Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa
(BADEA)

Within the framework BADEA’s financing activities, the Board


of Directors, at its session held on 20-22 June 2018, approved
loans and technical assistance for some African countries.

The total amount of funding approved was US $ 247.46


million, of which US $ 85 million was allocated to finance five
public sector projects, US $ 55 million to finance four credit
loans under the private sector program and US $ 105 million
To finance two operations of Arab exports and $ 2.46 million
to finance nine technical assistance proposals.

Project Description - The project is located in the south-west of the country
and Components and is a part of the national road No. 3, which runs
from the capital Bujumbura to the southern border with
Tanzania. The route passes through the banks of
Tanganyika Lake on one side and the adjacent plateaus
on the other, Residential communities and agricultural
areas.
- The proposed project includes the rehabilitation and
expansion of a part of National Road No. 3 linking
Rumonge-Nyanza Lac with the following main
components:
Civil engineering works and their ancillaries for the
rehabilitation and extension of the road length of
52 km and increase the width from 6 to 7 meters
and shoulders width of each 1.50 meters outside
the residential communities and 2.00 meters
inside, the reconstruction of 9 bridges, the
creation of 6 kilometers of urban roads in the
city, the drilling and processing of six drinking
water wells in the city of Nyanzalak, the creation
of three existing markets, and the supply of a
mobile station to monitor the axle load of heavy
duty trucks.
Consultancy services: it includes review of detailed
designs, preparation of civil tender documents,
supervision of implementation, and preparation
of the project completion report.
PIU Support: It includes the expenses of running
the unit, providing two four-wheel drive vehicles,
office equipment, two computers and their
accessories, and the services of an expert in the
management and design of road projects.
Land Acquisition:
Organization of project start-up workshops,
midterm evaluation and preparation of the
project completion report.
Annual audit of the project accounts.

Project objectives The proposed project is part of the joint program of the
East African and Great Lakes Region "Burundi - Rwanda -
Tanzania - Democratic Republic of Congo", to develop
the regional road (Rwanda - Burundi - Tanzania - Congo
Democratic). The project aims to facilitate the
movement of goods and passengers to the southern
region of Burundi, reduce the cost of transport, remove
the isolation of villages along the road and contribute to
economic and social development in the region,
facilitate to the access of agricultural and fish products
known to the project area to transfer centers and
common markets with neighboring countries, developing
tourism and fishing at Lake Tanganyika, and contributing
to poverty alleviation. The project also aims to
contribute to the development of regional cooperation
and open access to the sea for both Burundi and
Rwanda, to intensify trade between neighboring
countries and to help integrate their economies.
Procurement of  Civil works will be through an open international
Goods and Services bidding according to the procedures of the financiers.
 The weight control station will be supplied by
accredited international suppliers.
 The Arab expert will be selected according to the
procedures of BADEA and in coordination with the
government.
 Project start-up workshops, midterm evaluation and
preparation of a project completion report will be
organized by local agencies or specialized institutions.
 Audit project accounts will be through accredited local
audit offices.

Project Description The project includes the provision of irrigation facilities
and Components for about 96 small holdings in three areas (24 in the
Eastern Province and Carmoga area, 36 in the Western
and Central Lower Regions and 36 in the Northern and
Central Upper Regions) with an average area of 4
hectares per possession, Institutional farmers. The
project includes the following components:
 Civil works and their ancillaries. These include the
provision of basic irrigation sources, including the
construction of earthmoving reservoirs to collect
irrigation water through 9 lakes, 23 seasonal rivers,
41 slums and rehabilitation of 13 existing reservoirs,
the processing of about 10 wells and springs, Pump
and overhead tank with solar panels as energy
source.
 Construction of field irrigation networks and support
for farmers: for 96 acquisitions including the supply
and installation of 7 axial irrigation systems and
about 89 drip irrigation systems and fertilizer tanks.
As well as providing agricultural inputs such as
seeds, fertilizers and chemicals for one year.
 Consultancy services: to review the detailed designs
of the basic civil engineering works and supervise the
implementation of the project and preparation of the
project completion report.
 Institutional support: includes consultancy services
for the establishment of sustainable project
management systems through the establishment of
farmer-based management organizations (FBMO)
and water user associations (WUA) with the task of
operating and maintaining facilities, awareness and
guidance for farmers on modern irrigation systems
management methods and explaining the benefits of
the project.
Project objectives The proposed project aims to raise economic growth,
reduce poverty rates and improve management of
natural resources and agribusiness development by:
increasing crop productivity, food production and
converting subsistence agriculture into commercial
cultivation for export promotion, increasing farm
incomes, improving the quality of life of subsistence
farmers, improving household food security, and
improving and enhancing conditions, increasing
employment opportunities, and improvement of the
socio-economic conditions of the population.

Project Description The road starts from Mudogashi to the north-east
and Components and follows the route of the existing road consisting
of a gravel / sandy road about 6-8 meters wide,
located within a sandy road (20-50 m width).
The project has the following main components:
 Civil works and their ancillaries: to construct a
first-class asphalt road with a length of about
157 km and a width of 7.0 meters with
shoulders of each width of 2.0 meters. These
include improvements to the longitudinal and
transverse road sections, the construction of
asphalt layers, longitudinal and transverse
waterways, bridges, and road safety works.
 Consultancy services: review the detailed
engineering studies, finalize construction
tender documents, assist the executing agency
in issuing the tender, evaluating the bids and
awarding contracts, supervising the execution
of the works and preparing the project
completion report.
 Organizing the project launch workshop.
 Annual audit of the project account.
Project objectives The proposed project aims at contributing to the
improvement of the road network in the
northeastern region of Kenya by providing a highly
efficient road which will contribute to linking the
region to all regions of the country and to the border
area of neighboring countries such as Ethiopia and
Somalia. It also aims to improve the country's road
network, facilitate the movement of goods and
passengers, and reduce the cost and time of
mobility, thus contributing to the country's economic
and social development strategy (Kenya's outlook for
2030) to reduce poverty.

The project is located in the coastal town of Angoch in
and Components the northern province of Nampula, which is about
1,800 km north of Maputo.
The project has the following main components:
 Civil engineering works, including construction of
a 160-meter-long berth with a width of 30 meters
and a water depth of 4.5 meters with water, fuel
and electricity connections, a boat repair ramp,
an ice plant, a cooling and freezing unit, fish
processing, a management building and a
maintenance workshop,
 Provision of crane equipment including two
mobile cranes 50 tons, 10 tons crane, two forklifts
(one electric and the other with diesel) and two
tractors with container carriers 40 tons each.
 Consultancy services, including: preparation of
detailed designs and tender documents, assisting
the executing agency in issuing tenders,
evaluating bids, awarding contracts, supervising
the execution of works and preparing the project
completion report.
 Support the project implementation unit.
 Organizing the project launch workshop.
 Auditing project accounts.
Project objectives The proposed project is a part of the State strategy to
develop the fishing sector through the operation of a
fishing port to receive traditional and industrial fishing
boats in the project area, improve the efficiency of fish
handling and processing according to international
standards, increase the return from fish stocks,
improve balance of payments balance, and create new
jobs.

Project Description The project is located in the Upper Guinea and Central
and Components Guinea regions and covers 15 out of 33 provinces covered
by the country.
The proposed part financed by BADEA covers 6 provinces
and includes the following components:
 Civil engineering works, including:
Strengthening family farming to adapt to climate
change by reclaiming 1700 hectares of land, including
the construction of small dams, the establishment of
an irrigation water distribution network, agricultural
drainage, and the establishment of protective barriers
to agricultural lands from floods.
 Support for market access, including the construction
and processing of two semi-large markets (Demi-gros)
with an area of 5-10 hectares, the establishment and
processing of 17 local markets ranging from 1 to 3
hectares, the construction of gravel roads with a total
length of 154 km and 6 meters width, And the
reconstruction of about 20 km of national gravel roads
with 8 meters width.
 Consultancy services, including the preparation of
social studies for the reclamation of agricultural land,
the preparation of detailed designs, tender documents
for agricultural land reclamation facilities, construction
of markets and gravel roads, and follow-up work.

Project objectives The proposed project is generally aimed at contributing to


food security and improving the living conditions of the
population of the project areas. In particular, it aims to
contribute to improving agricultural production, improving
farmers' incomes and increasing the number of households
that rely on modern technologies in agricultural production
to cope with climate change and raise the quantities of
crops to be marketed.
