Cafe
After leaving the east tunnel through the pizzeria, Joel and Tess must find a
ladder to reach an opening into the next building. After finding it behind the
nearby car, place it against the building, prompting Joel to say "Ladies first," in
Vigil's which Tess responds with "Lady? You must be thinking of somebody else." Climb

After entering the spore-infested tunnel and encountering the smuggler with a
broken gas mask, Joel and Tess will enter an area with three runners (the first
infected encounter for the player). Either kill them or sneak past and head
upstairs to the second floor. Before dropping down to the outside through the

After crossing the wooden plank and dropping down the collapsed fire escape,
follow Tess into the alley where Joel warns her to watch out for soldiers. Crouch
under some debris to emerge from the alley into an area with a lone tree to the
Glueck's
firefly left. Suspended from one of its branches is the Firefly pendant, which needs to be

pendant shot or hit with a throwable object in order to get it down. Pick up the pendant

from the ground after it lands to collect it.

Joel will shut it behind them and the area will be inaccessible after that.
As Joel and Tess walk through the Boston slums, they pass through a bus where a
fistfight is occurring outside. Joel is confronted by a man inside named Malick,
who Tess orders to sit down. Upon leaving the bus, walk straight ahead in
between the vendor set up to the left and the edge of a canopy to the right. The

As Joel and Tess walk through the Boston slums, they pass through a bus where a
fistfight is occurring outside. Joel is confronted by a man inside named Malick,
who Tess orders to sit down. Upon leaving the bus, walk straight ahead to the end
where a man and woman can be found leaning against a fence discreetly talking
Wanted
2 artefact about a guy hoarding stuff in a nearby warehouse. To the left of them, posted on
poster
the bulletin board in front of the blue storage containers, is the wanted poster.
Be sure to pick up the artefact before talking to the man at the gate and
confronting Robert's smugglers in the area ahead, as the area will be inaccessible
after that.
After passing through the slums and the first encounter with Robert's smugglers,
Joel will boost Tess up past a locked gate and she will help him up. Continue
forward until dropping into an area through a hole in a fence, where two of
Robert's men will appear talking about Tess and Joel. This scene acts as a tutorial
Warehouse
2 artefact for how to stealth kill human enemies. After defeating the two smugglers, there
key
are two more guys inside the nearby S&B Co. building. The last enemy defeated
in the area will drop the key, which is used to unlock the back door of the
building. The key is required to advance through the chapter and is therefore
unmissable.
2 Shipping artefact After Joel and Tess make their way through a chain-hoisted garage door that
manifest leads to the docks, they spot Robert speaking with one of his men. After he walks
away, Joel and Tess vault over a stone wall down to the ground, where six of
Robert's smugglers patrol the area. After dropping down, head towards the right
to the metal railing overlooking the water (outside of the loading bay). The note
can be found on the ground next to some fishing net behind a couple of blue
trash bins.
Be sure to pick up the artifact before entering the office Robert ran into at the
other end of the loading bay, as Tess will shut the door behind them and the area
will be inaccessible after that.
After Joel and Tess make their way through a chain-hoisted garage door that
leads to the docks, they spot Robert speaking with one of his men. After he walks
away, Joel and Tess vault over a stone wall down to the ground, where six of
Robert's smugglers patrol the area. After dropping down, follow along the right
side into the dock's loading bay where a large, rusty fishing boat is hoisted up.

The note can be found lying on the ground in the far right corner, behind a couple
of blue trash bins against the railing near the boat.
Be sure to pick up the artifact before entering the office Robert ran into at the
other end of the loading bay, as Tess will shut the door behind them and the area
will be inaccessible after that.
Across the bridge ahead, you'll see a pile of bodies. When all the enemies in the
optional
2 Body pile area are dead, you'll be able to talk over to the pile and initiate an Optional
conversation
Conversation with Marlene.
After meeting Marlene, follow her until you reach her hideout where she'll
introduce you to Ellie Williams, a young girl that Joel and Tess are entrusted to
smuggle out of the quarantine zone and to the capitol building. After leaving the

2 bakery and regaining control of Joel, now joined by Ellie, the two will comment on

three dead Fireflies lying in the street. Approach the far corpse rested against a
couple of newspaper vending machines. This is Phillip Liu's corpse; the pendant
can be picked up from his body.

Inside the safehouse at the beginning of the chapter, Joel and Tess share a
conversation about Marlene and their deal to smuggle Ellie while overlooking
the quarantine zone's wall. Tess then moves a nearby bookshelf and squeezes
through an opening behind it, with Ellie following, as they wait on an elevator
3 Tess's list artefact with a generator by it. Before following them, turn around and go into the
apartment from the previous cinematic. On the bedside table by the couch (the
one Joel took a nap on) is the artifact, next to a gas lantern.
Be sure to pick up the artifact before starting the generator and using the
elevator, as the area is inaccessible after that.
Tess Talks
optional As soon as the chapter starts, you can initiate an Optional Conversation by

Marlene
3 Patrol routes artefact At the beginning of the chapter, Joel is required to start a generator to power an
map elevator that Tess and Ellie are waiting on. Get on the elevator and interact
with the button to descend, where Joel and Tess will have a conversation about
Fireflies from another city waiting at the drop off, prompting Tess to question
Ellie about her importance. After getting off the elevator, immediately turn right
and walk to the corner in between the two water heating tanks and a wooden
pallet leaning against a chain link fence. The map can be found lying on the
ground among some litter.
Be sure to pick up the artifact before crouching through the tunnel and climbing
the ladder to the outside, as the area is inaccessible after that.
After evading the FEDRA patrols through a sewage tunnel and reaching
downtown Boston, a cinematic plays where Ellie explains Marlene's plan to Tess
and Joel, saying that the Fireflies have a quarantine zone with doctors
attempting to find a cure and that she may be the key to creating a vaccine.
Evacuation Tess convinces Joel to go through with the deal as the three continue making

leaflet their way to the capitol building. Once the player assumes control of Joel, follow
Tess and Ellie and climb the collapsed street into downtown Boston, where Tess
and Ellie share a conversation about the military's bombing of the surrounding
areas. On the right side of the street, lying on the ground next to the base of a
traffic light that a car crashed into, is the leaflet.
Shortly after evading the FEDRA patrols through a sewage tunnel and reaching
the upper street to downtown Boston, Tess and Ellie will share a conversation
about the military's bombing of the surrounding areas followed by a clicker
screeching in the distance. Continue up the street where Joel points out the
Lenz's Firefly firefly capitol building from afar and turn right to come in front of the Goldstone

pendant pendant Building, a partially-collapsed skyscraper. Before entering the building, go
towards the tree surrounded by benches on the terrace. Suspended from one of
its branches is the Firefly pendant, which needs to be shot or hit with a
throwable object in order to get it down. Pick up the pendant from the ground
after it lands to collect it.
Dead Soldier Now, return to the entrance to the Goldstone Building and go inside. When you
in The optional reach the top of the ramp, take a left through the doorway.

Goldstone conversation You'll come across a dead soldier on your right. After looking at the body, an Optional
Building Conversation prompt will appear above the corpse.
3 Field ops log artefact Shortly after evading the FEDRA patrols through a sewage tunnel and reaching
downtown Boston, Tess and Ellie will share a conversation about the military's
bombing of the surrounding areas followed by a clicker screeching in the
distance. Continue up the street where Joel points out the capitol building from
afar, and turn right to come in front of the Goldstone Building, a partially-
collapsed skyscraper. Upon entering the building, Joel and Tess will comment
on the corpse of a FEDRA soldier that's been recently mauled by infected.
Continue through the doorway to the stairwell leading to the fifth floor, where
they come across a second corpse. Lying on the ground next to the corpse is
the log, as well as two 9mm rounds.
Just north of the dead Firefly with the molotov, you'll find a second body up a
flight of stairs. Head towards it.
3 Firefly map artefact
To the right of the body, you'll find the Firefly Map. After you've looked at it,
Joel will pocket the map, adding another artifact to our collection.
Head left when entering the room of clickers. Using listen, make sure the coast
is clear and then quickly head to the left-hand side of the area, staying close to
the walls and keeping your flashlight on.
There will be a runner here feasting on a corpse. Silently choke him out as

quickly as possible, using a distraction to lure a clicker away if it's close enough
to notice. When you're done with the runner, head inside the shop to your left.
In the drawer behind the counter, you'll find pistol ammo and the Note to
Derek.
Climb onto the truck using the drawers and then drop down onto the other side.
Medical
3 artefact Before you leave, however, turn around. You'll see an open doorway leading
pamphlet
inside the truck. Inside you'll find a 2x4 and a Medical Pamphlet.
Michael Kiper's Firefly Pendant can be found in the chapter "The Outskirts"
during the section "Museum". The pendant is in a display case reached by

entering the museum. For further context, this is the area where Ellie breaks
the vase.
When you reach the windows leading out of the museum, you'll initiate
Tess in the optional

When we regain control, we'll be just around the corner from the Capitol
Building. Descend the stairs ahead of you and follow Tess. When you reach the
3 Firefly orders artefact bottom, look to the left of the staircase to find a dead Firefly leaning against
the wall. At the Firefly's feet, you'll find revolver ammo, while next to him you'll
come across a note containing the Firefly Orders.
The Capitol Building will be in view now. Push forwards down the path ahead
Davidson’s
firefly and into the body of water developing in front of it. When in the body of water
Firefly
pendant in front of the Capitol Building, look for the stone gazebo to the left. Wade over
pendant
to it and head to the centre.
3 Smuggler artefact Swim over to where Ellie is currently standing and climb out of the water. You'll
see a skeletal corpse to her right, with Ellie picking up its flashlight. Next to the
note corpse, you'll also find the Smuggler Note. That's an artifact, so add it to the
collection.
We can also grab another collectible in this area. To the left of the corpse we
found the Smuggler Note on is a short tunnel. Swim underneath the wreckage

firefly obstructing the tunnel and you'll find a submerged work area. Climb onto the

pendant nearby platform to find some supplements, then swim beneath the platform.

On top of the drawers in the centre is some scrap, while you'll find Jirang's
Firefly Pendant on a shelf to your left. Grab it and then return to Ellie.

4 Pills Note artefact With both clickers down, let's head through the door opposite the shed the first clicker was hiding in.
Scale the stairs to your right and, at the top, you'll find an office containing some pistol ammo, scrap
and other resources. On the floor on your right as you enter the office, you'll see the Pills Note on the
floor. Pick it up, read it and then leave the office.
Inside the pizzeria, Ellie and Joel will find some useful supplies, as well as an old arcade machine for
Ellie Talks The optional "The Turning". Ellie will automatically approach the machine and begin examining it. An Optional

Turning conversation Conversation prompt will then appear above her head. Hit TRIANGLE, listen to her talk about the
arcade machine and then leave the pizzeria through the back door.
When you're back on the high street, push north and head as far down the street as you can go. You'll
4 Note to Bob artefact eventually reach a blockade with a deck chair on top. On the barbwire fence below the chair is
the Note to Bob.
Wang’s Firefly On the way back up the street, look for an RV on your left. On top of this RV, you'll find the
4 firefly pendant
pendant next Firefly Pendant.
Continue up the street, past the RV and you'll eventually spot a mandatory evacuation sign just across
4 Bill's Town Safe ??? from the pizzeria's entrance. Just next to that is the safe. Input the code and open it to get a load of
scrap, some supplements and rifle ammo.
After exploring the first room in the record store, head through to the back. You'll find some more
4 Perimeter Note artefact resources here, as well as the Perimeter Note. Look for a printer on a chest of drawers next to the
computer. The note can be found just in front of it.
You'll find plenty of supplies throughout the apartment, including supplements, bandages and alcohol.
However, the most important find here is our next artifact: Rachel's Note. It can be found on a table

opposite the TV in the living room. It's hard to miss, as a big spray-painted signing reading "Rachel"
can be seen above it. Grab the note and then leave the apartment.
During the cutscene prior to this, Bill talked with Joel and Ellie about specific locations in the town
4 Bill’s Map artefact using a map. We can grab this map as soon as the scene ends. Once you regain control, spin around
and you'll find Bill's Map on a workbench next to the bar.
We can find another collectible in the room by the entrance to Bill's safehouse. Head into the small
4 Fences Note artefact seating area next to the dart board and the set of picture frames. On the table in this room is the Fences
Note. Add it to the collection and then head back towards Bill.
The second optional conversation of this section sees Joel and Ellie talk about chess. To prompt the
Joel and Ellie optional conversation, look for the chess board on one of the booths opposite the bar. As you approach it, the

Talk Chess conversation optional conversation chime will play. Hit TRIANGLE and you'll talk with Ellie about chess before
being rudely interrupted by Bill.
When scavenging resources from the bar, you'll find a small book there. This looks like an artifact

initially, but its actually our first Training Manual.
When you get to the top of the stairs, take a right and head down the landing. You'll eventually reach a
small kitchen area with a vending machine. You'll know you're in the right room because Bill will tell
4 Hunters Note artefact
Joel he doesn't need anything from there. On the table in this room is the Hunters Note. Grab it, read
it and then add it to the collection.
4 Vincent’s firefly pendant Leave the kitchen and then follow Bill, hopping through a nearby window, crossing the roof and
winding up in a small office. Grab the scraps off the desk and continue following Bill. He'll eventually
lead you out onto a street. After a short conversation, infected will attack. You'll have to fend off two
clickers and a runner. We can also find our next Firefly Pendant here. Look for a street lamp just to

the right of the ambulance in the middle of the combat arena. You'll find the pendant hanging from the
lamp post. You can shoot it down or use the brick found near the pendant's location to knock it to the
floor.
While in the church's basement, look for a small outcrop with some shelves opposite the work bench
4 Tools tools upgrade where Bill made the nail bombs. In the back left corner of this outcrop, you'll find a some scrap and a
tool box containing a set of Level 1 Tools.
On the second floor, you'll enter the church itself. Head to the centre and then access Bill's room
4 Bomb Note artefact through the doorway on the right. Inside, you'll find supplements, alcohol and the Bomb Note. Grab
the note, have a read and then add it to your backpack.
Inside, loot the garage and kitchen to find some scrap and alcohol. Next, head to the bathroom. Inside,
Mrozik’s Firefly
4 firefly pendant you'll find the next Firefly Pendant. It'll be on the floor just next to the toilet. Pick it up, have a look
pendant
at it and then add it to our growing collection of trinkets.
While upstairs, head into the room on your right. You'll find yourself in a child's bedroom. By the

window, you'll find a Boy's Diary.
Ellie Brings Up optional After leaving the room where you find the Boy's Diary, Ellie will approach Joel and ask if he's free to

When you regain control, you'll be in a garage with a now-working car. Before we do anything though,
let's search the house. Head to the house's bedroom. It's just through the door next to where Joel and
Note From Bill found the body. Grab the supplies dotted around the room, including tape, revolver ammo, scrap

Frank and some explosives. When you've got everything, take a look at the note on the desk by the window.
This is a Note From Frank. Have a read. You'll learn that Frank's opinion of Bill was, well, not
particularly flattering.
After you've picked up the note, return to Frank in the garage. An Optional Conversation prompt will

Frank's Note conversation conversation). Interact with Bill to hand him Frank's note. He'll read it, crumple it up and then throw it
away. Don't leave the room just yet.
For some reason, Joel is the nosiest man you've ever met. After Bill has crumpled the message and

thrown it to one side, Joel can pick it up and pocket it... for some reason. You have to pick up the Note

After interacting with Frank, walk up to the pick-up truck's window and an Optional Conversation

4 prompt will appear above Ellie's head. Interact with her and Joel will tell Ellie she's doing a good job.

They'll then talk briefly about driving the truck.
