1. Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recently organized an event to observe World No Tobacco
Day 2024 on May 31. Operational Guidelines for Establishing Tobacco Cessation Centres in Medical
Institutions was also unveiled. The initiative aims to educate and sensitize medical students about
tobacco cessation, aligning with the guidelines set by the National Medical Commission to train
graduates in holistic medicine. Moreover, Indian badminton maestro PV Sindhu was designated as the
brand ambassador for Tobacco Control to motivate young children and youth to steer away from
tobacco in all forms. During the event, awardees of the WHO World No Tobacco Day 2024 Award
were felicitated. The WHO WNTD Award for 2024 was presented to the State Tobacco Control Cell of Odisha and the
Regional Director’s Special Recognition Award for 2024 was presented to Dr. Mir Mushtaq Ahmad (Nodal Officer Kashmir,

2. Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) announced to launch a one-stop-portal, “National Health Claim
Exchange (NHCX)”, that will process health insurance claims across hospitals all over the country. The new digital health
claims platform will use a common data collection format that will contain all the information needed by different
insurance companies. It will aim to speed-up the pre-authorisation time and discharge approvals, and bring down
insurance premiums in the future. The claim exchange has been developed as part of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

3. Reliance Industries Ltd has signed an agreement with Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser AS, a fully owned subsidiary of Norway-
based Nel ASA, for sourcing technology to make electrolysers for production of Green Hydrogen. The agreement provides
Reliance with an exclusive license for Nel’s alkaline electrolysers in India and also allows Reliance to manufacture Nel’s
alkaline electrolysers for captive purposes globally. Reliance, which aims to turn net zero by 2035, plans to produce 100
GW of renewable energy, a fifth of the nation’s target for non-fossil capacity by the end of 2030. The Indian government
has set a target of 500GW of installed renewable energy by 2030. Of this, solar is expected to account for the largest share

4. The Center’s decision to increase its employees’ dearness allowance by 4% to 50% has resulted in a substantial revision
in other allowances, including retirement gratuity. As per para 6.2 of the OM dated 4-8-2016 issued by Department of
Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare, the maximum limit of Retirement gratuity and death gratuity shall be increased by 25%
whenever the dearness allowance rises by 50% of the basic pay. Accordingly, the maximum limit of Retirement Gratuity
and Death Gratuity under the ‘Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 2021’ or the ‘Central Civil Services (Payment of
Gratuity under National Pension System) Rules, 2021’, is now increased by 25%, from Rs 20 Lakh to Rs 25 Lakh, with effect

7. Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent reached the Eielson Air Force Base of the U.S. Air Force in Alaska, USA, to participate in the
upcoming edition of the multi-national exercise, “Red Flag 24-2”. Ex-Red Flag 24-2 is a two-week advanced aerial combat
training exercise aimed at integrating aircrew in a multinational environment. The Indian Air Force has sent eight Rafale fighter
planes, Il-78 mid-air refueling aircraft, and C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft to Eielson Air Force Base. India conducts more
military exercises with the US than with any other country. The Red Flag exercise was started by the US Air Force after the
Vietnam War in 1975. The US Air Force conducts several military exercises code named Red Flag in a year. {Read more}

the left-hand para category, while he won the bronze medal in the right-hand para category.
In the Masters category, Laxman Singh Bhandari secured two bronze medals, while Sachin
Goyal won the bronze medal in the competitive right-hand Senior category. Meanwhile, in
the Women’s Right and Left-hand categories, Ibi Lollen from Arunachal Pradesh clinched

9. IIT Bombay has entered a strategic partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)
to develop India’s first Quantum Diamond Microchip Imager. This advanced sensing tool
will enable better quality control of semiconductor chips, thereby improving product
reliability, safety, and energy efficiency of electrical devices. The collaboration between
TCS and IIT-Bombay is aligned with the National Quantum Mission (NQM). The
Quantum Diamond Microchip Imager can image magnetic fields, enabling a non-
invasive and non-destructive mapping of semiconductor chips. It uses the defects in a diamond’s structure, known as

11. The World Health Organization (WHO) has conferred the National Institute of Mental Health
and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, the country’s premier mental health institution,
with the “Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion for 2024”. NIMHANS director Pratima
Murthy received the award at the 77th World Health Assembly in Geneva. The Nelson Mandela
Award for Health Promotion, established by WHO in 2019, recognises individuals, institutions
and/or governmental or non-governmental organisations that have demonstrated remarkable
contributions to health promotion. The 2024 award was won jointly by the NIMHANS, India, and Professor Bontle
