Exercises 1
Define the following terminologies:
1/ Digital Revoluation
is an ongoing process of social, political,
and economic change brought about by digital technology, such as
computers and the Internet.
2/ Information Age
is a period in history when information is easy to
access and affects many aspects of everyday life, from the
economy to politics and social relationships.
3/ Digitization
is a process of converting text,
numbers, sound, photos, and video into data
that can be processed by digital devices
4/ Computer Science
is the study of computation and information and it is fundamentally problem-solving
5/ Informatics
application of methods from computer and information sciences in other fields of
science
Mention 3 Computer Science Fields:
Software Engineering
Robotics
Databases
Define Informatics and mention 5 applied fields for it:
Informatics is the application of methods from the computer and information sciences in
other fields of science just like Bioinformatics, Medical informatics, Pharmacy
informatics, Nursing informatics and Public Health informatics.
Describe the different phases of the digital revolution:
Digital revolution begins during World War II (1939 - 1945) when engineers built the first
digital computer for breaking codes and calculating missile trajectories then in the 1950s
computers were marked for business applications such as payroll and inventory
management although some historians mark the 1980s as the beginning of the digital
revolution.
Digital revolution and the evolution of computer marks multiple names such as Ismail al-
Jazari who invented the first programmable humanoid robots in 1206, and Ada Lovelace
who is the writer of the world's first computer program and Alan Tarig the father of
theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence not to forget George Bole who
invented Boolean logic, the basis of modern digital computer logic.
Digital revolution went through different phases from Data processing were computers
were huge complex , and expensive and only existed in large corporation and
government agencies then Personal computing where computers were not connected to
network , they were essentially self-contained units to Networking computing where
computers became networked and network technology allowed to connect multiple
computers , and share the internet connection and finally Cloud computing which
provides access to information applications , communication and storage over the
internet.
