Impacts of Materials Management in the Organizations' Productivity

Section A: Summary

Part 1: Overview

The project focused on developing, implementing, and conducting Automated Storage

and Retrieval Systems (ASRS) tests. The use of the above techniques was mainly useful in

determining the impacts on New Flyer USA. Therefore, the problems encountered during the

assessment of material management on the organization's productivity were the great drivers to

the establishment of the project. Additionally, the project manager received the documents and

the required softwares from the vendor by the 4th April 2021. Moreover, the software engineers

were given the software and documentation and were responsible for developing, implementing,

and testing the Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS) effect on New Flyer USA's

productivity.

Part 2: Business strategy alignment

In terms of products or service distribution, production materials are the essential elements in the

enterprise. Since these products are used in all activities, they must be carefully handled to

ensure their quality and effectiveness. To better handle materials, businesses have switched to

technology. This information is useful in determining where, how, and by whom the products

should be treated and the number of returns they produce. It is simple to determine who is

responsible for any positive effect in the company thanks to technology.

Part 3: Project Charter

The main goal of this project was to figure out how material management affects the

competitiveness of the company. Other significant goals were met during this project, which is

expected to be completed in less than a year. Additionally, the project also played a critical role
3

in determining how the company can better manage its materials and increase efficiency and

determine how a staffing shortage can impact successful inventory management.

Section B: Scope, WBS, Schedule, and Budget

Part 1: Project Scope

Material management ensures the uniform contribution of materials in the organization's

operations and leads to the organization's long-term sustainability. It becomes simple to handle

materials when analytical and holistic facilities and all the personalities involved work together.

The majority of businesses entrust their materials and services to mediocre people. It is assumed

that material management is expected to boost efficiency in the company.

Part 2: WBS and Schedule

It could take up to a year to successfully execute this project in the company. The company is

scheduled periodically to ensure that one task is done on time. During the final quarter, the

company assessed whether the goals had been met and whether any adjustments were to be made

before the project is completed.

4

Part 3: Project Budget

The cost of this project was determined by the number of workers who took part in the training.

However, for efficient material control and transparency, the project was established to keep

continuous records on materials.

Section C: Communications, Risks, and Quality

Part 1: Communications

In every company, effective communication is critical. It allows messages to be passed between

various branches of the company as well as between different shareholders. It aids in achieving

objectives because the collective effort of people who recognize their roles and the roles of

others enables people to improve business performance. With proper communication between

the different parties, work was done more efficiently. The main channel that was used in verbal

communication and written communication. The meetings were in the form of the shareholders

and their role in the company. The meetings were held either in the boardroom or the staffroom.

Additionally, written communication was also used through the use of internal memos, memos,

and emails.

Some of the negative risks that the project might face include Cost Risk, governance risk,

external risks such as labor strikes, strategic risk, performance risk, legal risk, and market risk.

During labor strikes, I was aware of the problems raised by the workers, and I was able to solve

them. Second, in the performance risk, I investigated all flaws, such as technology, to ensure that

the project runs smoothly. Finally, in governance risk, I took time to seek out better officials

dedicated to the project's success.

Part 3: Quality Management

The quality management ensured that the project was realistic and was conducted within the

timeline. Secondly, quality management ensured that responsibilities were shared with every

individual taking part in the project. Thirdly, quality management ensured the implementation

took place when every individual was ready. Lastly, I will ensure my team knows what is

happening.

Section D: Leadership, Sociocultural Factors, and Lessons Learned

Part 1: Leadership and Management

Democratic leadership style will be of great essence in the project. The democratic leader will

mainly focus on ensuring that the leader can share the responsibilities and incorporate the ideas

of all the people in the process of decision making (Fiaz, Su & Saqib, 2017). Democratic

leadership style mainly focuses on empowering all the participants (Al Khajeh, 2018)

Part 2: Sociocultural Factors

The existing diversity in our cultures plays a critical role in the process of enhancing innovations

and creativity. Diversity plays a critical role in the process of improving perceptions and world

interpretation of issues. In the project, diversity mainly fostered creativity and created a rise in

the levels of innovation. On the other hand, diversity may act as an avenue where people from
12

low societies feel intimated. The cases of intimidation mainly suppress and cause rising

perceptions that the ideas they raise are not useful and won’t be considered.

Part 3: Lessons Learned

Time management plays a critical role in ensuring that the project is carried out on time and all

the factors are considered. During the project, I was able to realize the challenge of being

unfamiliar with the project caused a delay in the process of executing all the activities. Towards

ensuring that there is time management, I will incorporate a pilot study in the future. The study

will mainly help in testing the effectiveness of the project and all the procedures established.

Additionally, in the leadership section I realized how democracy is very essential in ensuring the

success of the organization. In the event that I am able to take part in a similar project, I will

exercise democratic leadership style.
