Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)

FTIR is a powerful analytical technique used to identify organic, polymeric, and in some cases,
inorganic materials. It works by measuring the absorption or transmission of infrared light by a
sample.

How it Works:

The Infrared Spectrum:

The infrared spectrum is a plot of the intensity of the transmitted or reflected light versus the
frequency or wavelength of the infrared radiation. The peaks in the spectrum correspond to the
specific vibrational modes of the molecules in the sample. By analyzing the positions and shapes of
these peaks, chemists can identify functional groups and determine the molecular structure of the
sample.
