PREFACE
This series presents a study of Islam in an attractive and comprehensive way.
Islamic studies must enable the student to view Islam in all its aspects and accept
it as a way of life; and that is what this series does. Through it, the student
observes the impact of Islam on life as a whole and does not confine it to just a
limited study of Islamic jurisprudence only.
The book guides the student in the various activities of his little world at
school, at home and in the environment around him. A complete guide to correct
behaviour and etiquette in the various stages and fields of life, this series moulds
the student’s attitude and becomes his trusted companion through his school and
college days, the transitional and delicate period of his teens and in life’s winter
too.
It not only presents the do’s and don’t’ s but also refines the habits and manners,
creating a rich and endearing personality. It is an invaluable teaching aid for
teachers and parents both. The success of this book depends considerably on the
teacher’s ability to discuss in depth each concept with the student and ensure that
he/she not only understands it but also accepts and implements it. The process of
learning includes knowing, understanding, accepting and doing or implementing
a concept.
The spirit and message of each new fact must permeate the student’s personal-
ity and form his attitude and must also go into his daily life by turning that con-
cept into action. The teacher must, through her follow-up interaction, insist on this
to draw the maximum benefit from the book. She/he must turn each lesson into
an informal, heart-to-heart talk, appealing to the conscience and avoiding a for-
mal question-answer session.
A sure key to success, this series, in a graded form and in the student’s own
vocabulary, is a complete course in grooming and etiquette.

TO THE TEACHER
The purpose of this book at the age level of five to six years, is to introduce the child
to common Islamic words, terms, basic concepts and morals.
The children in the age-group below six are not able to read well. Hence, this book
has less of the written word, more pictures and relies more on the teacher’s oral presen-
tationof each page. Hence, you are advised to turn each page into a lesson and talk at
length about the single word, sentence or idea given on a page.
The book also contains three lessons of questions and answers, one for each term.
Each question of these three lessons should be turned into a lesson and a talk with a relat-
ed and supporting story. Talk lightly about one question for a full period and put up the
question and answer on the black-board in the last 10 minutes of the period for teaching.
Children like toys, bright colours, flowers, sweets and games. They like doing and
seeing new things and playing new games (instead of writing or hearing). You must use
these tendencies of the children to your benefit. Use toys, colourful charts, flowers,
sweets, games, new things and new styles as aids of teaching in every lesson. Make sure
you use one aid in every lesson. That will ensure success for your teaching.
Using an interesting, new teaching-aid in every lesson does the trick and works won-
ders with a naughty or academically weak class.
Prepare a shining, decorated chart for the lessons. Use PIOUS WORDS in bold let-
ters and hang it in the classroom. Children love flowers. Draw large flowers and write
words like Allah, Prophet (S.A.W.) and other pious words in the centre of the flowers.
After talking to the children about the concept on each page along with an aid, read
out the lesson loudly and clearly. Then let the children read the same. Be careful to
ensure that they don’t fall into the deadly trap of rote learning or cramming without
understanding.
Turn the Islamic Studies period into a welcome joy and a period of happiness for
which they wait. Do practical work to include some fun-time in it. While teaching the
Hadees about the mother, prepare a gift-card with real flowers in it in the class and let
each child present this to his parents.
The I.S. period should be kept just before recess. The recess is a joy for children, and
to link Islamic Studies with it, creates a happy atmosphere.
There should be no written work or note-book of Islamic Studies. The examination
should be oral uptil middle classes.
The book is framed in such a way that the lessons are naturally divided into three
parts. The syllabus for each term ends with a lesson of questions and answers.
may be shown to complement your teaching but not to
Slides and brief video shots
substitute it. For example, when you plan to teach the word Kabah, you could show a
video film of the Kabah and Haj for just 3 to 5 minutes.
The Islamic Studies teacher must himself/herself present a role-model and example
of all that she/he teaches as the children are sharply observant. They are impressed
quickly. They adopt equally quickly and unconsciously the teacher’s habits, manners,
style and even the tone of talking and the style of walking. Children copy. So, use this
tendency of the children to your benefit by setting a good example yourself for them to
copy.
Insist on implementation of the morals you teach.
