A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ORAL COMMUNICATION
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
● Distinguish the five functions of communication
● Use the functions of communication to determine each statement
● Reflect on the importance of functions in communication
II. SUBJECT MATTER

D. Skills: Listening, speaking, writing and grammar awareness
III. PROCEDURE

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITY

1. Prayer

The teacher will call someone to lead the prayer


One student from the class will lead the prayer.

2. Greetings
Good morning/afternoon, Class!
Good morning/afternoon, Ma’am!

3. Classroom Management
Before we start, kindly freshen up yourselves.
Pick up the trash and kindly arrange your seats. The students will prepare themselves.

4. Checking of Attendance.
Class secretary, do we have absentees for
today? The class secretary will report the attendance.

B. LESSON PROPER

1. Review of Past Lesson

Before we proceed to our lesson, Let's have a


short review regarding to your previous
discussion. Who would like to remind us?

The student will raise their hand and answer.


Last discussion, we talked about the three
models of communication. Wherein when we
say models it means the representation of
process. We have Shannon-Weaver Model,
Transaction Model and Schramm Model.
The first model is one-way process, the
second is two-way process and the last one is
cyclical process.

Good job class! It seems that you have listened


very well. Now, we will proceed to our new
lesson.

2. Motivation

The game is called “4 pics 1 word”. The


teacher will present pictures and the student's
aim is to work out what the word is, from a set
of letters given below the pictures. This has
connection to the topic.

FUNCTIONS OF COMMUNICATION

Basically, there are five functions of


communication. These are control, social
interaction, motivation, emotional
expression, and information dissemination.

• Control- Communication allows
individuals to control others.
Control- functions to control EXAMPLES:
one’s behavior Doctors’ Prescription
“Take your medicine 3 times a day.”
Parents’ Instruction to their child
“Wash the dishes now, or else I won’t
allow you to go to the party later.”
Friends giving advice on what to do
• Social Interaction- Communication “Move on. He doesn’t love you
