CHAPTER V

CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

This chapter states the conclusion and the recommendation from this research for
future research to be better as described below.
A. Conclusions
According to the result of this research, the researcher finds out that there is no
correlation between students' intensity in watching English Tiktok videos and their
listening skills. The results of this study are described as follows:
1. Students' Intensity In Watching English Tiktok Videos
The data was collected through the questionnaire that the researcher shared to
the fourth semester students of English Education Department. The results of the
questionnaire using Likert scale showing that the total score of students’ intensity
is 2141 and the average score of students' habits is 71 out of 100. It is considered to
be a good intensity that indicates the students are interest and keen to watching
English videos in Tiktok.
2. Students' Listening Skills
The data was gathered from the document of Students’ Critical Listening final
score. The students’ listening skills considered good. The results of the data analysis
show that the total score is 2300 and the average score is 77 out of 100.
3. The Correlation between Students' Intensity in Watching English Tiktok
Videos and Their Listening Skills.
The calculation of correlation value of r is 0.036, showing there is a very low
correlation between variables. With the significance value of 0.118, it is higher that
the value of 5% or 0.05 means that the students’ intensity and students’ listening
skill were not significantly correlated each other. Another analysis is done by
checking the t-count. The t-count is lower than t-table (0.161 < 2.048) with the
degree of freedom 28. It means that the null hypothesis (H0) is accepted and the
alternative hypothesis (Ha) is rejected. So, there is no significant correlation
between students' intensity in watching English Tiktok videos (variable X) and the
students' listening skills (variable Y).

B. Suggestions
Based on the result of this research, there are some recommendations suggested
that will be helpful for institutions, teachers or lecturers, students, and other
researchers as described below.
1. For the students, Tiktok can be a tool to improve students listening skills.
The students should watch English videos `that have no subtitles. Students
can also listen to the audio or the voice without actually watching the video
so it can be more effective to practice their listening skills.
2. For the teachers or lecturers, Tiktok can be one of the listening media to
make students more interested, engaged, and motivated to listen to a native
speaker's voice and to learn how to use the appropriate expression to
communicate with others because a lot of students have Tiktok account and
they are often watching it. So it is helpful that Tiktok can be a learning
media.
3. For the future researcher, conduct a study with a different and broader
population and a larger sample. Another option is to investigate the factors
of why there is no correlation between the students’ intensity in watching
English Tiktok videos and their listening skills.
