• Indivisible is a design that is made up of nine squares that are connected to a big one and
nished off with two sets of borders, if you wish to make a blanket. For the shrug version, you will
connect the respective corners to sleeves, and add a border to the body section. Each square is
unique and differs in texture, construction, and stitch pattern. The goal was to use a new
technique/stitch in every clue to make it challenging, but also fun.
• Clues 1-9 are interchangeable. If the instructions are too challenging, you can substitute a square
with a previous clue at any time.
• Please make sure to carefully read every clue’s speci c note before starting each clue.
• Because I am a tight crocheter, I highly recommend checking your gauge against mine to ensure
that you have enough yarn to complete the design and reach the desired measurements.
• Gauge is crucial to this project, since most clues use almost all of the yardage given in a skein.
Please make sure to be on gauge to not run out of yarn.
• Each clue’s notes include unblocked and blocked square measurements, as well as gauge details.
These are mainly for you to keep track of tension while working on your square and to avoid
running out of yarn. Please adjust your crochet hook size up or down if you signi cantly deviate
from the speci ed numbers. It is preferable to get a smaller square than a larger one.
• Each square is blocked after nishing the clue. You can opt to block everything before
connecting all the clues. Be advised that Clues 1-9 need to have the same nal dimensions.
• The pattern uses 12 colors but can be made with more or fewer, if preferred.
• The blanket version used approximately 2024 yds (1851 m) – C1: 169 yds (155 m), C2: 186 yds
(170 m), C3: 173 yds (158 m), C4: 150 yds (137 m), C5: 186 yds (170 m), C6: 173 yds (158 m), C7:
165 yds (151 m), C8: 179 yds (164 m), C9: 154 yds (141 m), C10: 167 yds (153 m), C11: 150 yds
(137 m), and C12: 175 yds (160 m). These yardages only include the amounts used in the clues
themselves. Extra yardage used as colorwork will be speci ed in the respective clue notes.
• The shrug version used approximately 1988 yds (1818 m) – C1: 179 yds (164 m), C2: 184 yds
(168 m), C3: 177 yds (162 m), C4: 150 yds (137 m), C5: 184 yds (168 m), C6: 182 yds (166 m), C7:
169 yds (155 m), C8: 181 yds (166 m), C9: 159 yds (145 m), C10: 167 yds (153 m), C11: 142 yds
(130 m), and C12: 113 yds (103 m).
• You can choose to use a ch 2 at the beginning of rows/rounds instead of a chainless starting
double crochet. The ch 2 at the beginning of rows does NOT count as a stitch throughout the
pattern unless otherwise indicated. First double crochet will go into stitch containing ch 2.
• VERY IMPORTANT: You will need to keep the leftover partial skeins, as you will need some of
them later in the pattern.
• The pattern includes written instructions, as well as charts for each clue.
• For instructions on how to work a Magic Ring, check out this video.
• Clue #1 is worked at, back and forth until the desired height is reached. The selectively placed
double crochets and ch-1 spaces result in a stitch pattern that mimics diamonds.
• This clue is based on a multiple of 8+5 sts and 8 rows.
• Testers’ yardages varied between 131-181 yds (120-166 m).
• Gauge/square dimensions (gauge in clue pattern = 4”; dimension measured along center lines):
• Unblocked: 16 sts x 9 rows; 13.5” / 34 cm (width) x 12.5” / 32 cm (height).
• Blocked: 14.5 sts x 7.5 rows; 14.5” / 37 cm (width) x 14.5” / 37 cm (height).

• Clue #2 is worked in the round. It will make a square with rounded corners, which will need to be
blocked into shape. The four puff clusters in the corners form a cross, whereas the puff clusters
along the sides will be increased by two every other round and ll the triangle spaces between.
• Puff stitches at the beginning of a round will start with a chainless starting double crochet (csdc).
To complete the puff stitch, follow the instructions of a csdc until you have three loops on the
hook. Then continue following the instructions of the puff stitch until the end.
• Don’t be alarmed when the center of the square starts bulging at Rounds 2–3. This will resolve
itself around Rounds 6–7 and completely atten out during blocking. You will need to block this
square rather aggressively.
• Testers yardages varied between 138–202 yds (126–185 m). This clue will use up almost all of your
skein, so please make sure to meet gauge and/or aim for a little bit smaller square if necessary.
• Gauge/square dimensions (gauge in clue pattern = 4”; dimension measured along center lines):
• Unblocked: 4 rnds x 4 rnds; 12” / 30.5 cm (width) x 12” / 30.5 cm (height).

CLUE #4 NOTES
• Clue #4 is worked at back and forth until desired height is reached. This clue features a chevron
stitch pattern made up of double crochets, which are interrupted twice by adding two rows of
single crochet in a contrasting color. The square is nished off by adding a top and bottom
edging to level the height difference of the chevrons.
• Testers’ yardages varied between 128–188 yds (117–172 m).
• This clue has the tendency to become larger while working it, so please make sure that you’re on
gauge to avoid having to redo it.
• In this clue, you will add a contrasting color (CC). We opted to use C1. Do NOT cut C4 while
working with CC, but instead carry it along the edge. CC yardage required: 25 yds (23 m).
• Gauge/square dimensions (gauge in clue pattern = 4”; dimension measured along center lines):
• Unblocked: 18 sts x 9 rows; 12.5” / 32 cm (width) x 13.5” / 34 cm (height)

• Clue #5 is worked in the round. In this clue, you will make long chain loops each round, which stay
unworked until Round 12. Just push the loops to the front of your work, so they don’t get in your
way. In Round 12, these loops will be interchained/braided along the corners. After the loops
have been interchained, the clue will remind you of a spiderweb.
• Clusters (CL) at the beginning of a round will start with a chainless starting double crochet (csdc).
To complete the CL, follow the instructions of a csdc until you have 3 loops on the hook, and then
continue following the instructions of the CL until the end.
• Rounds which contain working into a round below are highlighted in different colors in the chart
for clarity.
• Testers’ yardages varied between 158–222 yds (144.5–203 m).

MCAL clue 5
• Clue #6 is worked in the round, initially forming a circle before increases are added to form a
square shape. The center features a ower motif from buds to blossom with ower petals. The
square shape is achieved by working several rounds of the Granny Square stitch.
• Popcorn stitches (PC) at the beginning of a round start with a chainless starting double crochet
(csdc). To complete the PC, follow the instructions for a csdc (will count as 1 dc). Then continue
the instructions for the PC by making 3 more dc and nishing the PC.
• For two rounds in this clue, you will work not into the previous round, but the round below that.
These rounds are highlighted in color (Round 3 & Round 4). Some stitches in Round 5 will also be
worked into the round below.
• Testers’ yardages varied between 138-222 yds (126-203 m).
• Gauge and square dimensions (gauge in clue pattern = 4”; dimension measured along center
lines):
• Unblocked: 6 rnds x 6 rnds; 12.5” / 32 cm (width) x 12.5” / 32 cm (height).

CLUE #7 NOTES
• This clue will be worked in the round to start and later switched to be worked in rows. This clue is
constructed like a regular Granny Square. Once the desired diameter is reached, you will cease
working in the round, and only continue along two edges. This will create an off-center Granny
Square.
• Before blocking, the nished “square” will look more like a trapezoid (one tip will be pointy). Don’t
be alarmed! This will straighten during blocking.
• Testers’ yardages varied between 143-196 yds (131-179 m).
• Gauge and square dimensions (gauge in clue pattern = 4” (10 cm); dimension measured along
center lines):
• Unblocked: 4 rnds x 4 rnds; 12” / 30 cm (width) x 12” / 30 cm (height)

• Clue #8 is worked at, back and forth until the desired height is reached. In this clue, you will
create a cable motif in the middle by working around the front and back posts of double and
treble crochets. Left- and right-leaning cables are achieved by working skipped stitches either
from above or behind.
• Testers’ yardages varied between 151 223 yds (138-204 m).

• Clue #9 is worked at back and forth until the desired height is reached. This clue features a
hybrid, mosaic crochet technique. You will add a contrasting color by only working the front loop
of a stitch, but the new color will not be worked for the full row. Four equal Tunisian tile-like
designs will be created in the four quarters of the square.
• You will add up to four contrasting colors (CC1–CC4) using leftover yarn from previous clues. You
can choose to only add one color if desired. You will need approximately15 yds (14 m) for each
CC or approximately 60 yds (55 m) total. The yarn color of Clue 9 will be referred to as MC.
• Carry the CC along the wrong side of the work, catching it periodically if desired. Do NOT cut CC
unless instructed. You may choose to cut the CC instead of carrying it along while working the WS.
• Testers’ yardages varied between 136–191 yds (124–175 m).
• Gauge and square dimensions (gauge in clue pattern = 4” / 10 cm; dimension measured along
center lines):
• Unblocked: 19 sts x 18 rows; 12.5” / 32 cm (width) x 12.5” / 32 cm (height).

• In Clue #10, you will nish off each square by crocheting a single crochet border around it, and
then assemble all the squares to a big 3x3 square.
• If you haven’t blocked all your squares yet, now is a good time to do so before continuing with
this clue. Make sure that all squares have the same size for a smooth and pain-free assembly.
• You can arrange your squares as you wish. The schematic below is just a suggestion.
• Testers’ yardages varied between 144–198 yds (132–181 m).
