Equipment:
· Sterile gown
· Packages of sterile gloves
1.Open the gown. Carefully use
the edges of the paper
to open the packet and expose the
surgical gown.
2. Peel the plastic glove packet
open over the gown and drop the gloves
onto the sterile
gown without touching them.
3. Put on
a surgical mask and eyewear protection.
4. Perform surgical hand scrub
5. Put on sterile gown. Grasp the sterile
gown at the crease near the neck, hold it
away from you, permit it to unfold freely
without touching anything.
6. Put the hands inside the shoulders of
the gown without touching the shoulders
of the gown.
7. Work the hands down the sleeves only
to the beginning of the cuffs.
8. Ask your circulating nurse to grasp the
neck ties without touching the outside of
the gown and pull the gown upward to
cover the neckline of your uniform in front
and back.
9. With the dominant hand, pick up the
opposite glove with the thumb and index
finger handling it through the sleeve.
10. Position the dominant hand palm
upward inside the sleeve. Lay the glove
on the opposite gown cuff, thumb side
down with the glove opening pointed
toward the fingers.
11. Use the nondominant hand to grasp
the cuff of the glove through the gown
cuff and firmly anchor it.
12. With the dominant hand working
through its sleeve, grasp the upper side
of the glove’s cuff and stretch it over the
cuff of the gown.
13. Pull the sleeve up to draw the cuff
over the wrist as you extend the fingers
of the nondominant hand into the glove’s
fingers.
14. Put the glove on the dominant hand.
Place the fingers of the gloved hand
under the cuff of the remaining glove.
15. Place the glove over the cuff of the
second sleeve.
16. Extend the fingers into the glove as
you pull the glove up over the cuff.
17. Have the circulating nurse take the
two ties at each side of the gown and tie
them.
18. .Remove and dispose of used gown
and gloves.
