SUBJECT: REPLACEMENT OF SMOKE DETECTORS

Smoke detectors cannot last forever!

Smoke detectors contain electronic parts. Although smoke detectors are made to last over
10 years, any part can fail at any time. Any smoke detector, fire alarm system, or any
component of that system which fails shall be repaired or replaced immediately.

Furthermore, all smoke detectors must be visually inspected semi-annually, per NFPA 72
(2002 Edition), Chapter 10, Table 10.3.1 and functionally tested annually per Table 10.4.3.
