INT.

HOSPITAL ROOM - EARLY MORNING

CHLOE tries sitting up on her hospital bed, eventually
falling right on her back.

NURSE AMY
Hold on, hun, you're alright. Can
you hear me? Breathe.
Chloe takes a moment to catch her breath.
NURSE AMY (CONT'D)
It's okay. You're okay. Just
breathe for me, alright? You've
been resting for some time, I can't
have you getting up all of a
sudden. Do you know where you are?
CHLOE
Huh?
NURSE AMY
Do you know where we are right now?
CHLOE
Um... no.
NURSE AMY
That's alright. You're at the
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Do you
know which city that's in?
Chloe takes a second to respond.
CHLOE
No, I forgot. I'm sorry.

NURSE AMY CHLOE (CONT'D)

That's okay. You don't need /Why am I at a hospital?
to apologize. You're in Los
Angeles. We've been/
NURSE AMY (CONT'D)
I'm gonna go get the doctor. He can
answer all your questions just wait
right here, okay?
CHLOE
Okay. Thank you.
NURSE AMY
You're very welcome, hun.
2.

The Nurse leaves the room as Chloe tries to sit up again,

falling once again. She places her hands on her head in
frustration. DOCTOR GERBER knocks on the door and walks in.
DOCTOR GERBER
Hello.
CHLOE
Hi.
The doctor reaches forward to shake her hand.
DOCTOR GERBER
It's very nice to meet you. I heard
you had some questions so I'm here
to just help with anything you may
need.
CHLOE
Ok.
DOCTOR GERBER
It's great to meet you. I'm Doctor
Gerber like the baby food.
CHLOE
Like the what?
DOCTOR GERBER
Don't worry about it. How are you
feeling?
CHLOE
Okay, I guess.
DOCTOR GERBER
Right. I understand this isn't the
best circumstance, and I apologize
for that. If you don't mind me
asking, what do you remember?
CHLOE
What do you mean what do I
remember?
NURSE AMY
Well, you're in a hospital in L.A.,
right? What else do you remember?
Chloe scratches her head, struggling to come up with a single
answer.
DOCTOR GERBER
What's your name?
3.

Chloe sits there in silence, realizing she can't even

remember her own name.
DOCTOR GERBER (CONT'D)
It's okay. I'm trying to help you,
Chloe. You're okay.
Chloe's eyes almost sparkle, speechless to a name she's a
stranger to.
DOCTOR GERBER (CONT'D)
You were in an accident a little
while ago. You're fine now. But we
think you lost a bit of your
memory.
CHLOE
Chloe. I really like that name.
DOCTOR GERBER
So do I. It's my niece's name.
CHLOE
What was the accident? I seem okay.
Physically at least.
DOCTOR GERBER
I wasn't sure until we re-opened
your files. You were in a car
accident.
CHLOE
What do you mean you weren't sure?
They didn't tell you? Didn't you
even see when I got here?
DOCTOR GERBER
They did now. Chloe, you were with
a group of friends.
CHLOE
Are any of them here now?
DOCTOR GERBER
No. Another nurse handled your case
before me until he retired. They
told me about you but I wasn't sure
I'd be able to speak with you. You
were put in a coma, Chloe.
CHLOE
How long?
The doctor hesitates to tell Chloe just yet.
4.

DOCTOR GERBER
Six years.
Chloe tries controlling her breath, struggling to take this
all in.
CHLOE
Jesus Christ. You said I was with
friends, right? Shouldn't someone
tell them? Do my parents know I'm
awake?
Chloe hopes to God what she is thinking isn't true.
CHLOE (CONT'D)
Are they alive?
DOCTOR GERBER
No.
Chloe lets out a loud GASP.
DOCTOR GERBER
You're okay Chloe. I need you to relax.
CHLOE
Jesus Christ. Oh my fucking god. Oh
my god.
CHLOE (CONT'D)
Did I know that? Did "before" me
know that?
DOCTOR GERBER
No. You didn't.
CHLOE
How am I okay? What happened?
DOCTOR GERBER
You were brought in on a Saturday
night. ALcohol was involved.
Apparently you ran a red light. I
need to double-check the files we
have on you if you just give me a
moment. Oh, and your bag was
dropped off here and it hasn't been
touched since. They really wanted
me to tell you that. You can pick
it up at the front desk.
CHLOE
Can I leave?
5.

DOCTOR GERBER
Not quite yet.
Chloe anxiously gets up from the hospital bed, with sounds of
cans falling and desks being pushed around.
DOCTOR GERBER (CONT'D)
Chloe, I need you back here for
just one second. You're not fit to
walk on your own yet. Chloe.
Chloe falls onto the ground, defeated. The doctor helps her
back onto the hospital bed.
DOCTOR GERBER (CONT'D)
I get that you wanna leave. Trust
me, I want you out of here as soon
as possible for your own sake. But
your body needs time to adjust.
CHLOE
I don't know where I am. I don't
know where I am.
DOCTOR GERBER
Chloe, we need you to stay here for
a couple of weeks. Until then, I
want to tell you what happened.
Chloe's eyes meet Doctor Gerber's.

EXT. HOSPITAL BUILDING - 3 WEEKS LATER

A lifeless Chloe walks out of the hospital scrambling through
her bag, pulling out a note that reads:
"My address and number are below. Get back to us soon - Ally

EXT. APARTMENT BUILDING - EVENING

Chloe knocks on the door but no one responds. She tries once
more and still no answer. She turns the door handle to find
it unlocked.

INT. CHLOE'S APARTMENT - FRONT DOOR

Chloe opens the door to an empty apartment. She pulls out the
paper once again and calls the number.
6.

INT. KAIYA AND CHRISTINE'S APARTMENT

A hand reaches for a phone. The name on the phone says
"CHLOE."

CHRISTINE
Oh my god, Kaiya.
KAIYA (O.S.)
What?
CHRISTINE
Just come here.

INT. CHLOE'S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM

Chloe is sitting on her couch, waiting for someone to pick
up. No response.
She puts the phone back down on the table and sits in her
living room in silence. She stares at the empty white wall in
front of her. Nothing to do. Nowhere to go. Not a soul in the
world she even knows. It's at this moment Chloe realizes how
lonely she really is.

INT. DELI - EARLY AFTERNOON

The bell at the top of the door rings as Chloe walks into an
empty deli. DAVID, the 40-year-old chubby owner of the deli
walks to the register from the back room, wiping the back of
his head with a towel.
DAVID
Hi, what can I get for you?
CHLOE
Hi, I'm Chloe.
DAVID
Hi, I'm David. What can I get for
you?
CHLOE
Oh, no I meant I'm the Chloe here
for the job interview.
DAVID
Chloe, I'm sorry about that.
David exits the register.
7.

DAVID (CONT'D)
We're about to open up so let's go
outside.
CHLOE
Oh. Are you usually busy this
early?
DAVID
So where'd you move from?
CHLOE
I didn't move.

EXT. DELI
DAVID
There's no way you've been living
here without knowing one of the
greatest delis in all of Los
Angeles.
CHLOE
I have been here, technically. It's
a long story.
Chloe and David sit down at a table right outside the deli.
David starts writing down on his notepad without saying a
word.
CHLOE (CONT'D)
You're already taking notes?
DAVID
You're already asking questions?
CHLOE
What's your name?
DAVID
Boss.
CHLOE
Does that mean I'm hired?
David doesn't laugh.
DAVID
Can you describe a moment you had
to handle a difficult customer and
how did you manage the situation?
8.

CHLOE
Bad witty jokes...
David stares at Chloe, still unamused.
DAVID
In a previous experience, how have
you ensured all food items are
fresh for consumption?
CHLOE
How would that even be possible?
Would I have to try every single
ingredient and make sure it tastes
fine? Because I feel like that
could bring like a serious lawsuit
or something.
DAVID
What is your approach to learning
about new products in the deli
department? I'll answer that,
acting like you know more than
everybody else. Have you worked at
a deli before? Or even any type of
restaurant?
CHLOE
Ummmmmmm, not, not...no.
DAVID CHLOE (CONT'D)
Then what makes you think you /greatest deli in all of Los
could get a job at the/ Angeles? I don't know. But I
figured it was worth a shot.
Chloe leans forward on the table.
CHLOE (CONT'D)
Listen, I said I didn't move here,
and that is true technically. It's
a long story. But I'm in a similar
situation. I feel new here. I won't
be able to afford to live much
longer if I don't get some kind of
job. So I kind've need this.
DAVID
Then why not work at a gas station
or somewhere else?
CHLOE
Because this is the greatest deli
in all of Los Angeles.
9.

David thinks to himself for a moment and gives a nod of

approval.
DAVID
Okay, you start on Wednesday.
CHLOE
Huh? You're hiring me?
DAVID
Uh huh.
David gets up from his chair.
CHLOE
Why though?
DAVID
We're short-staffed. You had the
job from the start. I just wanted
to see what type of person I'm
gonna work with.
Chloe chuckles.
CHLOE
Hey, didn't you say earlier your
name was David?
DAVID
No.
David walks back into the deli.
Chloe gets a phone call from an unknown number.
CHLOE
Hello?
CHRISTINE
Oh my god.
CHLOE
Who is this?
CHRISTINE
Chloe...
CHLOE
Shit, your name's Chloe?
CHRISTINE
No, I uh... is it really you?
10.

CHLOE
It's really me. Is it really you?
CHRISTINE
So you got the note?
CHLOE
That was you?
(beat)
CHRISTINE
Yeah. Listen, would you wanna come
over? If you're not busy?
CHLOE
I think I can fit it into my
schedule.

EXT. CHRISTINE AND KAIYA'S FRONT DOOR

Chloe walks back and forth, hesitant to knock on the door.
Although tempted, she starts walking away. Christine opens
the door.
CHLOE
Yeah?
CHRISTINE
Why are you saying "yeah" like I
showed up on your doorstep at 8 in
the morning?
CHLOE
Oh, sorry I-
CHRISTINE
What do you need?
CHLOE
I'm sorry. How'd you know I was out
here?
CHRISTINE
If a white woman was standing on
your front porch for five minutes,
wouldn't you?
CHLOE
Yeah, well sorry for bothering you.
CHRISTINE
You didn't answer me. What did you
need?
11.

CHLOE
I'm sorry?
CHRISTINE
You seemed scared shitless at the
thought of knocking on my door so
it must be important. And stop
saying sorry.
CHLOE
How'd you-
CHRISTINE
I saw you panicking from my window.
What do you need?

CHLOE
Oh, yeah it's probably nothing.
I've been out of town for... a
while and thought I had a friend
who lived here. But you could go
back inside I'm sorry for bothering
you.
CHRISTINE
What's the name?
CHLOE
What?
CHRISTINE
(over enunciating)
What was the friend's name?
Chloe pulls out the same crumbled letter and hands it to her.
CHRISTINE (CONT'D)
Why does it smell like a hospital?
CHLOE
Because its been in one for seven
years.
Christine's eyes widen in disbelief.
CHLOE (CONT'D)
Uhh... Ally? Are you Ally?
CHRISTINE
Come on in.
12.

INT. CHRISTINE AND KAIYA'S APARTMENT

CHLOE
I'm sorry to bother you, I won't
take too much of your time. I was
just wondering if this letter meant
anything to you? Like do you know
who wrote it? Where they are?
Anything?
CHRISTINE
Yeah.
CHLOE
Oh, ok. So did you write it, or...
CHRISTINE
Honey, could you come here for a
second?
CHLOE
Honey? Is honey Ally?
CHRISTINE
Honey's Kaiya.
CHLOE
Oh. And who's Kaiya?
CHRISTINE
Kaiya's my girlfriend.
CHLOE
Oh.
CHRISTINE
Oh?
CHLOE
No, I didn't mean it like that I
just...
KAIYA, a woman in her mid-20's walks down the stairs. Her
hair is tied up in a bun with an all black outfit on.
Chloe reaches to shake her hand.
CHLOE (CONT'D)
Hi Kaiya, nice to meet you.
KAIYA
Yeah, you too. Who are you?
13.

CHRISTINE
Look at the letter she's holding.
CHLOE
Oh yeah, here.
Chloe hands over the letter to Kaiya.
KAIYA
Smells like a hospital.
CHRISTINE
It's been in one. For a long time.
Kaiya looks at Chloe, then the letter, and right back to
Chloe, connecting the dots.
KAIYA
It could've stayed there longer.
CHRISTINE
Kaiya.
Kaiya walks over to the other side of the room.
CHLOE
I'm sorry, did I do something to
offend you? Or...
KAIYA
Something like that.
CHRISTINE
You can take a seat Chloe.
Chloe sits down on the couch while Kaiya sits on the chair
right across from her, staring.
CHLOE
So how'd you guys meet? I mean you
girls. You know what I mean.
KAIYA
Why are you here?
CHLOE
Well, it's a bit difficult to
explain. I was in a coma for... it
doesn't even matter how long.
KAIYA
No, I know that. Why are you here?
14.

CHLOE
I don't... I wanna say I lost
everyone but I don't even remember
having anyone in the first place. I
woke up from the longest nap of my
life with a letter in my hand and
here I am.
CHRISTINE
Call the number in your letter,
Chloe.
Chloe looks at the number and starts dialing.
CHRISTINE (CONT'D)
What does it say below the number,
Chloe?
CHLOE
Call me when you get back.
Christine's phone starts ringing.
CHRISTINE
So why didn't you?
CHLOE
It was the second thing I did.
CHRISTINE
After?
CHLOE
Taking in an entire new world. I
called seventeen times, no one
picked up.
KAIYA
Eighteenth could've been the charm.
CHRISTINE
You were in a coma for the entire
seven years?
CHLOE
Yeah. How do you guys know I was in
a coma.
CHRISTINE
I was there the day that letter was
written. Maybe the coma was a
blessing. I wouldn't want to
remember that day either.
15.

CHLOE
I can see this is a sensitive issue
for you guys so I'm sorry to ask.
But I've been in your house for ten
minutes now and I have no idea who
any of you are. So who are?
CHRISTINE
"Call ne when you get back" was
what your sister wrote.
KAIYA
You really don't remember any of
it?
Chloe shakes her head.
KAIYA (CONT'D)
You took my life.
CHRISTINE
I think we'll be here for a while.
I'll go make some tea.
KAIYA
She was actually just leaving.
CHLOE
I haven't lived too long but I
haven't been treated worse by
anyone else. And I don't even know
who the hell you are So why am I
getting the strangest feeling that
I've done something wrong? You
don't have to be on bad terms with
someone you've barely met. So tell
me, how could I have wronged
someone I just met, to the point
where they aren't even willing to
look at me? What could I have done
so wrong?
Kaiya stands up from her chair, finally making eye contact
again.
KAIYA
You killed my sister you piece of
shit. I can't help but be on bad
terms with you.
CHRISTINE
Sorry, Chloe, you should go now.
16.

In utter disbelief and shock, Chloe walks out the door, with
faint sounds of Christine and Kaiya's conversation.

EXT. CHRISTINE AND KAIYA'S FRONT DOOR

KAIYA (O.S.)
You're apologizing now?
CHRISTINE (O.S.)
She isn't even conscious of what
she did.

INT. CHRISTINE AND KAIYA'S APARTMENT

KAIYA
That doesn't mean she didn't do it.

EXT. CHLOE'S APARTMENT - FRONT DOOR

Chloe tries unlocking her door until the key jams. She tries
to take the key out but it's stuck. She continues shaking the
door handle when the next-door neighbor takes a look outside.
ANDERON
Hi, who are you?
CHLOE
Oh, I live here now.
KAREN ANDERSON
I don't think so. I've never seen
you here before.
CHLOE
I've never seen you here before
either. How do I know you actually
live here?
KAREN ANDERSON
Excuse me? My husband and I moved
into this building 22 years ago.
KELLY WOLL sees them arguing from a distance.
KAREN ANDERSON (CONT'D)
I know every single person who has
ever lived in this apartment
complex.
CHLOE
Well, now you know me.
17.

KAREN ANDERSON
You didn't answer my question. Why
haven't I seen you before?
CHLOE
Well, that's because I just moved
in, Karen.
A beat.
KAREN ANDERSON
How'd you know that was my name?
Kelly hands Chloe her water bottle.
KELLY WOLL
Don't worry Ms. Anderson, she's
with me.
KAREN ANDERSON
Are you sure?
KELLY WOLL
I'm sure.
Kelly unlocks the door.
KELLY WOLL (CONT'D)
Come in.

INT. KELLY'S APARTMENT

KELLY WOLL
Sorry about her. She's a fucking
pain.
CHLOE
Mrs. Anderson? No, she was great.
KELLY WOLL
Ms, not Mrs. No one wants to be
married to that sack of shit.
Probably why she bothers everyone
else.
Chloe reaches to shake Kelly's hand.
CHLOE
I'm Chloe by the way.
KELLY WOLL
Kelly. You're next door.
18.

CHLOE
I'm what?
KELLY WOLL
You were trying to get into my
apartment. Yours is next door.
CHLOE
Shit, I'm sorry. How'd you know?
KELLY WOLL
Because the owner was just
murdered.
Chloe gets a pale look on her face.
KELLY WOLL (CONT'D)
I'm kidding. I just haven't seen
anyone walk in or out of there. Not
even once.
CHLOE
My sister lived there a bit before
me.
KELLY WOLL
Oh shit. Why haven't I seen her
before?
CHLOE
Well by "a bit" I mean six years.
KELLY WOLL
No one's lived there for six years?
CHLOE
No one. But apparently her will
covered the rent for me so there's
that.
KELLY WOLL
Chloe, I'm sorry I don't know what
to say. I wish I could've met her.
CHLOE
Me too.

INT. CHLOE'S APARTMENT - BEDROOM

Chloe lays there on her bed, unable to sleep. She rolls
around while her mind is on what Kaiya said earlier.
19.

INT. DELI - EARLY MORNING

David sweeps the floor when Chloe walks in.
DAVID
Hey Chloe how are you?
CHLOE
Doing great, boss. Ready to get
started.
DAVID
That's what I like to hear, Chlo.
CHLOE (TO HERSELF)
Chlo?
CUT TO:
Chloe is now behind the deli counter as David SLAMS a box
filled with meat right in front of her.
DAVID
No better way to start your day. We
got 10 pounds of meat right here.
You're not religious, right?
CHLOE
No, why?
DAVID
Well, we had a Muslim man working
here. Wasn't comfortable with the
pork so we brought in a Christian
man. Turns out they fast too.
Replaced him with a Jewish man who
couldn't work with the shellfish. I
had an atheist too but he was just
lazy.
CHLOE
You have shellfish in a deli?
DAVID
I have everything.
An awkward beat.
DAVID (CONT'D)
Is there anything I should know
about you? Any allergies? Dietary
or sensitivity restraints?
20.

CHLOE
None.
David slams his notebook shut.
DAVID
Awesome. Good luck.
CHLOE
Thanks.
Chloe stands there, patiently. A man finally walks in.
CHLOE (CONT'D)
Hi, what can I get for you?
NICHOLAS KOALEMOS
You guys got a bathroom?
CHLOE
Do we uhh...
David shakes his head.
CHLOE (CONT'D)
No, we don't have a bathroom,
sorry.
Nicholas walks out of the deli. David sighs and walks out of
the room.

EXT. APARTMENT COMPLEX - PARKING LOT

Chloe walks out of her car towards her apartment. Kelly spots
her from a distance.
KELLY WOLL
Chloe!
CHLOE
Oh, hey. It's... Kelly, right?
KELLY WOLL
Yeah. Yeah, hey listen. I was
having a party this Saturday if you
wanted to come? I mean it's like
three steps away, so...
CHLOE
Yeah sure. Yeah that sounds fun.
KELLY WOLL
Okay cool. I'll see you there.
21.

CHLOE
Cool.
Kelly walks away.

EXT. KELLY'S FRONT DOOR - NIGHT

Chloe waits outside Kelly's front door. She almost knocks on
her door but stops to anxiously fix her baggy sweater.
Kelly opens the door.
CHLOE
Hi.
KELLY WOLL
Hey! The app said the pizza was
here but I guess not. Oh yeah,
sorry. Come in.

INT. KELLY'S APARTMENT

Kelly's apartment is clean. Almost too clean and definitely
too empty for a party.
CHLOE
Oh, sorry am I early or something?
KELLY WOLL
Uh.. yeah. I think everyone else
should be here soon.
CHLOE
Cool. Everyone else like....
KELLY WOLL
Just a couple. Couple people.

CHLOE
Okay cool. Cool.
They have a seat on the couch.
KELLY WOLL
So were you in the area your whole
life, or...
CHLOE
No. No, I uh...just moved.
KELLY WOLL
Where from?
22.

CHLOE
Not...not too far from here. Yeah.
KELLY WOLL
So what do you think of... I don't
know, everything so far?
CHLOE
I don't know. The people are..
kinda crazy. Besides you of course.
Um, yeah besides that there's not
much going on.
KELLY WOLL
But everything going on at the same
time.
CHLOE
Exactly. Exactly.
KELLY WOLL
You got a boyfriend?
CHLOE
A what? No. I...
KELLY WOLL
I'm sorry. That was weird I
shouldn't have asked that, I
apologize.
CHLOE
No, it's okay.
A beat.
CHLOE (CONT'D)
I don't, to answer your question.
Kelly chuckles awkwardly.
KELLY WOLL
Cool. Yeah, same.
CHLOE
You thinking about seeing anyone?
KELLY WOLL
I don't. I guess I'm kind of
figuring my own life out right now.
But if someone worth it, worth my
time comes around, I think I'll...
go for it. I don't know.
23.

Kelly gets up from the couch.

KELLY WOLL (CONT'D)
Fuck, I um... I don't know if I
should..
CHLOE
What?
KELLY WOLL
I don't know if I should tell you
this, or...I don't know. I don't
know.
CHLOE
Tell me what?
KELLY WOLL
You're not early, Chloe. No one's
coming. I just wanted to find an
excuse to see you I guess.
Chloe's eyes widen. She has no idea what to say.
KELLY WOLL (CONT'D)
Wait, you are...gay, right?
CHLOE
No. I mean, I don't know. I don't
think.
KELLY WOLL
I'm sorry. If you wanna leave, I
understand. I'll be honest this is
really out of character for me. I'm
usually the type to sit with my
feelings until I go away. But
something about this tells me that
it won't go away.
Kelly sits back down on the couch. Chloe turns towards her.
CHLOE
I wanna bring you to this spot I
love. I go there all the time. It's
almost like a very much needed step
out of all this chaos.
Kelly sits back, intrigued.
24.
25.

She turns the handle and it's unlocked.

CHLOE (CONT'D) KAREN ANDERSON
Look I'm pretty busy/ /I'm busy too.
CHLOE (CONT'D)
So if you could just leave me the
hell alone that would be great.
KAREN ANDERSON
Excuse me? I won't leave you alone
until you tell me what you're doing
breaking into apartment buildings
and harassing residents.
CHLOE
Oh look the door opened. I guess I
do live here. But it was nice to
meet you. Go fuck yourself, bye.
KAREN ANDERSON
I will call the police.
