Prayer and Worship

Prayer and worship are the key instruments of individual
growth in the present stage of development of mankind. The short
word “growth” embodies two independent factors: enhancement
of spiritual perception and expansion of cosmic consciousness.
Although such growth is not a conscious process per se, it does
nevertheless require conscious and very intense efforts and total
mobilisation of all mind and body resources by each growing
individual.
Conscious and habitual rejection of the inner ideals of truth,
beauty and goodness makes a human being unable to grow. The
destiny of the part of mankind which chooses the “path” of
aborted growth is determined not by this part, but by the other,
which courageously chooses the path of growing, thus fulfilling
its own divine and unrevealed destiny. I endeavour to avoid
using the words “majority” and “minority”; not because they
would not accurately reflect the present quantitative relationship
between these two categories of living intelligent beings, but merely
to emphasize their being qualitatively incommensurable. Indeed,
2
could one really say about the situation 38,000 years ago:
“the majority of people are Neanderthalers and the minority are
Adamites?” No, the Neanderthalers are one thing (even though
they dominated the world for 800,000 years) and Adamites
are another thing altogether. It is foolish to compare them and
abominable to add or mix them together.
In order to understand the reasons why the evolutionary
growth and even the very existence of mankind of the present
quality (and, especially, in the present quantity) is not in-
evitable, it may be beneficial to clarify the division of conscious-
ness or mind into the following three stages or phases:
Pre-adjutant Mind
This is the lower, non-teachable consciousness of neurons and,
possibly, other living cells. Note that some single-celled or-
ganisms like Infusoria can be considered teachable in a limited
sense, i.e. they make functional contact with the 1st mind adju-
tant. Life on this level is a sequence of “simple” 1-dimensional
perceptions. From the point of view of external energy and
structural support, this life is controlled by the intelligent beings
3
called “Master Physical Controllers”. These beings correspond
to the concept of “elemental spirits” (elfs, undines, sylphs,
salamanders) encountered in the occult and esoterical literature.
Material Mind
This is the level of the seven mind adjutants, further subdivided
into the following two sublevels:
1. The first five mind adjutants (1–5). This is the level
of sensations and perceptions, i.e. the emotional tones
corresponding to what was sensed by the organism of the
external world. The role of “language” is played here by
the mere communication of the emotional tones, mapped
to this or that perception or even to a small group
of perceptions. The perception of space is limited by
two dimensions and the 3-dimensional features of objects
are perceived as motion. The motion in a higher (i.e.
3-dimensional) space is perceived just as a “miracle”
would be perceived by a human, i.e. as inexplicable and
possibly alive. This is the level of higher animals such
as a dog or a horse.
4
2. All seven mind adjutants. Here is the beginning of
concept formation and it happens in the following way:
the accumulation and repetition of an enormous num-
ber of perceptions causes them to group and even be-
gin to unite or merge, thus the groupped percepts are
“thickened” into concepts. This is driven by the natural
tendency of the economy of memory and thought pro-
cessing. This tendency was programmed in advance by
the intelligent beings called Life Carriers when they de-
signed the structure of the base forms capable of evolution
used in the actual life implantation which occurred on
this planet 550 million years ago. This is the level
of ordinary human mind. Attaining the conceptual level
always implies the appearance of language with words
being symbols attached to the concepts. It also implies
the 3-dimensional perception of space.
Morontia Mind
The term “morontia” is coined from the interlacement of the two
English words: “matter” and “moral”. One could say that
5
morontia is like a strange fabric which has the warp made of
morals and the woof made of matter. Just like the process
we have seen on the lower level, where the accumulation and
grouping of percepts eventuated in concept, the accumulation
and grouping of concepts eventuates in super-concept, but only
if this process happens as the kind of interlacing of something
which is matter-originated (i.e. concepts) and something else
which is spirit-originated (i.e. morals). This is the interplay of
cosmic consciousness and spiritual perception which was mentioned
in the beginning. When it occurs, something miraculous, from the
point of view of the material mind, ensues: a morontia soul is
born and the mind starts to function on the super-material or,
more descriptively called, material-moral level, which is labelled
here as “the morontia level”. Cosmic consciousness alone (e.g.
the so-called “astral projections” of esoterics) is not spiritual
in itself and therefore insufficient, it must be complemented with
the spiritual component for this to work. It is on this level
that I can see that the forming of a snowflake, the beautiful
frost patterns on the window glass, the growth of an embryo
6
and human body, all have the same essense, but they are thus
connected in the realm of at least one dimension higher than
the three dimensions ordinarily accessible to a human mind. The
true origin of music (both composition and perception), probably,
also lies on this level, which suggests that the morontia realities
were in principle accessible hundreds of thousands of years ago.

Religion

In the language of religion this process corresponds to the real-

isation (not mere acceptance!) of the Gospel of Jesus, namely
that God is our Father and therefore all human beings are
brothers and sisters (not to be mistaken with the “Gospel of the
risen Christ” of Christianity). Conscious, sincere and whole-
hearted choice of doing the Father’s will constitutes exactly (as
exact as it can be, on this finite level of reality and while still
in the habiliments of material body) the required interlacement of
the groupped and “thickened” material concepts (“me doing the
will”) and the moral factor (“the will of the Father”). And
this is also the same as choosing the highest ideals of truth,
7
beauty and goodness. And in everyday practice this happens to
be the same as loving your neighbour as yourself.
Here we must point out that the consecutive raising of the
level of consciousness is superimposed upon the previous levels,
rather than substituting them. This is true at least during the
life in the material body on an evolutionary sphere. Thus, for
example, in any human being we observe both the 1st and the
2nd levels of mind functioning in parallel. The notable excep-
tion is the category of midwayers (the so-called “demons” of the
Bible) — the beings whose mind is tuned to function by re-
sponding only to the vibrations of the two highest mind adjutants
(the 6th and the 7th). Upon repersonalisation on the mansion
worlds (so-called “resurrection from the dead” of the evolution-
ary religions) the lower levels of consciousness are discarded as
having served as a scaffolding which bridged you over to the
morontia level. During the last stages of life in the material
body (i.e. prior to the fusion with the Father’s spirit-fragment
indwelling every normal material mind), the lower levels become
more and more passive and at the moment of fusion (unless it is
8
postponed upon the individual’s petition concurred in by the Per-
sonalised Adjuster) the material body is extinguished, including
all its cells, tissues and organs, as well as both its brains which
served as the instrument of the material mind. Only the higher,
morontia, form of the mind continues to function and the soul
proceeds by free space transit to the first mansion world, where
it is endowed with the appropriate (i.e. morontia) form of the
body for self-expression and further growth.

Human

A material being living on our planet and who attained a more

or less stable functioning on the 3rd level of consciousness we
shall call Human, with the capital ‘H ’. The characteristic
qualities of a Human are:

1. Engaging in the active practice of the intuitive form of

cognition. The 1st mind adjutant — the spirit of intu-
ition — is also referred to as “the spirit of quick per-
ception”. Thus, going one octave higher to the earliest or
9
the first phase of morontia mind, we can label it as “the
phase of quick forming of concepts”, because the super-
concept relates to the concept in exactly the same way
as the concept relates to the percept (this is shown in
many books by P.D. Ouspensky and is confirmed by
my own personal experience). However, the hunger and
thirst for knowledge obtained through the “usual meth-
ods” is not extinguished. Nay, rather, they get stronger,
because the synthesis of knowledge happens to be at least
the material half of the very channel of transformation
which the embryo and the infant stages of morontia mind
need so much, in accordance with the process of raising
the mind from conceptual to the super-conceptual phase
described above. This desire for more knowledge should
not be confused with the now commonly prevailing nar-
row specialisation and fragmentation of knowledge which
only delays or even stops the progress of personal growth
instead of accelerating it.
2. Synthesis of knowledge from completely different fun-
10
damental domains, such as: natural sciences (physics,
astronomy, chemistry, biology etc.), mathematics, philos-
ophy, history, sociology and art (especially music and
literature). Initially this happens intuitively — a
child of healthy mind and sound genetic endowment early
exclaims: “I want to know everything!” Gradually, as
the morontia mind matures, even the material mind begins
to understand the need of growing Human for continuous
learning. Perhaps the words “learning” or “cognition”
are not ideal, because what is described here implies
striving for the highest ideals of truth, beauty and good-
ness and, therefore, the resulting power of knowledge can
only be applied to the loving service of your neighbour.
How utterly different this is from the selfish desire for
knowledge of a materialist which serves only the vainglory
and mastery of such a “learner” over his fellows!

3. Harmony of the inner and the outer worlds of a Human.

If a human can easily say (or even teach others) one
11
thing, and at the same time do something opposite (i.e.
be a hypocrite), a Human would not only be disgusted
at such a course of action, but would rather submit to
torture than follow it.

Human Speech and Music

When and if the number of Humans grows large, there will

appear the need for the more efficient form of communication,
i.e. more efficient than that used between humans and Humans.
This is the evolution of speech into super-speech. The old form of
speech is linked to the “3-dimensional consciousness” (2nd level
in the above scheme) and starts to seem inadequate and even
“dead” in some sense. And it is clear that it should be so, for
the information content inter-changed between Human and Human
would necessarily include not only the conceptual (i.e. easily
coded by means of word symbols) component, but also other and
higher “super-intuitive” components, for which there are no words
now and never can or shall be. Why not? Because a symbol
12
can then only serve for simultaneously denoting a super-intuition
and leading to new super-intuitions when it is deprived of a
static and fixed meaning.
Even this revelation, which you are now reading, has been
typeset not in a ordinary “print typeface”, but in a handwritten
one, to emphasize that you are here dealing not merely with the
world of external (to you) concepts, but with something higher
and inner, something both personal and living and also requiring
the positive and persistent effort of your own material mind to
unravel.
In the first rough approximation and only in the initial
stages, the super-conceptual phases of speech can be identified
with the higher Human emotions. Recall that music (and art
in general) is nothing other than a form of conveying the emo-
tional (or “structural” in the words of Schillinger) component
of information, in contradistinction to speech, which is suitable
only for the conceptual component. More than 100 years ago,
P.D. Ouspensky wrote in his book “Tertium Organum” that
music has its roots in the moral nature and even in its present
13
form can be conceived as the beginning of a new language, which
would express emotions just as words now express ideas.

Tomorrow
The evolution of the highest form of life on Earth from one level
of consciousness to the next one is always accompanied by “great
tribulations” and disappearance of those categories of living be-
ings which stood as the links in the same evolutionary chain, but
were unable to grow. This is true of both general biologic evolu-
tion (dinosaurs vs mammals), human evolution (growth-capable
descendants of Adam and Eve vs primitive Neanderthalers) and
the present mind-spirit evolution (humans vs Humans).
