Why do I want to be a PA?
I love being a paramedic but I want to further my skills and be able to provide patient care at a higher
level.
I needed a meaningful career after fire and PA was perfect
Financial security for my family
to be able to complete patient care. (Frustrating to drop critical patient off at hospital and have to leave
and not be part of the continuation of care.)
Clinical flexibility
Why not a Nurse or Doctor
I have really thought about this not just for preparing for this question but for my career change in
general. This is my complete honest deduction.
I did consider both those options extensively. Both of those fields would provide the road to being the
type of healthcare provider that I want to be. I also feel that I could excel as a nurse or doctor.
The biggest reason I cannot pursue either of those careers is time. I do not have it any more. As far as
Nursing goes I currently have a similar salary. If had chosen to enter nursing I would have definitely
worked to become a Nurse practitioner. 3 years to receive a BSN. Most NP programs required 2-5 years
as a practicing nurse to be competitive or to be able to apply. And then there is the length of the
program.For where I want to be with my career and family life that is to long.
Medical or DO school gives me the same dilemma. 4-5 years to complete a pre-med undergrad, 4 years
medical school. Residency program after that and all the while my kids are growing.
PA is perfect! The scope of practice and patient interaction that I want is there. The salary that I want is
there. I want it so bad. I have worked really
