Section B has two parts; I and II. Answer one item from each part.
Answer four examination items in all.

SECTION: A (compulsory)
ITEM1: Map skills
For this item use the East Africa 1:50.000(Uganda) map extract of Lukaya series
YB2, Sheet 79/2 Edition3. U.S.D, the information in the text below and the support
materials in fig.1 provided to answer the tasks given.
(a)The government plans to lease part of Lake Victoria South of Northing 91 and
East of Easting 84 to a Chinese investor for a period of 25 years to carryout fish
farming .How much money will the investor pay if one square kilometer is leased
at a cost 4millions.
(b)A change in climatic patterns in the area has forced NEMA to evict people
especially those found East of Easting 75. NEMA attributes this to the activities
carried out in the area .Local people have come out to challenge NEMA saying
that they have been in the area for over 50 years .NEMA is insisting that the
activities carried out affect the natural environment which has caused such a
climatic change where rainfall has reduced and temperatures are increasing every
year according to their statistics 2000 - 2022.
Task:
Using evidence from the map extract and support materials provided, support
NEMA's decision.

ITEM2: Photography skills.
Study Fig2.
Mukodha Lawrence has lived on the banks of river Nile in Jinja for last 26 years as
prominent fisherman .Since 2020 the fish catch has been reducing drastically due
to deforestation and water pollution and this has forced him to resort to lumbering
and charcoal burning since the area has tropical rain forests that surround the
lake. Local council environmental Authority has tried to stop him but has failed
because other people like him claim that their standard of living have risen ever
since they shifted from fishing to lumbering.
Support material
a) Draw a landscape sketch of the area and on it mark and name different features.
b) Prepare a speech of about 500 words which you will present in the council
meeting to stop Kayongo and his group.

SECTION: B attempt two items
Part 1:(Attempt one item)
Item 3
The residents of Bugembe village in Nabiyonyi sub county in Mbale district on the
foothill of Mountain Elgon have occasionally seen steam jets(raising air) from the
mountain and some have attached this sign on demonic powers.
The depression on the mountain has also created another discussion; some
attribute it to the heavy rainfall received on top of mountain. One the government
officials from the ministry of disaster preparedness warned the local people on the
effects of living in such area with such signs and has advised the them to vacate
such areas but they have refused to abide with the warning claiming that
government wants to grab their fertile land.

Item 4
Study the text and fig.3 provided and use them to answer this item.
Zhong Liu is a prominent investor based in China. He wants to invest his capital
in Africa especially in crop farming .However he has little knowledge about the
geography of Africa.
Task:
Write a report of about 500 words advising Zhong where he can start his
enterprise.

PART II
Answer one item from this part.
Item 5
The population of Africa at large is steadily increasing for example Africa
registered about 2.3% population increase rate in 2023. This situation is expected
to even worsen in the 1next coming decades.
The 2020 Africa summit that sat in AdisAbaba (Ethiopia) called upon Africa
countries to devise means of controlling such a trend so as to to control the likely
forthcoming effects.
The table below shows Africa's population trend between 1975-2025(projected)

a) Draw a suitable graph to show the information contained in the table.
b) Using the information provided in the next and table, write an article to be
published in Africa Journal to deal with the, concerns of summit that sat in

Uganda has continued to trade with other countries ever since she gained her
independence. Uganda imports highly than what she exports and this has posed a
lot of challenges towards economic development.

Despite the efforts Uganda government has put in place to change the situation,
the situation has failed to change and is expected to even worsen in the next ten
years to come.
