How we can make a door hinge using (turning, milling, drilling, shaping,
grinding machines)

Steps to Make a Door Hinge

1. Material Preparation

 Select the Material: Choose a suitable metal like stainless steel or

brass for durability.

2. Turning

 Turning Machine: Use a lathe to shape the cylindrical parts of the

hinge, such as the pin. Secure the metal rod in the lathe and use
cutting tools to achieve the desired diameter and length.

3. Milling

 Milling Machine: Mill the flat parts of the hinge. Secure the metal
piece in the milling machine and use a milling cutter to create the flat
surfaces and any slots or recesses needed for the hinge leaves.

4. Drilling

 Drilling Machine: Drill holes for the screws and the hinge pin. Use a
drill press to ensure precision. Mark the positions of the holes on the
hinge leaves and drill them accordingly.

5. Shaping

 Shaping Machine: Shape the hinge leaves to the desired profile. Use
the shaping machine to cut and form the edges and any intricate
designs on the hinge leaves.

6. Grinding

 Grinding Machine: Grind the surfaces to smooth out any rough edges
and ensure a clean finish. Use a bench grinder or a surface grinder to
achieve a polished look.

7. Assembly

 Assemble the Hinge: Insert the pin into the knuckles of the hinge
leaves and ensure it fits snugly. Check the alignment and movement of
the hinge.
Detailed Process

1. Turning the Pin:

o Mount the metal rod on the lathe.

o Use a turning tool to reduce the diameter to the required size.

o Cut the rod to the desired length for the hinge pin.

2. Milling the Leaves:

o Secure the metal sheet on the milling machine table.

o Use an end mill to cut the hinge leaves to the required

dimensions.

o Mill any slots or recesses needed for the hinge design.

3. Drilling Holes:

o Mark the positions of the screw holes and the pin hole on the
hinge leaves.

o Use a drill press to drill the holes accurately.

4. Shaping the Leaves:

o Use the shaping machine to cut and form the edges of the hinge
leaves.

o Create any decorative profiles or designs as needed.

5. Grinding the Surfaces:

o Use a grinding machine to smooth out the edges and surfaces of

the hinge leaves.

o Ensure all parts are free of burrs and have a polished finish.

6. Assembling the Hinge:

o Align the knuckles of the hinge leaves and insert the pin.

o Check the movement and alignment of the hinge to ensure it

operates smoothly.
