COC 3

1. Install a Windows Server OS on a computer and a regular Windows OS (Pro Edition) on the other. In this
case, Windows Server 2008 R2 & Windows 10. See COC 1 for further installation details. Be sure to setup
the passwords in both and DON’T FORGET THEM.

2. Configure the Windows Server; Computer Name (To make things easier), Network (Static IP), Remote
Desktop Connection and Sharing. On first boot there will be a popup named Initial Configuration Tasks.
a. To change Computer Name click Provide Computer Name and Domain

b. Click change and change the computer name (In this case WindowsServer) then Restart Later.

a. To setup IP addresses click on Configure Network, then right click on Local Network Connection and
click properties
b. Select Internet Protocol IPv4 then click on Properties. Setup a static IP address based on your Router
(See COC2 for further details). The Router’s IP address used is 192.168.1.0 (Default Gateway).

c. To setup the Remote Desktop Settings, click on Enable Remote Desktop and select the Second
Option.

d. To enable Sharing go to Start > Control Panel > View network status and tasks

e. Select Advanced Sharing Settings and Turn On; Network Discovery, File and Printer Sharing, Public
Sharing and Password Protection on all Networks. Then Save Changes, Restart the Server.
3. Installing ADDS (Active Directory Domain Services)
a. After Restart, Go to Start and type dcpromo, Enter and wait, after waiting, click on Next then
follow the images below; (Read from Left to Right, Up to Down)

b. Setup a Domain Name (In this case: css.com), Select Server 2008 R2 on the drop down menu
c. Set up a password

d. Wait until finished

4. Adding Roles
 After Restart, wait for the Server Manager to pop up, and then add Roles, Select DHCP Server and Print
and Document Services
 Give a Scope Name, starting – Ending IP range (Router & Server’s IP mustn’t be involved in the
range)
 Install and Wait, then Close

5. Setup the Client PC; Network, Domain & Remote Services


a. Go to Run (Logo + R) and type ncpa.cpl then click OK (Press Enter)

b. Right Click on Local Network Connection and click properties


c. Select Internet Protocol IPv4 then click on Properties. Make the IP dynamic, and Server’s IP as the
preferred DNS Server.

d. Go to file explorer, then right click This PC and click properties

e. Click Change Settings


f. Setup Computer name (In this case WindowsClient) and set domain into the domain you made
(css.com), log in the user and password then Restart the PC

g. After Restart, go to file explorer, then right click This PC and click properties
h. Select Remote Settings

6. Adding Users & Folder Redirection


a. Click Start, hover to Adminisrative Tools then select Active Directory Users and Computers.
b. Right click the domain name (css.com), hover to New then select Organizational Unit (OU), and set up a
name (In this case CreatedUsers)

c. Right click the created OU, then hover to New and select User, Fill in details and click Next

d. Set up a password and make sure that the first checkbox is the only one checked

e. Add Users to Remote Desktop; Go to run (Logo + R), then type sysdm.cpl, enter
f. Select the Remote Tab

g. Click on Add, then type the first name of the User and select Check Names (The PC will autocorrect) and
select OK

h. Remember the Underlined Text, it will be used for logging in and out/Remote Desktop

i. Log in the client with the created user and change the password
j. Folder Redirection; Create a New Folder and name it as Folder Redirection

k. Share the Folder Redirection Folder (See COC 2 for further details)

l. Type “Everyone” then add, click on the drop down menu and select Read/Write
m. Go to Advanced Sharing, check the Share this folder checkbox, go to Permissions and check Full Control,
then OK.
n. On the Server, Go to start, hover to the Administrative Tools then click Group Policy Managemen

o. Click on the plus(+) boxes from the image below, then right click the OU created (CreatedGroup), and
click Create a GPO… Then name it as Folder Redirection

p. Right click the created GPO and select Edit


q. Click the Plus buttons of Users Configurations > Policies > Windows Settings > Folder Redirection. Right
Click on Desktop then select Properties

r. Set the Setting to Basic (1) and the root path into the Network Path of the Folder Redirection Folder (2),
then go to the Settings Tab (3), then uncheck the first option and check the last option. Then do the
same to the Documents Folder. Then exit.
s. Go to the client pc and go to cmd (Command Prompt), run CMD or type cmd in start menu

t. Type gpupdate /force, after the update, type y then enter to log off and log in again

u. After logging in, the Folder Redirection folder will have a new generated folder named after the user
and within it, shows the desktop and documents folder of the client
7. Remote Desktop Connection
 Server - Client
a. Go to run and type sysdm.cpl on client PC, then log in the Administrator Account, then add the
user in the Remote Desktop Connection

b. On the Server go to start and type Remote Desktop Connection, then enter the Client PC’s
Computer name (WindowsClient) to Connect
c. Fill in the created user’s account with it’s password, then connect

d. It works when the logged in user in the Client PC logs off and the Server PC looks similar to this

 Client – Server
a. Do the same thing as the letter (b) instructions on Server – Client but this time, use the Server’s
Computer name and the Server’s Administrator Account
b. This should be the final result
8. Print Management
a. Install a printer on the Server and thhen right click and select Printer Properties
