that we will discuss today. All you need to
do is to pass it while I play the music and
when the music stops the one who holds
the box will take something inside and Yes sir!
she/he will tell us what it is. Is it clear class?

(Students will participate)

Thank you class for participating.

(Student will raise their hands)

Cheer dance, Sir!

which we will fully understand in today’s

What comes to your mind when we talk (Students will raise their hands)
about cheer dance? It is one of the highlights in the UAAP
Yes (student’s name)? competitions, Sir.

Very good!

All the girls, please read the definition of CHEERDANCE

cheer dance loud and clear. a) It is coined from the words, CHEER
and DANCE.

b) Performance of a routine, usually

dominated by gymnastic skills such
as jumps, tumbling skills, lifts and
tosses combined with shouting of
cheers and yells to lead the crowd
to cheer for a certain team during a
fame or sport.

Based on the definition, Cheer dance is

created from the words, cheer and dance.
So, when we talked about cheer what do
you think is the meaning of it?

Yes (student’s name)? (Students will raise their hands)

Very good! That was the activity done before the

game.

Class, to cheer is to shout out words or

phrases that may help motivate and boost
the morale of a playing team and perform
better during a game. Like this one.
(The students will watch a short video
about an example of a cheerleader/
How about the word Dance? cheerdance.)

(Students will raise their hands)

Yes (student’s name)

Dance is the movement of the body in a
rhythmic way.
Very good!

Class, when we say “Dance” it is a physical

activity where one expresses emotions or
gestures while performing bodily
movements.

Cheer dance is usually dominated by

gymnastic skills such as jumps, tumbling
skills, lifts and tosses combined with
shouting of cheers and yells to lead the
crowd to cheer for a certain team during a
game or sport. It is an activity which gives
encouragement and make the player be
motivated.

Do we understand what does cheer dance

means?
Yes sir!

Okay let’s continue.

How about the origin of Cheer dance. Do

we have an idea on where cheer dance
originated?
None sir! (If yes, students will raise their
hands and share what they know about the
origin of cheer dance)
TRIVIA TIME!

Did you know that cheer dancing didn’t

start in the Philippines? It was only adopted
in the United States in the 1980s at
Princeton University, where it really
originated, and also in the late 1880s as an
all-male activity led by Johnny Campbell,
the one who invented cheer dancing with
his university fellows. This all started with a
man by the name of Thomas Peebles, who,
at Princeton University in the 1880s,
together with other students, supported a
local American football team with cheers.
By 1884 he moved to the university of
Minnesota where he quickly popularized
the idea of crowds cheering on a football
players for many years. On the famous day
of November 2, 1898 a medical student by
the name of Johnny Campbell would make
history with the influence he had been
through the years. Johnny started
conducting the cheer dance in front of the
crowds on the football field at the
university of Minnesota to cheer on an
American football team before the game to
help build momentum for the team to win.
Okay, do we understand the origin of cheer
dance?

Very good! Yes sir!

How about an idea on what are the basic
hand movements in cheer dance? Have
anyone from the class what are the basic
hand movements and position in cheer
dance? None sir! (If, yes students will raise their
hands and share their knowledge about
basic hand movements in cheerdance.)

the Tabletop (flip chart)

First, I will demonstrate each of 10 basic

that the players are already discouraged by
the other team's score. Here's what to do
with your squad: make a cheer that will
boost the player's confidence to win the
game using the basic hand movements and
positions we've studied.

Your performance will be graded using our
