D. Lesson Proper
Plumbing tools are the tools and
equipment that plumbers use to install (Students listen attentively)
and repair piping and water systems.
Using plumbing equipment can help
you carefully handle tasks and avoid
possible damage. By using different
tools in your day-to-day plumbing
tasks, you can improve your technical
skills.
Tools can help you make accurate
measurements, improve your overall
efficiency and complete projects on
time.
There are different types of tools with
specific uses. Many plumbing
operations require tools to hold or bend
pipes.These tools are called holding
tools.
Plumbers may also use fitting tools for
fixing, tightening, cutting and other
related tasks.
For cutting fixtures, pipers or bolts, you
can use a variety of cutting tools. Pipe
bending tools, pipe cutters and
hacksaws are a few examples of cutting
tools. As a plumber, you may also
perform tasks other than holding, fitting
and cutting.
10 Tools And Equipment For Plumbers
1. Bench vice
A bench vice is a tool that you can use to
perform various plumbing operations, such as
tapping, threading, sawing, chipping and
filling. This tool has both fixed and movable
jaws. Both jaws have plate fittings to improve
the grip for holding objects. A spindle attached
to the handle helps in opening and closing the
vice. When you place an object between the
two jaws, the spindle brings the jaws closer to
hold the object tightly. While performing a
plumbing operation, you can use a bench vice
to hold the object.
2. Pipe vice
A pipe vice is another holding tool that you can
use in the process of assembly, threading,
cutting and disassembly. Open and fixed sides
are two types of pipe vice that you can use in
the assembly of pipeline components. You can
also use pipe vices for welding pipes.
Depending on the plumbing task, you may
require a stand or support for the pipe vice. For
example, you can use a workbench or a mobile
tripod to support this tool.
3. Wrenches
Wrenches are fitting tools that many plumbers
use to tighten or loosen the nuts and bolts. You
can use this plumbing tool for holding slippery
or small-sized nuts. There are different types of
adjustable and non-adjustable wrenches for
gripping and tightening pipes or pipe fittings.
An adjustable wrench is an open-ended wrench
with a movable jaw. It can help you effectively
loosen nuts or bolts of various sizes.
4. Water pump pliers
Another example of a fitting tool that plumbers
may use is a water pump pliers. This tool can
help in loosening, tightening and holding nuts
or bolts during the fixing process. If you
require a strong and reliable grip, then using
water pump pliers can be helpful. The
manufacturing of water pump pliers may
require steel.
5. Pipe bending tools
Pipe bending tools are useful in bending pipes
at different angles as per the measurements.
Some examples of pipe-bending tools are
threading dies and pipe-bending machines.
Threading dies can help in joining and fixing
two pipes accurately. Plumbers can also use
this tool to create a thread on the end of a pipe
where they want to join the other pipe. You can
use pipe bending machines to bend or turn
pipes. They come in different sizes and
strengths, depending on the diameter and the
material of the pipe.
6. Screwdriver Plumbers
often use screwdrivers to loosen or tighten
different types of screw fasteners. There can be
specific types of screwdrivers for different
screws. Knowing which screwdriver to use is
important, as using the wrong one may damage
the screw. Choosing the right screwdriver can
also help you save time and effort. Here are a
few types of screwdrivers that you can use to
perform plumbing tasks:
-Power screwdrivers
-Flat-head screwdrivers
-Square screwdrivers
-Hex-key screwdriver
-Tri-wing screwdrivers
-Interchangeable heads screwdrivers
7. Drill machine
Many plumbers use drill machines to make
holes in metal or concrete surfaces. The drill
exerts a large amount of force on the object,
resulting in the formation of a hole. The
different parts of a drill machine are pillar, bed,
spindle, drill bit, chuck, motor and stepped
pulley. Using the right-sized drill with a sharp
end can help you create a hole with accurate
measurement.
8. Hammer
Hammer is a tool with a metal head at the end
of a handle. You can use this tool in your day-
to-day plumbing tasks. In general, a hammer
can help in breaking objects or putting a nail
into a wooden or plastic surface or a wall.
When choosing a hammer, consider finding the
one that is comfortable. Make sure the head of
the hammer has firm attachment to an
electrically insulated handle. You can also find
a hammer with a cushioned handle as it may
help you protect your hand from vibrations,
squeezing pressure and other impacts.
9. Files
Files are the hand tools that plumbers use for
removing sharp edges and metal removal
operations. The manufacturing of files may
require hardened steel in the shape of a rod or
bar. It contains various small cutting edges on
its surface. The important components of a file
tool are the face, heel, tang, edge and point.
Here are different types of files that plumbers
can use:
-Round file
-Half-round file
-Square file
-Triangular file
-Hand file
-Knife edge file
-Flat file
10. Measuring tapes
Plumbers use measuring tapes for making
accurate shapes and sizes of pipes or rods or
any other material required during the process.
You can find standard measuring tape that
measures inches and feet. Some metric tapes
can also allow you to measure objects in
centimetres and metres.
Precautionary Measures For Plumbers
-Check the water supplies before repairing or
installing water systems
-Consult with owners or clients to thoroughly
analyse the situation and understand the
problem
-Use protective gear to protect your eyes and
avoid possible eye damage
-Analyse the job location before performing
plumbing operations
-Use gloves to protect your hands from
chemicals and germs
-Use heat shields while working with the heat
on pipes and soldering torch
-Use a face mask to avoid breathing or lung
problems
-Avoid misusing tools, as it may lead to
damage
-Coordinate with other plumbers to ensure the
safety of others
-Ensure proper lightning while working in dark
or congested places
E. Application
Since you already know how to use
Tools and Equipment now get 1/2
crosswise and create an essay about
Why is it important to use proper tools
and equipment in plumbing. I will give
you 5 minutes to create your essay and
you need to past it today. Does anyone
have any question? Just raise your
hands.
F. Generalization
Okay class that is the end of our lesson
for today. Is there anyone who want to
ask a question or clarification? If non,
does anyone can tell me what is our
lesson all about?
G. Evaluation
Identify the plumbing tools and
equipment by guessing the image.
H. Assignment
Bring any plumbing tools tomorrow and
explain what is the use of that tools.
