize and train in
secret, culminating in a massive protest surrounding the UN’s FOB Hope at the base of the space
elevator. After a UN warning shot hits a girl in a yellow dress, armed protesters storm the base as the
UN jumps to secure the space elevator. The Battle of Ethron lasts for days, and while the UN successfully
enforces most of the resettlements, the group known as IRAFEL announces that it has broken the
illusion of UN planetary control, and that the tyranny of the UN will be killed from ABOL.
In 2082, the PAOC failed to launch its “Wind of God'' superweapon into ABOL’s atmosphere due
to a bold and costly assault of the launch facility by a joint task force of Irafel, Impisi, Ibragim, Sabra, and
Jackal Team operatives. This began the Ibragim Civil War, in which most of the population of ABOL
rallied against the exposed PAOC attempt to kill hundreds of thousands with a WMD, and a task force of
interested factions systematically hunted down pockets of PAOC opposition. In the ensuing chaos, the
UN used the power vacuum to seize valuable terrain and cities formerly belonging to the PAOC.
However, their greed didn’t stop against universally agreed upon threats, culminating in the UN’s
seizure of San Christo from the Sabra Cartel in 2082. This stab in the back by the UN was highly
publicized and drove many independent colonies to James Vasquez for help, as they feared a similar fate
for their farms and families. Using the renewed public distrust of the UN, the remnants of Irafel, Impisi,
Sabra, Jackal Team, and other partnered organizations and corporations created “the Headless” mutual
security coalition in 2084.
The Headless coalition promises a favorable alternative to the incredibly despotic and heavy-
handed Authority to many on ABOL. Led by James Vasquez, Mary, and a council of represented factions,
The Headless govern a confederation of independent cities and factions, organizing when needed to
coordinate trade and war. They manage an uneasy stalemate bordering on cold war with the UN.
Although sometimes regional governors or corporations hold too much power in a more anarchic
society, the Jackals keep everyone from bandit to rogue corporate CEO from oppressing the weak and
innocent.
The Authority
What was once known as the United Nations ABOL, the Authority of Humanity’s progression
into socialized oligarchy in 2085 began with the creation of the Republic of United Nations on Earth in
2029. As wars and nuclear fallout created a massive hostage crisis, European nations buckled under the
weight of untold immigration numbers. To stop overwhelming riots in the streets, Germany, France,
Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands call a voluntary UN vote to unite any willing country into a single
centralized republic governed by the UN. A surprising number of countries agree, with more countries
joining after the swelling UN Army manages to put out some of the larger fires in Europe. The UN is soon
established as its own global superpower.
After the US discovers ABOL in 2030 and pitches the LEAP (Leaving Earth Program) to the UN,
the United Nations begins the “Hope” PR campaign which becomes the largest information operation in
history to encourage not only that people should want to colonize ABOL, but that the UN should govern
all colonization operations. In 2032, these efforts culminated in the LEAP Act, a political power play in
which the UN and PAOC (Pan Arab Oil Corporation) landed first on ABOL to “develop infrastructure”
with a 2 year buffer for follow on ships. Additionally, all ships not in the “First Wave” must individually
negotiate contracts with the UN to land on ABOL.
During the journey of the First Wave, the UN fleet and their flagship the Hope openly threatened
the other ships and illegally brought heavy weapons to ABOL to force compliance of the LEAP Act. Upon
arrival to ABOL in 2070, several Russian vessels fire upon the Hope but ultimately stand little chance
against the combined might of the UN and PAOC fleets. The UN and PAOC land in the massive Cenriv I
crater, establishing the capital city of Ethron and beginning infrastructure and mining projects. In 2072
once the 2 year LEAP grace period lands, the UN betrays the nationally aligned ships and launches a
massive nuclear strike into space, crippling the vast majority of the national ships instantly. While a few
ships break through, they are quickly hunted down or lost. No Earth nations other than the UN establish
cities on ABOL, and of the 250,000 who left Earth in the First Wave, less than 100,000 reach the planet’s
surface.
In the coming years, lethal falling ship debris and mysterious ash storms combined with growing
pains strain the young planetary government, and people start to realize that the UN values control and
power more than the lives of its people. The UN struggled to feed and supply more isolated settlements
and cities during harsh storms, and refused to support businesses and factions that could potentially
rival their own. A tightening grip only allowed for more resistance to slip through, allowing the Impisi
civil defense militia and Sabra Cartel to run supplies across the dangerous badlands from city to city,
gaining fame and notoriety. These groups even defended private farms and settlements from UN forces
“reappropriating” valuable food, water, and resources. UN forces grew frustrated and stretched thin as
insurgent supply raids gained popularity in the “Killwager,” which many “terrorist” groups used to fund
their operations.
In an effort to better control and consolidate new resources emerging from successful
terraforming efforts, the UN issued the Service, Settlement, and Security Act of 2074. The SSSA
redistributes land in its major cities based on a “meritocracy” decided by the UN. The redistribution
openly favors the wealthy and those on the payroll of the UN, and leaves the average citizen living in
cramped and easily controlled megabuildings. Citizens have 3 years to comply with the new restrictions.
Once the SSSA grace period ends, the UN is met with massive resistance threatening even the space
elevator and Fort Hope, leading to a massive firefight between the UN and insurgents across the streets
of Ethron. This riot known as the “Yellow Revolution” is claimed by the group Irafel, who vows to tear
down the UN and stop its reign of tyranny on ABOL.
The UN and the PAOC’s security wing, Ibragim, hunt down Irafel terrorists for years, and are able
to sustain large-scale counterinsurgency operations once the Second Wave of ships reaches ABOL in
2080, bringing the paramilitary force Harlow Kinetic Solutions into the fold, beginning the Second
Landing War. However, in 2082, when the PAOC attempts to launch their “Wind of God” superweapon,
the UN donates some forces to the task force countering the launch for PR purposes with the covert
mission of recovering valuable data on the technology and schematics used to build the superweapon.
In the following PAOC/Ibragim Civil War, the UN used the power vacuum to seize resources and cities
like New Damascus and San Christo, while quietly sheltering remnants from the PAOC for their own
purposes.
After witnessing James Vasquez do the unthinkable by uniting the frontier factions into the
Headless, the UN decides it must consolidate the State powers and corporations into a centralized social
oligarchy to more directly control the people and resources in its territory. The Great Authority Act of
2085 establishes the Authority of Humanity as an idealistic utopian vision preaching unity and further
colonization of the galaxy at the dark price of near total government control and reliance. The Authority
maintains an uneasy peace bordering on cold war with the Headless, but bides its time until it can
perfect and grow the United Guards Infantry army necessary for planetary domination and beyond.
Chimera
Chimera has its birth in one of the various extremist splinter factions of the Ibragim civil war
fleeing to the lurking force of Manticor hanging like a well muscled spider over Abol. Religious fanatics,
they were met with open arms by the Chechnya forces of Manticor who were quick to spread the
advanced technology they brought with them.
This Ibragim group preached a synthesis of technology and biology, striving to elevate themselves to the
pinnacle of what humanity had to offer, and Manticor was eager to integrate these new weapons into
their armory. The zealots and converts quickly became the driving voice behind a coalition that the
members began to refer to as “ Химера” or Chimera.
While Manticor and her elite Borz group had always prided themselves on physical strength, the gifts
from their new allies allowed them to take this to the next level. Layers of genehanced musculature
were clad in layer upon layer of composite armor, and bionic limbs, once only seen among a rare few
strike times, were now commonplace. However, unlike previous Ibragim augmetics, or those seen
amongst The Authority, which blend both form and function, Chimera bionics are selected for efficiency
and utility.
Many ‘Manticor’ actions, including some of the famed ‘Killwagers’ that occurred in the years leading up
to the assault on Fort Hope in 2103 were actually Chimera backed dry run and training operations.
Ostensibly to help grow Manticor influence on Abol, these missions also helped to ensure that there was
an experienced core of warriors when Chimera stepped from the shadows. Many of these veterans are
part of the Borz group, who are the right arm of Chimera, and are the combatants most often seen
fighting on Abol.
Manticor Borz
The Manticor Borz force are the right arm of Chimera. These warriors pride themselves on
physical strength, and their combat tactics mirror this. Implacable in their attack, layers of ballistic armor
let the soldiers of the Manticor Borz Force shrug off hits that would incapacitate any other force. When
a Manticor Cyka Suite marches towards you, heavy machine gun blazing, there is little that can stand in
their way. Borz has truly taken to open warfare, their forces seen striking targets all over the planet,
backed by black and red painted dusters. Practical and methodical, Manticor Borz may not be flashy, but
they’ll put you in the ground nonetheless.
ABOL’s Discovery
A crowd of one thousand will present one thousand different answers as to why they left Earth:
work, overcrowding, war, life, children, expectations, death. But the mainline narrative is much simpler:
the “death” of the planet.
Pollution, population, destruction, and resources were the official primary concerns of the
United Nations missions and what was flashed across millions of screens every day. This alongside races
to 0 emissions and energy independence created a global race to the bottom for most nations energy
and power needs. This dropoff created massive issues in both resource management, food, and basic
needs.
At first the closest system to Earth’s own solar system, Proxima Centauri, was written off. A few
dead rocks circling a star and a gas giant at outer edges of the system. Early imagery from the Hubble
space telescope in the late 20th century was interesting to professionals and hobbyists, but forgettable
to the average person. However, in 2022 the world of Astronomy was jolted by a Massive Radio Burst,
or MRB, originating from this “dead system”. Detected by the Very Large Array (VLA), this enigmatic
signal captivated the NASA team who discovered it. Consisting of Astronomers Alana Black and Oliver
Lenwood, the NASA team would work on pinpointing the exact source of the MBR. Less than a year later
their search would bear fruit, a previously unknown Exoplanet orbiting within Proxima Centauri’s
“habitable zone”. The newly discovered planet was named ABOL, a combination of the two’s initials, as
tribute for their work.
Striking while the iron’s hot, the pair of astronomers continued their work on deciphering the
Massive Radio Burst. Sadly, both Alana and Oliver would die in a tragic helicopter crash only a month
after their initial planetary announcement. Study of the MBR was slowly swept aside by more pressing
events at the time. To this day, the true source and purpose of this message remains unknown; A cosmic
enigma.
After almost a decade and with the success of the first manned colony on Mars, NASA turned their focus
back to unraveling the mysteries of ABOL. The journey to these answers would begin in 2030 with the
launch of the Endeavor Mission. This ambitious undertaking saw the deployment of interstellar micro-
probes flung toward ABOL, utilizing the remarkable power of NASA's Orbital Laser Propulsion Array
(OLPA) station. These micro probes, numbering in the thousands, traversed the cosmic void, bound for
Proxima Centauri. Their small stature combined with the power of the OLPA would allow them to make
the trip in only 10 years, but it would be decades before the data they collected made its way back
home. Many believed it was time humanity and Earth didn’t have so, behind closed doors, the next
steps toward ABOL moved forward.
By 2032, the United Nations had thrown its hat in the ring with the Trailblazer Missions.
Trailblazer 1, the first launch, sent a satellite and lander duo toward ABOL. This pair was tasked with
acting as a pioneering scout for the manned Trailblazer 2 mission, which successfully launched in 2035. A
multinational effort, Trailblazer 2 was tasked with surveying the surface of ABOL as a precursor to the
ambitious LEAP endeavors, aimed at making ABOL humanity’s next home among the stars. However,
history would remember the Trailblazer 2 pioneers for a much darker reason… Their disappearance into
the cosmic abyss. Decades later, in 2070, as the first wave of LEAP ships entered ABOLs orbit, the
beacons and landing sites of these missions would be detected. However, the men and women who
ventured to ABOL as Trailblazers would never be heard from again, leaving a haunting mystery that
lingers in the annals of space exploration and casts yet another stain on the Foundation of Humanity’s
new home.
Life on ABOL
ABOL, a world defined by its extreme nature, presents a challenging environment despite 40
years of terraforming efforts. The planet's vast expanse predominantly resembles a Low Oxygen, or
“Low2”, terrain akin to high altitudes. While humans and unmodified livestock can survive on the
savanna-like plains or ancient ocean turned vast desert, their abilities are significantly reduced.
Venturing higher without portable oxygen poses an imminent threat, potentially leading to death within
minutes. Consequently, the quest for habitability on ABOL has shifted underground, where caves,
craters, canyons, and valleys harbor pockets of breathable atmosphere. Some even speculate about a
mysterious source, theorizing that oxygen emanates from the planet's depths—a belief yet to be
substantiated by evidence.
On ABOL, water isn't just a resource; it's a precious commodity. Beyond its limited water
systems, the planet's surface is predominantly dry and arid. However, scattered ice sheets on the Poles,
small glaciers in ABOL's mountain ranges, and now terraformers sustain the five Great Rivers, which
dwarf Earth's largest rivers. These majestic waterways, swelling to astonishing widths of up to 60 miles
during the wet season, eventually branch into thousands of tributaries, disappearing beneath the
surface through various caves and craters. Interestingly, much like its atmosphere, the majority of
ABOL's water is hidden underground. Among the most prized locations are the Cenriv Complex's three
major craters, renowned for housing some of the planet's most significant water reserves, rendering
them immensely valuable.
The climate of ABOL is a testament to its extreme nature, defined by rapid and intense seasonal
shifts driven by various factors. Its high axial tilt and the significant wobble induced by the twin moons,
Castor and Pollux, contribute to this volatility. The planet experiences four distinct seasons: the dry
Spring and Summer, contrasted by the wet Fall and Winter. These seasons follow two distinct cycles: the
relatively milder Castor Phase and the more severe Pollux Phase. During the Pollux Phase, the
atmosphere undergoes turbulent superstorms in the North, resulting in the stirring up of copious
amounts of Dust and Ash. This phenomenon leads to months-long periods of sunlight blockage in the
Southern regions. However, despite the darkness, the presence of artificial lights in the southern skies
aids human activity during the daytime, creating a subdued yet functional low-light environment. Given
that most population centers are nestled within craters or subterranean spaces, the average lighting
conditions fall significantly below acceptable standards. Consequently, major installations of lighting
systems and reflective materials have become the norm to conserve power and maintain functional
illumination levels in these habitats.
ABOL, with an average day length of 20 hours, completes an orbit around Proxima Centauri in 431 Earth
days. Divided into a familiar 12 months this defines its unique year. The planet's distinct Northern and
Southern Hemispheres showcase diverse terrains and climates. ABOL Prime, nestled in the Southern
Hemisphere, contrasts sharply with ABOL Secundus in the North, while the equatorial expanse hosts the
Great Plateau within the sprawling Frontier Desert. Each landmass boasts unique geographical features,
weather phenomena, and inherent challenges, collectively shaping ABOL's vibrant and dynamic
environment.
The Southern region stands as the focal point of human settlement on ABOL, boasting a more temperate
climate compared to its Northern counterpart. ABOL Prime, the largest continent, is primarily
characterized by the dominating Cenriv Crater Complex composed of three major craters and numerous
minor ones that intricately scatter the vast savanna-like plains of the Sea of Grass . Cenriv 1, the initial
human landing spot and largest of the craters, now hosts the bustling megalopolis of Ethron and its
sprawling Scatter. Despite the rugged craters and valleys, ABOL Prime's relatively level terrain allows for
some settlement beyond these features. Over the past 40 years, a myriad of independent and state-
owned settlements have sprouted across the Sea of Grass, spreading in all directions. Moving northwest
from the CCC leads to the formidable Gran Taźon Mountains and the picturesque San Christo Valley with
some of the most fertile land on ABOL. This makes San Christo pivotal for Authority food production.
Further afield lies the expansive Primus Shelf and the endless expanse of the Frontier Desert, marking
the remnants of ABOL's ancient ocean, vanished in a cataclysmic event millions of years ago. This
desolate expanse is a truly untamed Frontier, with little water and high temperatures on the regular.
To the northeast of ABOL Prime lies the Great Plateau, nestled deep within the Frontier Desert and
positioned almost squarely on the Equator. As the smallest among the three continents, this region is
characterized by its desolate landscape, dominated by rugged cliffs and steep mountain ranges.
Towering at its heart is "the Thorn," ABOL's loftiest peak, soaring a staggering 17 miles high, dwarfing
even the renowned Olympus Mons of Mars by a remarkable 3-mile margin. Despite not breaching the
confines of space, the Thorn's summit exists within a vacuum due to the planet's thin atmosphere. The
Great Plateau remains largely uninhabited, with scant settlements clustered primarily along the base of
its cliffs at the periphery of the Frontier Desert. Whispers abound of an expansive Irafel stronghold
clandestinely carved within the very core of the Thorn during the upheaval of the Yellow Insurgency,
intricately woven throughout the colossal monolith, purportedly extending to its airless peak.
Speculation persists that these subterranean vaults have recently fallen under the control of the
enigmatic Headless forces, yet such assertions remain unverified.
ABOL's Northern Hemisphere, notably ABOL Secundus, stands as a menacing expanse—referred to by
many as a “dark, jagged, Low2 hellscape” where only the foolhardy dare to venture. Accessing this
continent is a monumental challenge, due in part to the formidable Mokhri Pat, also known as the “Ash
Wall''; a colossal mountain range that borders ABOL Secundus, extending even into the Frontier Desert.
But the real terror lies beyond these peaks—a viscous, acidic Ashlike substance, believed to emanate
continuously from a Super Volcano at the North Pole, capable of corroding fabric, flesh, and even thin
metals. In winter, fierce winds sweep vast amounts of this treacherous ash over the Mokhri Pat,
scattering it onto ABOL Prime and the Frontier Desert. Ironically, this 'Hellscape' teems with the richest
resources on the planet, chiefly Abolite, an exceedingly energy-dense mineral exclusive to ABOL and
highly coveted for powering cutting-edge technologies. Following the cataclysmic 'Ashfall' event, in
which members o——— //<THIS INFORMATION IS CLASSIFIED AND HAS BEEN REDACTED—THIS
TRANSGRESSION HAS BEEN LOGGED BY UN-AI GRENDEL>\\———ny to believe Abolite was lost forever,
recent expeditions by PKGH in the more secure Frontier Desert have unearthed substantial Abolite
deposits in the foothills of Mokhri Pat. These discoveries might mark the definitive end of any
aspirations for settlement or ventures on ABOL Secundus, an unforgiving territory that has time and
again proven too perilous for human habitation.
ABOL’s limited water systems and “low2” zones make it especially challenging to settle outside of
Terraformed locations, such as Ethron, San Christo, and other major cities. This doesn’t mean it’s
impossible. Many homesteads and frontier towns have popped up in the Grass Sea and Frontier Desert
in the almost half century Humanity has called ABOL home. Even some livestock farms have begun to
appear in the larger settlements.
Many staple livestock animals and their genetic templates made the journey to ABOL. Cows, chickens,
goats, sheep, pigs, and fish all made the trip. The most prevalent livestock are fish and insects due to the
limited space needed to farm them. In the beginning larger livestock animals were limited to farms and
ranches within Ethron and the San Christo Valley, with both offering ideal amounts of O2, water, and
space. It wasn’t until the collapse of the Sabra Cartel in [] and a daring heist of GMO templates by IMPISI
during the pacification of San Christo that settlers in the Grass Sea and its vast plains were given the
capability to keep their own livestock. Still, for the majority of the population of ABOL the products
Livestock provide are saved for the wealthy or well off.
Along with Livestock animals, a number of other domesticated and non-domesticated animals have
made their way to ABOL. Pets like dogs and cats are somewhat common in the more well off parts of
Ethron.
War on ABOL
In the future, warfare has transformed from vast, sprawling conflicts to razor-sharp, pinpoint
skirmishes. Massive armies are antiquated, replaced by compact units of highly specialized soldiers, each
trained to execute with surgical precision. Artificial intelligence combat units have emerged, blending
seamlessly with human operatives and capable of instantaneously adjusting tactics in the ever-evolving
theater of war. The skies buzz not with aircraft, but with swarms of micro drones, capable of
reconnaissance and strike missions with minimal collateral damage. This new age of combat emphasizes
stealth, efficiency, and decisiveness, where a single move can change the tide of an entire conflict,
making war a game of chess, rather than brute force.
Inorganics
Inorganic combat units, often crafted from advanced alloys and driven by intricate
programming, have revolutionized modern battlefields. No longer restrained by human limitations of
fatigue or fear, these units operate in environments deemed too treacherous or lethal for biological
soldiers. With adaptive camouflage and near-silent operational modes, they excel in reconnaissance,
infiltrating enemy lines to relay critical data back to command. Some are engineered for heavy assault,
bearing weaponry beyond human capacity, while others are designed for swift, agile engagements,
neutralizing targets before they even register a threat. Integrated with state-of-the-art sensors and AI-
driven decision matrices, these units can coordinate with minimal human intervention, reacting in real-
time to evolving combat scenarios. As an integral part of the modern military apparatus, inorganic units
augment human forces, ensuring tactical superiority and minimizing casualties in the grim theater of
war.
Dusters
The Mobile Infantry Direct Action System (MIDAS), revered commonly as a “Duster,” is a large
bipedal piloted weapons platform which rules the battlefield at the time of BLKOUT. Originally
developed as a joint effort by General Dynamics, Raytheon Technologies, and Lockeed Martin to provide
a highly agile solution to urban warfare for the US military, these weapon systems were quickly adopted
by not only the conventional military, but also USSOCOM as they began to modify these platforms with
different weapons and even manipulators to dominate the multi domain battlefield. Due to the nature
of military industrial contractors, blueprints and schematics for the MIDAS were quickly sold to the
highest bidder after the Second Landing. While it did take several years to create and perfect the
manufacturing process for these beasts, they quickly changed how factions fought in an urban
environment.

Vignettes
“Used to be, UN Peacekeepers were on every corner, helping stabilize our new colony. Not anymore.
Now we have masked and armored South African mercenaries kicking in doors and subjugating anyone
who speaks out against them.
What is going on? What happened to the Authority that promised a better ABOL? They claim that forces
of the Headless and Chimera are the biggest threat, but I’ve never seen them. What’re they hiding? The
Authority has us all living in fear, and that's just the way Harlow wants it!”
“Authority Officials can confirm that the shootout that occurred in the sprawl this afternoon was
between Harlow forces and those of the insurgent group, The Headless. Preliminary casualty numbers
estimate that 30+ civilians were killed or injured in the crossfire, with unconfirmed reports that Harlow
forces fired indiscriminately into a crowded food vendor complex. Authority spokesman Julius
Abernathy denied any such reports stating that; ‘Harlow forces were forced to engage a group of
subversives who were planning an attack on a local food processing plant. All injuries and death can be
placed at the hands of these insurgents who had no regard for innocent lives.’
When pressed about footage that showed the Authority forces firing through the crowd, Abernathy
decried the evidence as ‘Fabricated’ and ‘Clearly created in an editing suite to smear the reputation of
the upstanding Harlow and Authority forces.’”
