POLLUTION
Nowadays there are lots of environmental problems, mainly because of pollution. It is the contamination of air, water and soil
by different materials that interfere with human health and quality of life.

The emissions from industries and engines, including cars, are one of the causes of air pollution and simple things that we do at
home, like using aerosols, have had effects on the ozone layer, which protects life on Earth from ultraviolet radiation.

Water is also suffering from pollution by domestic, municipal and also industrial waste. A scary example of this is the ‘Great
Pacific Garbage Patch’ which was first discovered by scientists in the 1980s. It is an area of floating rubbish in the Pacific
Ocean that is nearly the same size as Germany.

Plastic bottles and bags may take hundreds or maybe even thousands of years to break down over time, chemicals enter the
water then it finds its way into the fish that live in the water. These chemicals can make the fish ill, resulting in making the
people who eat the fish ill as well.

It is up to us to stop damaging the environment. So, what can we do? There are many things we can do! We can clean up our
oceans, we can stop making so many things from plastic, and we can recycle more. The important thing is to do something!
