The UK
What is the difference between Great Britain, England and the United Kingdom?
England is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. Great Britain consists of
England, Scotland and Wales. The United Kingdom is a country that includes
England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Its official name is the United
Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
How do you think British people would describe their country?
I think that British people would describe their country as a place with beautiful
sightsings, fascinating royal history, world-famous arts and literature, diverse
cities, famous poets, novelists and playwrights. They are proud of the fact that
many popular sports were invented in England and their country has one of the
most unique cuisine in the world. Also, British people would tell about famous
places in their country. For example: Buckingham Palace, Stonehedge, Big Ben
and a lot of beautiful cities, museums and buildings all over the country.
What do you know about British food and weather?
British food has traditionally been based on beef, lamb, pork, chicken and fish and
generally served with potatoes and one other vegetable. British dishes include full
breakfast, roast dinner, fish and chips. Traditional desserts are trifle, scones, apple
pie, sticky toffee pudding and Victoria sponge cake. British weather can be
described as cool, wet winters and warm, wet summers. It rarely features the
extremes of heat or cold, drought or wind that are common in other climates. The
weather conditions are also very changeable. Not all parts of the UK have the same
climate. London, in the south-east of the Great Britain, is a region characterised by
a warm and dry climate in the summer and a cold and dry climate in the winter.
What would you like to do and see in the UK on a three-week holiday?
During my three-week holiday in the UK I would like to visit London and go
sightsing there. First of all I would go to look at Big Ben and discover some
beautiful parks. Secondly, I would watch a performance in Shakespeare’s
Globe and just explore the city. Moreover, I think that St. Paul Cathedral
and Westminster Abby are also great places to visit. After London I would
visit Scotland and it’s beautiful countryside. Then I would go visit other
beautiful sities of England and their famous landmarks. The United
Kingdom has a lot of unique places to visit, so I would probably take a tour
to see all of them. By the way, as a Harry Potter fan I would visit places
where it was filmed.
Do you think Britain has too much political power in the world?
Great Britain is one of the most powerful countries in the world. According to Brand
Finance's 2024 Global Soft Power Index, the UK has retained second place behind the
US and has increased its score since 2023. Also, it has the world's sixth-largest
economy. England used to be a colonizator centuries ago and had a lot of power. Now it
a modern country with well developed politics and relationships with other countries.
Would you like to live in Great Britain?
Personally, I would like to live in Britain because it is really beautiful country with
deep history, pleasant people and gorgeous architecture. There are so many
museums, parks, cafes, shop, theaters and so on. Great Britain is such a good place
for all people. It combines both: old historical buildings and culture and modern
life. United Kingdom provides their people with good living conditions, so
everyone will feel there like at home.
2. Computers
Describe your computer at home/work.
My computer at home is a comfortable in using device with a lot of apps for
education and entertainment. It’s modern and has a lot of useful features. My
computer really helps me in studying and just make4s my life easier.
What do you usually use a computer for?
Usually I use my computer for studying, making presentations and finding
information. Also, it is very useful for watching films and videos. Computer makes
it easier for me to learn something new and do my homework.
Do you like computers? Why/why not?
Computers have both positive and negative effects on our life. But I like my
computer because it helps me to study, communicate with friends and it also
entertains me. Despite the fact that gadgets are very useful they can also be
dangerous for us, so we should use them wisely.
What was the first computer you ever had like?
My first computer was less modern than my current one and didn’t have so many
apps, but it still helped me in my education. I usually used it for playing games and
studying.
What do you think will be the future of computers?
I don’t think that I can exactly predict the future of technology but in my opinion
computers will be more modern and will have more useful features. Maybe they
will be able to do some kinds of work by themselves and help people to do their
tasks.
3.Enviroment
What should we do to increase the awareness about environmental pollution?
If we want to make people aware about environmental pollution we should tell this
information to our friends and family, share it on social media and encourage people to
take action. By engaging our community in the conversation, we are promoting
environmental awareness.
Do you have any ideas on how to minimize the use of plastic bags and Styrofoam
boxes?
To minimize the use of plastic bags and Styrofoam boxes we should:
Reduce your use of disposable shopping bags by using a reusable bag
or container when shopping.
Reuse old plastic bags for multiple shopping trips.
Re-purpose plastic bags as trash liners or pet waste bags.
Refuse a bag for easy-to-carry purchases.
Buy products in bulk.
Does your local government make it easy or hard for citizens to recycle?
As far as I know, there is a recycling center in our town. Also, in the house where I live3
we have boxes for plastic bags and bottles and for paper. These boxes are delivering
to the recycling center and money that we have from that waste are spent for the yard
needs. That’s why I think that our local government makes it easier to recycle.
What happens when we remove forests?
Forests have a big influence on rainfall patterns, water and soil quality and
flood prevention too. Millions of people rely directly on forests as their home
or for making a living.
But the risks from deforestation go even wider. Trees absorb and store
carbon dioxide. If forests are cleared, or even disturbed, they release carbon
dioxide and other greenhouse gases.
Forest loss and damage is the cause of around 10% of global warming.
There’s simply no way we can fight the climate crisis if we don’t stop
deforestation.
What is happening to forests in the world?
Forest in the whole world are cutting down due to people’s actions.
Since 1990, the world has lost more than 420 million hectares or
about a billion acres of forest.
What can we do to protect forests?
To protect forests we can:
Cut down on how many paper and wood products we use. ...
Eat less beef. ...
Recycle as much of our paper as possible. ...
Opt for digital versions of paper printouts. ...
Switch to reusable bags instead of plastic or paper ones. ...
Reduce our carbon footprint by driving less. ...
Plant Trees.
Why should we recycle?
Recycling provides many benefits to our environment. By recycling our materials, we
create a healthier planet for ourselves and future generations. Recycling reduces the
need to extract resources such as timber, water, and minerals for new products.
If you could choose one alternative energy source to develop which one would
you choose? Why?
If I could choose one alternative energy source to develop I would choose solar
power.
Solar energy is the most abundant source of renewable energy in
the world. It also produces no pollution and is completely
sustainable.
There are so many reasons why people would choose to install solar
panels in their homes. Solar radiation is unlimited.
They can help lower your energy costs, reduce carbon emissions,
and contribute to the fight against climate change, but more
importantly, they’re a great investment.
What can you do to help prevent pollution?
To prevent pollution need to
1. Go on foot instead of taking a bus
2. Don't burn my garbage. ...
3. Plant and care for trees. ...
4. Switch to electric or hand-powered lawn equipment. ...
5. Use less energy.
What can you do to make this world a better place?
To make this world a better place we shold take care of our planet and nature, protect
animals, help those who need our help, volunteer, be kind and patient to others. And
treat other people the way you would want to be treated.
Which is more important, increasing people’s standard of living, or protecting the
environment?
I think that we should combine both increasing people’s standard of living
and protecting the environment. But we should do it without harming our planet.
Progress is important but nothing will substitute good climate.
Inventions
What are the best and the most useful inventions of the mankind in the 20th and 21st
centuries?
There so many great inventions discovered in the 20th and 21th century, but I think that
Internet.
Television. ...
Antibiotics. ...
The Submarine. ...
Rocketry. ...
Automobile. ...
Airplane. Are the most useful ones
What famous inventors do you know? What were their inventions? Do you know
anything about the inventions of Leonardo da Vinci?
I know a lot of famous inventors and here are some of them.
Archimedes (Archimedes screw, 3rd century BC)
Cornelis van Drebbel (submarine, 1620)
Blaise Pascal (adding machine, 1642–44)
Evangelista Torricelli (barometer, 1643)
Isaac Newton (reflecting telescope, 1668)
Anthony van Leeuwenhoek (single-lens microscope, about 1670)

bifocals, 1784)
Benjamin Banneker (wooden clock, 1753)
George M. Pullman (Pullman railroad sleeping car, 1865)
Alfred Nobel (dynamite, 1867)
Margaret Knight (machine to produce square-bottomed paper bags, 1868)
Christopher Latham Sholes (typewriter, 1868)
George Westinghouse (air brake for trains, 1869)
Elijah McCoy (lubrication device for railroad cars, 1872)
Alexander Graham Bell (telephone, 1876)
Thomas Edison (phonograph, 1877; electric lightbulb, about 1879)
Samuel P. Langley (instrument for measuring heat from Sun, 1878; early
aircraft, 1896)
Granville Woods (electrical systems for railways, 1880s–90s)
Nikola Tesla (alternating-current electric motor, 1880–88; Tesla coil, 1891)
Lewis Latimer (carbon-filament lightbulb, 1881)
Karl Benz (automobile with an internal-combustion engine, 1885)
Emil Berliner (phonograph record disc, 1887)
George Eastman (Kodak camera, 1888)
James Naismith (basketball, 1891)
Rudolf Diesel (diesel engine, 1892)
Guglielmo Marconi (wireless telegraph, 1896)
George Washington Carver (products from peanuts, sweet potatoes, and
soybeans, 1890s–1940s)
As an engineer, Leonardo Da Vinci invented the parachute, the
helicopter, an armored fighting vehicle, the use of concentrated
solar power, the car and a gun, a rudimentary theory of plate
tectonics and the double hull.
What would you invent if your a scientist?
If I would get a chance to make an invention, I would try to create a device for household. People like
everything that makes their life easier that’s why my invention would come them in handy. It may
seem that we have already created everything but it’s not true. Probably, I would find something that
we usually have struggles with and I would help to reduce that problem.
Do you believe that one day people will live on the moon and on other planets? Why
isn’t it possible
today?
None of the planets in our solar system hosts a climate akin to our earth. The most
basic thing we would need is a gravitational field nearly the same as that of the
earth. None of the planets have a gravitational field similar to our earth. But due to
the development of technology I think that people could create some special
conditionals for themselves to live on other planets. A lot of innovation in rockets,
space stations, nuclear energy, anti matter and dark energy. Ilon Mask wants to
create a life on Mars. Who knows maybe he will do it.
What do you think is the worst invention of the mankind?
I believe that a lot of people would support my opinion about the worst invention ever. Destructive
and lethal weapon, nuclear bomb. No one person can be credited with producing the world's first atomic
bomb but two men had outsize achievements in that effort: physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and Army
Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves. I don’t understand why people create such dangerous thing that can destroy them.
The nuclear bomb is the reason of fear for many people and the way of manipulation between countries.
How did the invention of television change people's life? Do you think it is a useful invention?
What is the role of television in your life? How often do you watch it?
Television has revolutionized communication and knowledge
sharing. TV provides immediate information about current
ivents, from live sports to breaking news. It helps people from
different countries to communicate and understand each
other.
Before TV, newspapers and radio were the only news
sources. These sources provided information, but they
couldn't show events graphically or in real-time.
Television makes education more accessible. Educational TV
shows are interesting and easy to comprehend for all ages
and cover anything from basic reading and math's to
sophisticated science and technology. That’s why it is a very
useful invention that entertains and educates people.
Personally, I use TV only when important events are
translated there or I want to watch something interesting.
But, of course, TV should not be the only way for us to have
fun. There are so many resourses to do it another way , so we
don’t need to concentrate on TV too much.
Can you name some inventions are you looking forward to?
I hope that in the future people will invent some medicine to heal
strong and lethal deseases , so everyone will have a chance to
live. Discovering new technologies is also important, but helping
people should be a priority.
What do you know about cloning?
Cloning is the processes of creating an exact genetic replica of another
cell, tissue or organism. The copied material, which has the same
genetic makeup as the original, is referred to as a clone.
