A mindful way to phone usage
I used to have an unhealthy relationship with social media

I couldn't stop checking and I felt distracted, exhausted, guilty

scrolling social media and emotionally drained
From the moment I woke up to the moment I went • My productivity declined due to shrinking
to bed, my eyes were glued to my phone attention span
I checked my phone while:
• My mental health su ered due to constant
• Having breakfast / lunch / dinner
• Stopping at tra c lights exposure to negative news and social comparisons
• Walking in the street
• Studying / working
• Brushing my teeth
• Laying in bed

Is it just me... or someone else out there is also dealing with

excessive social media use?

My friends and family are indulging in social media use
Sometimes social media doesn’t connect us. It isolates us.

My friends and I every time we wait for our My cousin now doesn't bother talking to me
food to be served because he's busy scrolling TikTok

When I asked my friends: "Do

you want to spend more time on
social media?", none of them
said yes

They didn’t want to stop using

social media completely. But
they did want to use it more
e ectively

• "I wish I could focus better"

• "I wish I could sleep earlier at night instead
of scrolling social media"
• "I wish I could have more self-discipline to
stop wasting time scrolling feeds"

It's interesting that people often say social media is a TOOL ...

... but they forget that it can also be a DRUG

“If something is a tool, it genuinely is just sitting there waiting patiently. [...] And
we’ve moved away from having a tools-based technology environment to an
addiction- and manipulation-based tech environment. Social media isn’t a tool
that’s just waiting to be used. It has its own goals and its own means of pursuing
them by using your psychology against you.”

- The Social Dilemma (2020)

Social media is addictive, not by accident, but by design
