Title: The Spirit of Christmas

Characters:
1. Jake (explains the reason for Christmas)
2. Sarah
3. Emma
4. [ ] text will be read by the narrator

(Scene: A cozy living room with a Christmas tree adorned with lights and ornaments.
The three children, Sarah, Jake, and Emma, are sitting on the floor, surrounded by
wrapped presents. The conversation begins.)

Scene 1: The Christmas Conversation

EMMA: (excitedly) I love Christmas! It really is my favourite time of the year!

SARAH: (grinning) I know right, we get presents, sing festive songs, and enjoy a nice
dinner

JAKE: (thoughtfully) Yeah, but you guys know there’s more to it than that right?

SARAH: (confused) like Santa Claus?

JAKE: No silly, like the meaning behind Christmas.

SARAH: I think it's about sharing, giving, and spending time with loved ones. But that
makes me wonder why we started celebrating Christmas.

JAKE: That’s Right Sarah. And as to why we started celebrating Christmas.. well, it’s
a long story I think it’s easier if I show you.
[Jake decides to take his siblings to see the crib that their parents set up to explain
how the first Christmas came to be]
Scene 2: The Nativity Scene

[As they discuss the meaning of Christmas, the children playing Mary, Joseph,
Shepherds, Angels and the Wise Men quietly appear on the side of the stage, taking
their positions as the kids speak.]

SARAH: (noticing the nativity scene) Hey Jake, what’s that?

(The children turn and see the nativity scene.)

JAKE: (whispering) That's a nativity scene. Aka, the story of the first Christmas.

EMMA: (curious) First Christmas? What happened?

(As Jake explains, Mary, Joseph, Shepherd, and Wise Man come to life and silently
act out their parts.)

Scene-2 (Nativity Scene involving Mary, Joseph, angels, shepherds, wisemen)

JAKE: It's the story of baby Jesus being born in a manger.

[Mary and Joseph were travelling back to their hometown Bethlehem when Mary was
pregnant. But when they arrived there were no rooms available. Finally, they were
allowed to stay in a manger and Jesus was born there.]

Joseph: Mary rest here, it has been a very long journey and while we couldn’t get a
room, we can stay at this manger.

[while they were staying at the manger, the time had come for Mary to give birth]

Mary: Blessed am I above all woman, for God has given me such an honour.
[As Jesus was born, there were shepherds in the same country abiding in the
field, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then, suddenly, a multitude of
angels appeared. Telling the shepherds that a Saviour has been born in the town of
David.]

Angel 1: For unto you this day, in the city of David, a Savior is born!

Angel 2: And this will be a sign for you; Ye shall find the baby wrapped in
swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

Angels together: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will
toward men.

Shepherd 1: Let us now go even unto Bethlehem and see this thing which is
come to pass.

Shepherd 2: Yes let as at once, to witness what the Lord had made known
to us.

[All the while, three wise men had also heard of a saviour being born soon and
prepared gifts to present to him. Then, they saw a bright star appear in the sky. They
followed it in hopes of the finding the baby boy.]

King 1: Where is he that is born King of the Jews?

King 2: For we have seen his star in the east and are seeking to find him.

King 3: We will bring him these valuable gifts of gold, frankincense, and
myrrh to show our respect and love.

This is why we celebrate Christmas. 2000 years ago, God gave us the greatest gift
of all, his son. That is why we give gifts and are festive during this season, to show
the same kindness that God has shown us to everyone around us.
Scene 3: The True Spirit of Christmas

SARAH: (inspired) So, Christmas isn't just about presents and Santa. It's about love,
miracles, and the joy of giving.

EMMA: (reflecting) Yeah, it's like these characters show us that the best gifts aren't
wrapped in paper. They're the ones that come from the heart.

JAKE: (smiling) Exactly. Christmas is a time to appreciate the people we have and
to share kindness with everyone around us.

Closing: Embracing the Spirit of Christmas

[The children sit together, realizing the deeper meaning of Christmas. The room fills
with warmth and the soft glow of the Christmas lights.]

EMMA: (gratefully) I'm so glad we talked about this. It makes Christmas feel even
more special.

SARAH: (nodding) And it reminds us to be kind and caring, just like the characters in
the nativity scene.

JAKE: (happily) Let's spread the joy and love this Christmas with everyone we know,
our family, our friends, and our community!

[They exchange smiles, and the lights dim as they continue to enjoy the festive
atmosphere.]

Concluding message:
After this heartwarming play by the little ones and angels of our community. I think
we can all learn from them. Embracing the true spirit of Christmas means sharing
smiles, loving our neighbours, and being kind to one another. Hence during this
festive season, I hope we can transform our community into a haven of warmth and
kindness, where we share our joys and help each other whenever we can and
continue to live in harmonious peace. Thankyou all once again, and wishing you and
your families a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
