CLASS: 4ST

Title: HEAT

Aim: To observe the rate of conduction in relation to the increase in length of a metal.

Apparatus and materials: metal wire of lengths 5cm, 10cm and 15 cm, candle, candle wax and stop watch

Diagram:

Instructions :

1. Obtain metal wire of same diameter and cut to lengths 5cm, 10cm, and 15cm.

2. Cut small pieces of candle wax and attach it to one end of the wire of each.

3. Light the candle and place the opposite end of the 10cm wire in the direct flame.

4. Using the stop watch, take the time for the wax to fall of the end of the wire.

5. Repeat for the other two wires to obtain their timings.

6. Present data obtained in a table and sketch a graph to show the relationship between length and time.
